a free university of la

by n Monday, Nov. 17, 2003 at 12:36 AM

we need help with finding speakers/presenters and with promotion (distributing flyers, etc). please check out the link or the text below.

A FREE UNIVERSITY

of

LOS ANGELES

we WILL have our own schools that are NOT designed to re-produce ignorance,

obedience, helpless docility, fear, and hate

This series of talks is intended for ALL NON-AUTHORITARIAN people of LA who would

like to have a general overview of SOME of the most significant instances, movements,

theories, and languages of liberation. Most importantly, we would like to discuss how

various people are applying these lessons into their own actions toward liberation.

Currently, we are as ghettoized as our city! It’s time for us to come together and introduce

ourselves to one another. The speakers will discuss:

the sources of their inspiration - HISTORY,

how they understand the world around them - THEORY,

and what they do about it – ACTION !

The point of the university is to provide a space for various non-authoritarian people of LA

to explain/share/discuss/etc the roots of their inspirations; and then explain how some of

those ideas are being applied into their existing ideas and actions.

For example, if it was learning about the Chinese peasant rebellions that initially

motivated you to start a community garden project, then it would be great if you could come

and talk to us about (1) the Peasant Rebellions that you know about, (2) what you found to

be the most inspiring/enlightening elements of it (here you will have a chance to more

explicitly express your current way of seeing the world), and (3) how that inspiration is

translated into the way in which you go about building the gardens. (This is only an example

of one of the ways in which this can be done. The actual presentations are completely up the

speakers.)

Generally, the topics will be presented by people who use the presented ideas and lessons in

their own actions. In addition to being educational, this will also give the presenters and

the people of our communities the much-needed opportunity to get to know one another, build

links, participate in mutual aid, and fight against the ghettoization of our city.

What YOU can do to help:

We need help with:

1) finding speakers

2) distributing flyers (promotion)

If you can help us or know anyone who might want to help/participate, PLEASE contact us as

soon as possible.

Each session is going to be run by the speakers of that session! Since we are very

ghettoized and know very little about one another, then it should probably be a broad intro

thing, but again, it’s up to the presenters to determine how they would like to run their

session. At the end of the session if the people want to get into the topic in any more

depth, then, on the spot, they can agree to meet again, hopefully even branching out to turn

this into a multiplicity of popular education schools.

The location of the particular talks will be up to the speakers for that week, however, if

they don't have a space or don't care, we can provide a space.

CONTACT: freeuniversityofla@yahoo.com (please send us your phone # if you are thinking

about helping with presentations or promotion)

What a heap of stinking steamy horseshit.

Good luck with your career in the catering industry.

That's pretty funny

by Adult Supervisor Monday, Nov. 17, 2003 at 2:06 AM

You're planning to have a program that features Karl Marx.

What a laugh that is.

Why do you lefties keep dredging up Marx? He never had a single idea that works.

You are just rehashing failures of the past. But Marx where he belongs in the trashbin of history and move on.

It seems like what you're trying to do is rally losers and organize them into a fighting force that might overthrow the winners in our society.

Wrong idea! Those losers are losers for a reason and those winners are winners for a reason. It has to do with intellect, motivation, energy, and results.

Yeah, under capitalism the reasons are usually slyness, boot-licking, loose standards of ethics, greed, aggressiveness, belonging to the right racial and ethnic group, and having a generous mommy and daddy with lots of money.

Actually, the kind of economy we are under doesn't matter. What you left-wing dolts haven't figured out is that those of us who are successful under capitalism would be just as equally successful under socialism or communism or anarchy or whatever other "ism" you want to interject. It has nothing to do with the type of economy and everything to do with intellect, motivation, energy, and results. We are "doers", not just people who sit around and talk about it.

Well, if you do the crime you must do the time. Perhaps that can be arranged for you someday. Former landlords, for example, can be assigned to refurbishing the slum buildings that they own, and living in them (under guard) at the same time.

If you don't like your landlord, move. No one is making you stay there. Of course, that would require effort on your part. And we're back to the "doer" thing again.

hey winner,

why don't you use your vastly superior intelect and learn how to read something to the end before jumping into conclusions. if you had read further than the first enter then you would see that the free univeristy is not leftist or anything "ist". it's about LA and what various people are doing around here to make our world a more beautiful place to play.

if you are happy with the way that things are then i would suggest to you to try to attain an imagination. then maybe you won't have to waste your time staring at a set of blinking lights playing the tired old game of troll.
