Today Israel raided the banks of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
It's no coincidence that this was done so shortly after the final deliberations at the Hague.
Many have complained that this current trial is sponsored by gross human rights violators and countries that are known to have slaughtered their own. The greatest evidence of this would be in a money trail that leads through every terrorist country.
So what does this diatribe lead to?
Suppose Israel finds evidence of terrorist funding at a bank near Arafat? Suppose Israel sent that bus not as an only defence of the fence, but as a prequel.
What constitutes a war crime? Is terrorism a war crime? Why yes, it is.
This one sided trial, outlining how the Israelis are occupying land that is not theirs, could easily be countered.
And the one way for it to be countered would be to bring suit against Arafat.
Suppose Israel is found guilty before the world for the intrusive fence.
This sets a prescedent that Arafat had better be wary of. Just as easily, and with more evidence, EU backing, US cooperation, and perhaps the other 109 memebers of the ICJ who abstained from this trial, the Israelis can bring Arafat up on charges.
And these are not political charges, rather, they will be charges of blatantly financing murder of civilians.
By bringing this case to the ICJ, although it is a case that should be studied, the Palestinians have opened a pandoras box for their leaders. A box of misery that can be unleashed by Russia, America, and all countries that suffer from Fatah like violent causes.
My only hope is that both countries get rid of thier inefficient bickering leaders and start fresh as peaceful neighbors.
Unfortunately, it will play itself out in court, and delay both peoples happiness even longer.
Sometimes the unfortunate is necessary. Like bricks are to a wall.
