Governator cuts Education and Parole

by mymicz Friday, Jan. 09, 2004 at 10:04 PM

In a really weird twist of politics, did Arnie do something right?

I don't like Arnold. I'm mad about tuition increases that may have my sister (a 4.5 GPA valedictorian) strapped with 50,000 dollars in student loans.

But did Arnie do something right today, maybe.

Cutting parole money may not sound like such a good thing, but the prison system is filled with non-violent offenders who belong in treatment, and college.

It won't save California from fiscal woes, but it will make a statement.

The next step is decriminalization of drug offenders specifically.

Because non-violent offenders include Ken Lay, not all of them should be released with a slap on the wrist.

In fact, Ken Lay should be in a cell with a 250 lb. guy named Buba.

But this step in the correct direction, releasing parolees who didn't physically hurt anyone, may be a means to an end of this drug war. The only thing I feel should be different about what Arnold is doing on this issue is that those who do irresponsible fiscal damage to people- Like Ken Lay- should be considered as violent an offender as a robber, and should have to pay out of pocket for all parole costs.

You say:

I don't like Arnold. I'm mad about tuition increases that may have my sister (a 4.5 GPA valedictorian) strapped with 50,000 dollars in student loans.

Has your sister racked up ,000 in student loans since Arnie took office in November?

That hardly seems possible.

Were any of those loans incurred while Davis was gov.?

Are you mad at Davis?
