It has been over 25 years since the first artists and urban pioneers began to live and work in what is how known as the downtown loft district.

This Saturday night’s opening of a new experimental art space, Dangerous Curve,
is proof that the downtown art scene is alive and thriving.

The Sculpture of LA artist Steven Simon was on display. Simon who often creates sculpture from found objects, recently discovered a large suitcase of expired HIV+ cocktail drugs while dumpster diving for material.

Inspired by the color and the symbolic connotations of using these pills for sculpture. Simon has created objects which serve as both metaphor and symbolic icons.

There are handbags and necklaces made with the brightly colored capsules of anti-viril drugs Acyclovir Cytovene and Zithromax.

There is also the image of a US flag assembled from drug capsules and wire mesh.
