Protest Chickenhawk Congressman Cox !

Date: Saturday, February 21, 2004
Time: 2:15 - 5:00 p.m.
Location: Radisson Hotel
Address: 4545 MacArthur Blvd., Newport Beach
(Across from John Wayne Airport)

This event is taking place at a Republican fundraiser, which is being hosted by Congressman Cox and Congressman Hunter (Chairman, House Armed Services Committee) who haven't thus far done anything to help reopen the El Toro base housing despite pleas from our troops.

Newport Beach Chickenhawk Congressman Chris Cox is chair of the Homeland Security committee in Congress. Yet, Cox has never served one day in the military. (At the time of Viet Nam, he was too busy majoring in partying at the infamous Delta Tau Delta frat house at USC!) But Cox sure had no problem sending others to their death in Iraq.

What is real galling is that he will not open up housing at the former El Toro Marine base so that the troops can have affordable housing! He instead wants to help his earthraper developer buddies make more profit! Talk about corporate welfare!

The housing at El Toro was paid for by taxpayers. So the public benefit should be for those who need it most, like troops living on food stamps! Also, the military has a higher percentage of minorities than the civilian world. So this indifference to the troops who put their ass on line daily borders on racism!

This housing issue at El Toro is just one more example of veterans and military folks getting screwed by chickenhawks!

What/Why We Are Protesting:

We are protesting the fact that military families in Orange and San Diego county are being denied access to the military base housing at El Toro.

We are also protesting the fact that each day the housing sits empty, it costs taxpayers $50,000. During the last two and a half years we have been trying to get our Congressional officials (Cox, Calvert, and Issa.) to reopen the housing, over 40 million taxpayer dollars have been wasted putting troops up on costly apartments they can't afford that could be living at El Toro saving taxpayers millions the word.

During our protest, we would appreciate it very much if everyone would stick to the same "military and taxpayer fleecing" theme so as not to confuse the focus of the protest. In addition to Orange County's military, supporters of Orange County's military and local taxpayers are also invited to participate.

Protest Signage/Theme:

We will have a limited number of signs on hand; you are encouraged to make and bring your own using the same/similar "housing for our troops/fleecing" theme artwork. In creating your own signs, try to use as few words as possible to get the message across quickly to passers by, etc.

Large Crowd Wanted:

If you know of anyone else who is supportive of our cause above, please ask them to come along. Thanks for your support
