"Monsanto Scientist" to Speak at UCR?

by Benito Berlusconi Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004 at 6:24 PM

Alan McHughen will be speaking at the University of California Riverside on Wednesday F18. Is he a front man for Monsanto?

Alan McHughen, a professor of botany and plant sciences, will speak about his book Pandora’s Picnic Basket: The Potential and Hazards of Genetically Modified Foods and answer questions from 3:15 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday Feb. 18, 2004. It is the fifth talk of the 2003-04 UCR Libraries’ Author Series and will be Web cast live from the fourth floor of the Tomás Rivera Library, 900 University Ave., Riverside. The Web cast link is available on the series Web site.

McHughen was or is on the Monsanto payroll and leads front groups that explain how "wonderful" GMO's are. Monsanto, of course, was the producer of Agent Orange, Bovine Growth Hormone, and has attempted to create a monopoly on GM seeds in third world countries. Some of Monsanto’s seeds are modified to require more pesticides, also developed and sold by Monsanto, and seeds that are non-reproducing, which forces third world farmers to continuously purchase seeds from Monsanto with each growing season. They are a disgusting corporation that profits from the world’s poorest and this apologist for GMO's should not be allowed to disseminate lies on behalf of them without meeting stiff resistance during the Q and A session.
