Police Raid School With Guns Drawn

A dozen officers in Goose Creek, South Carolina stormed through the halls of

Stratford High School with guns drawn, forcing 107 students to lay on the

floor and submit to a drug dog search. Students were commanded to get on their

knees with their hands behind their head, students who did not respond quick

enough were put into handcuffs. One student said, "I thought one of the guns was

going to go off and shoot or kill somebody, so I just got down to my knees and

covered my head for protection."

The scene, which looks more like Iraq than a high school, was captured by the

school surveillance cameras and then broadcast by the media. The raid was an

attempt to find marijuana, but no drugs were found. One student said: "They

would go put a gun up to them and push them against the wall and they would like

take their bookbags."

Parents were outraged at the raid, but principal George McCrackin said he

would “utilize whatever forces that I deem necessary” to keep drugs out of the

school. State police are now investigating the incident.

That's not fascism, you idiot. If it were fascism/socialism/communism/marxism, they would have shot the kids anyway, then shot the parents if they complained about it.

This was over the top, and heads should roll for those who approved of this. But it is in no way a refection of the system as a whole.

Report this post as:

"over the top"

by freeze Friday, Nov. 14, 2003 at 3:14 PM

I agree, it was definately over the top. Drawing down on kids in a highschool, what were these cops thinking? Worst part about the whole thing is that they didn't find a thing, but they claimed that some of the bookbags had "drug residue" on them. Last time I checked, you can't get busted for "drug residue".

It should be disturbing to all of us that, in this day and age, cops feel the need to raid public schools with guns drawn, like they're taking out the taliban or attacking Saddam Hussein's headquarters.

Let's Be Clear

by lbc Friday, Nov. 14, 2003 at 3:29 PM

Let's be very, very, very clear. "Cops" didn't do this. A miniscule amount of cops decided to do this, not all "cops". This is not a reflection of law enforcement as a whole, but rather a reflection on the individuals who approved this, and *only* on them.

Report this post as:

That "miniscule amount"

by efg Friday, Nov. 14, 2003 at 3:46 PM

are the reason cops are becoming more and more hated in America. Cops have to do a pretty thankless job, I'll admit, for little pay. But these guys are supposed to be highly trained, intelligent, responsible. Personally, I'm getting pretty sick of the cops being in the news all the time for being fucking stupid. Cops punching 16 year old kids in hand-cuffs and smacking heads down on the back of police cruisers, cops drawing down on teens in high schools, it's one thing after the other with the cops.

Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Give them and inch and they think they're a ruler.

If criminals have to deal with a "three strikes" rule, then cops should get a "one strike" rule. One significant screw up and you're fired. No exceptions. The cops that pulled out the guns in that high school should be collecting unemployment right now.

PERIOD.

Why can't I brandish my Browning M1911 out in public like that? In fact, a school is government porperty, so even if I have a permit to carry, it's still a felony for me to carry my handgun onto a school's grounds. But hey, these cops can do it.

It's illegal for me to brandish a firearm, even though I'm protected and have the RIGHT to own one, under the second ammendment, but cops can wave theirs around like the outlaw Josey Wales.

Larry, grow up. You can't do it for the same reason I can't. Do you see me complaining that I can't carry my gun on school property? No. There's a reason the average citizen doesn't carry a gun on his hip and law enforcement does. If you can't figure that out,.............

efg, grow up. Criminals should have a 3 strike rule. And if found guilty, the officers responsible should receive the correct repremand, whatever that may be on a case by case basis. I disagree that cops are being "more and more hated". Maybe certain groups dislike law enforcement or people with certain political agendas or leanings, but those type of people are not worth consideration and therefore not given any. If the shoe fits,.............

People like you two don't get to decide. It is obvious by your remarks you aren't capable of making rational decisions.

Actually no, I can't figure that out. Why don't you explain it? What are you saying? That the average citizen is irresponsible and shouldn't be allowed to have the right to keep and bear arms? But the cops are responsible and should? I'd beg to differ...

My personal opinion is that if we all had a gun on our hip, we might all be a little nicer and more considerate to one another.

But the average citizen is represented in that photo above. And the average cop too.

Wrong. In dealing with problems of this sort, it is ridiculous to assume it is isolated. If there was an atmosphere that would not tolerate such activity, it wouldn't have happened. Obviously, from the cops to the principal, they thought their actions were in line with what is considered acceptable. Such an atmoshphere exists throughout the country, in case you haven't been paying attention, and has been since Reagan Drug War was started.

The problem is systematic...the War on Drugs wasn't started by a police chief and principal in SC...deny it all you want, but for those of us with real life experience, it is obvious. Try to get out of the house once in a while, if your mom will let you.
