People of Europe! Won’t you discuss “What kind of democracy you have?”

Date: 30 November 2003 Statement: 319 After the four bomb attacks, which came up in Istanbul on November 15th and 20th, some countries of Europe and organs of the European Union took decisions towards Turkey.

The Commission of the European Union has cancelled the activities of

different commissions of the EU in Turkey, under the pretext that

Turkey wouldn’t be a “secure country”.

Activities and official visits wont’t be carried out, if they aren’t

absolutely necessary. The UEFA has cancelled two international games

in Turkey, stating that Turkey wouldn’t be a “secure country”...

Several European countries, from England to Denmark (and USA) called

their citizens “not to travel to Turkey”.

But why?

Was it the first time, that bombs exploded in Turkey? Or is Turkey

the first country in which bombs exploded?

Did the European Union ever take such a decision against other

countries?

Or; why didn’t the European Union take such a decision, in times when

the live security in Turkey was much more under threat?

Why? In the first place the European people should questioned this

“double standard”.

What is it that Europe fears?

Where have the European states and the institutions of the EU been,

while in Turkey extralegal executions, disappearance, unknown

perpetrators, the destruction and emptying of villages continued? Why

did they then ignore “that there was no live security in Turkey”?

There’s no secret about these practices, the governments have started

their period of terror in the name of “total war” and the streets and

villages were turned into a bloodbath.

Do you for instance remember Lice? Any contact within and outside the

country was cut off, it has been burned and destroyed, tens of people

were killed.... Or in the near past the neighbourhood Armutlu in

Istanbul was surrounded, and the death squads committed an announced,

planned massacre.

Where has European democracy and the fear of security been, while the

islamic forces who made the recent bomb attacks, where educated in

the police centers and military barracks and when the number of

“unknown perpetrators” surged up to ten thousands?

Everybody knows about it; The ECHR has countless files and documents

about it.

Where have these EU institutions been at that time? Why didn’t the

imperialist European states tell their citizens “not to go to

Turkey”? when all these things happened?

And one more question: Where has the EU been during the massacre in

the prisons, between 19-22 December 2000? They didn’t fear at all

that “violence”. Because it was “official violence”; the “violence of

the state”. Because it were the imperialist European states itself,

who decided this “violence”, the European Union.

Criticism, fear, warning of its citizens aside, they applouded it as

“successfull operation”.

Now they continue to applaud the massacre in the F-Type prisons.

While the number of deaths is growing day by day, month by month and

is passing hundreds, the European states, the EU didn’t even cancel

one meeting that was held in Turkey. They didn’t say that there was

“terrorism” in Turkey, didn’t tell not to go there!

Is the fear of those who say ‘do not go to Turkey’ and who cancel

their activities in Turkey really in relation with democracy, human

rights, life security, or with the interests of the monopolies?

The European Union and the related institutions should answer to this

question.

The European people, should demand an answer for this from its own

institutions.

The reality that everyone can see who follows the events and

developments is: The reason for this decision is not the “life

security” of the European people, but the computation of the European

monopolies. If it is in their interest, they do not care about four

bombs. Even if there would explode four hundred bombs in Istanbul,

the EU would neither cancel its activities nor call its citizens “not

to go to Turkey!”.

For the interests of the monopolies neither the lives the peoples of

neocolonialist countries like Turkey, nor of its own people has any

importance.

From time to time the EU is also criticising the “attacks on

democratic institutions” in Turkey.

It is using its criticism to deal with the oligarchy. But the same

Europe doesn’t hesitate to attack revolutionaries and democrats

within its own borders.

The one thing that is always valid is the interest of the European

imperialism.

The European Union doesn’t think about the life security of the

people in its last decision on Turkey.

The EU should explain the reality; it should explain the real aim

behind these decisions.

This decision cannot be explained with demagogies of “terrorism,

violence and security”.

Let’s look at the past 23 years of Turkey; It has been the European

monpolies who supported the state terror. All governments, who

carried out juntas, executions, massacres, disappearances, and

murders of unknown perpetrators were supported by Europe. It is the

European states who support the imperialist terror. Europe was

involved in all imperialist attacks that were realized since 1991 in

Iraq, Afghanistan and the Balcans.

That’s why also the EU is among those responsible for the bombings in

Istanbul.

The EU should stop to use the pretext of violence, human rights and

fear for life security; it should tell the truth to its own people.

As long as this reality is not being exposed, the European people

won’t understand who is leading it, whose interests are defended by

the European Union.

Our call to the peoples of Europe!

Do not go to Turkey! But not because the EU is telling this; for the

interests of its monopolies they tell you today not to go, but

tomorrow they even suggest it to you...

You should not go to Turkey, because you shouldn’t support the

fascism of Turkey in direct or indirect way. To give credits to

Turkey, to spend holidays there or to feed it with foreign currency

means to support fascism.

It means to support the oppression of the oligarchy against the

people and the imperialist politics of collaboration. It is neither

in the interest of the European people nor of the people of Turkey to

fortify fascism.

We call upon the European people, not to be on the side of fascism in

Turkey, but on the side of the struggle for right and freedom of the

people in Turkey. Do not give any support to the fascist regime that

is oppression the people!
