Beware in Long Beach

by Jack Patterson Monday, Apr. 19, 2004 at 7:26 PM

Ask a question at City Hall and you may wind up in Guantanimo, especially if you have a dark complexion.

City employees at Long Beach City Hall are under standing orders to get the names of "suspicious looking" (read look like Arabs) people who ask any questions about any large building or other structure in Long Beach. The names are to be turned into the Long Beach Police Department (who will probably forward them to the FBI) and the person will then be "investigated." I've been told by more than one source that the same policy applies at the Long Beach library. Be careful, don't tell any city employee anything they don't have a right to know, especially if you don't look like someone out of a 1959 episode of the Donna Reed Show or Father Knows Best. Even asking about what floor of the World Trade Center Building houses the Tourist and Visitors Bureau could conceivably get you into trouble if you fit a certain profile and leave your name.

That's excellent! It's good to see one of our local governments taking the threat of terrorism seriously. Kudos to Long Beach.

by john Monday, Apr. 19, 2004 at 8:34 PM

you must be kidding. in a post 9-11 world wouldnt you want the people of long beach to be more aware of people asking questions. I have to believe that if someone asks where a certain department is they are not going to go into some FBI file.

Besides, do you have any solid information that anyone has been investigated by either the Long Beach police or the FBI?

If the cities dont do enough they are wrong. If they are careful they are wrong. Well since they are going to be wrong they might as well error on the side of caution.

Right, moron - no harm is done if the cops or the FBI come and question your employer, landlord, or head of the university department where you are studying about your possible ties to terrorist groups. All because you asked what the tallest building in Long Beach is to help out your grade school child with a class assignment. Why don't you go and take a flying leap off the Long Beach World Trade Center Building?

Don't worry people. These measures don't have much to do with terrorism. They are there to give the frightened, TOX-watching, SUV-driving right-wingers a false sense of security. In order to secure their vote in the upcoming election, what really counts is:

a) keep them frightened at all times

b) show them that Daddy Government is "protecting" them with very visible means, never mind if these means are efficient or appropriate.

c) demonize any person/group not abiding to their fearmongering, just in case some of the sheep may use the last spark of critical thinking they have left. Call them unpatriotic, against us, etc..

Frankly, if you're serious in this kind of "urban renewal" business, asking lots of questions while looking middleastern is the last thing you would do these days.

The terrorists know it and so does the Long Beach City Council.

No, "false security" was clitton's job for 8 years. as a reward for the antics of his lowness, don't expect to EVER see a democrap in the White House EVER again, unless he's the janitor.

A Public Service For All The Voters

by Libertarian Thursday, Apr. 22, 2004 at 10:29 AM

What with the elections coming up, as a public service we want to help you know how you should vote. We should all decide whether we are Democrat, Republican, or Libertarian at heart; once you know that, you'll know who to vote for.

So, how do you tell whether you are a democrat, a republican, or a libertarian? We pose a problem and then list 3 possible scenarios for you to choose from. The one you choose will help you know which party you truly belong to and, therefore, for whom you should vote.

Let's say you're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children. Suddenly, a dangerous looking man with a huge knife comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, raises the knife, and charges. You are carrying a Glock .40, and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family. What do you do?

------

Scenario Number 1:

Well, that's not enough information to answer the question!

Does the man look poor or oppressed?

Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack?

Could we run away?

What does my wife think?

What about the kids?

Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand?

What does the law say about this situation?

Does the Glock have appropriate safety built into it?

Would he mind waiting for me to take the safety lock off the gun if I decide it must be utilized?

Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to society and to my children?

Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me?

What social program missed this poor fellow?

Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me?

If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me?

Should I call 9-1-1?

Why is this street so deserted?

We need to raise taxes, have a paint and weed day and make this a happier, healthier street that would discourage such behavior.

This is all so confusing!

I need to debate this with some friends for a few days and try to come to a consensus.

If you identify with this person and feel you would probably act like the man in Scenario #1, then you are a Democrat.

-----------

Scenario Number 2:

BANG! BANG! (a very short delay, then ) BANG! - which was a 'double-tap' to center mass, followed by one to the forehead.

If you identify with this person and feel you would probably act like the man in Scenario #2, then you are a Republican.

------------

Scenario Number 3:

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! click....(sounds of reloading).

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! click.

Daughter: "Nice grouping, Daddy! Were those the Winchester Silver Tips?"

If you identify with this person (or his daughter) and feel you would probably act like the man in Scenario #3, then you are a Libertarian.

Now you know which party to vote for. Remember: Vote early and vote often!

And if you are simple minded

by LOL Thursday, Apr. 22, 2004 at 10:51 AM

you would consider this as a realistic portrayal of life and its violence.

If you were a progressive:

you would be appalled at the state orchestrated massacre in the Dividian church community.

If you are a libertarian

You would argue that they needed more guns to fight the military assault.

If you were a herd member you would sit in front of your TV set and fascinate on the Tanya Harding show.

White Males

by On the Lookout for Terrorists Thursday, Apr. 22, 2004 at 1:08 PM

Most of the violence that has been perpetrated on this continent since Colonial times has been violence by white males. Now I wonder how some of these turkeys who defend the McCarthyism in Long Beach would react if the city decided to get as much information as possible on each white male who enters City Hall or the Library and have the cops keep track of him because he fits this profile. Suppose these white males were brought in on a random basis and questioned as to whether they had ever been involved in fraternity rape, sexual harassment, atrocities if they had been in the military, child abuse, failure to pay child support, harassment of gays, assaulting members of unpopular (among white males) minority groups, date rape, or discrimination on the job. The cries of victimization would echo off the surrounding mountain tops. But if the people brought in are from the Middle East, that, er, is a lot different of course.

spoken like a true (but clueless) racist. Whitey is only blamed by those seeking a free meal or undeserved job...at the expense of Whitey.

Whitey is too busy building the world's greatest civilization to bow 5 times a day, crash planes into buildings (sandnigs don't know how to build either) or fuck camels.

Most educated people know the difference between White Gods and diarrhea-skinned, hooknosed parasite terrorists. Diap3r h3ads are not w3lcom3 h3r3 and will b3 kill3d on sit3.
