Italy Must Apologize, Say Captors

A previously unknown group of "mujahidien" called the Green Division of the Prophet Mohammed announced they had captured four Italian security personnel working with the U.S.-led Coalition

The group broadcast a videotape of the four Italians - all holding passports - and the weapons cache allegedly in their possession.

The group called on Italian Prime Minister Berlusconi to issue a public apology for his "long record of statements made against Islam and the Arabs," for the occupation of Iraq, and to withdraw his forces from Iraq. If the demands are met, the group said, the Italians would be treated humanely and released forthwith. No mention was made of the consequence if Italy failed to meet the conditions.

Meanwhile, Shia cleric Al Araji was released by U.S. forces after several hours of detainment in a U.S. tank, he claimed. He said he was treated satisfactorily but was not questioned at all.

Also in Baghdad, eight Russians were released after being detained yesterday.

Near Fallujah, Arab TV showed one burned Apache helicopter and another unidentified transport plane which the commentator said was hit by Iraqi resistance fire.

At press time, there have been no updates on the situation in Fallujah.
