Beware in Long Beach

Ask a question at City Hall and you may wind up in Guantanimo, especially if you have a dark complexion.

City employees at Long Beach City Hall are under standing orders to get the names of "suspicious looking" (read look like Arabs) people who ask any questions about any large building or other structure in Long Beach. The names are to be turned into the Long Beach Police Department (who will probably forward them to the FBI) and the person will then be "investigated." I've been told by more than one source that the same policy applies at the Long Beach library. Be careful, don't tell any city employee anything they don't have a right to know, especially if you don't look like someone out of a 1959 episode of the Donna Reed Show or Father Knows Best. Even asking about what floor of the World Trade Center Building houses the Tourist and Visitors Bureau could conceivably get you into trouble if you fit a certain profile and leave your name.
