I haven't seen anyone say anything to that extreme. You seem to be overreaching here. But, I would agree with the statement of the one who said you may never win again. How you handle never getting your way politically says a lot about one's character. It doesn't mean you give up, but you learn to lose graciously.

Yes, I do have children. I've taught my children the same things my parents taught me, the same things parents everywhere should be teaching their kids. That is, the things you do on a daily basis to better yourself and those around you have more influence than anything coming out of Washington, D.C. I don't live my life concerned with what a bunch of bureaucrats in D.C. are doing. I have much more control over my own life and what I do than they ever will. I don't look to them for handouts, I don't look to them for advise, I don't look to them to provide any of my basic needs. It doesn't matter to me if it's a Democrat or a Republican in office, it's not going to change how I conduct myself. Mind you, the only thing that government can do is get in my way, but they cannot impede me, for I will find a way to do what I want to do the way I want to do it. We have way too many people who believe their success is dependent upon other people. My success is not dependent upon who's in office. The best thing we could do is reduce the side of government down to the bare essentials and then step out of the way, let the people take over and produce. And when people realize that their lives and their success is not dependent upon who's in office, when people stop turning to government to care for them and rather take the responsibility of their own lives upon themselves, then they too will come to know and understand these things, and the poineering spirit that is part of man's make-up will drive us on to better tomorrows.

Separation of church and state. Do you mean the way the founding fathers meant it, no state sanctioned religion, i.e. Great Britian and the Church of England, or do you mean that religious beliefs should not play a part in state policy? On the former, we do not have a state religion. On the latter, asking people to refrain from using their religious convictions when making political decisions not a reasonable request.

I would venture to say that very few people who are registered to vote and have labeled themselves as a particular party member are absolutely aligned with the party's platform.

I finally registered as a Republican as more a symbolic gesture against whay I started to dislike about the Democrats than anything else.

You are a fiscal conservative but a social liberal, much in the same way as Gov. Arnold. I consider people like you to be liberals, in this case liberal Republicans.

It's the same as in the Democratic Party. You have fiscal liberals who are social conservatives, or as they are refered, conservative Democrats.

Neither the liberal Republicans nor the conservative Democrats speak on behalf of the parties, but as long as you're voting might as well have you voting the right way. Typically, conservative Democrats have crossed over when they vote more than liberal Republicans, for reasons as I see it that liberal Republicans vote their wallets and many conservative Democrats vote their moral convictions. When I was a Democrat many years ago, I certainly voted Republican based upon their moral stands on social issues. Of course back then, Democrat party economic policies were more conservative than they are now. Like Ronald Regean said, I didn't leave the party, they left me.

I regard Liberal Republicans as those who have a good grip on fiscal economic policies, but have failed to properly understand how history has shown us that even the best economic models will fail unless proper social models are also implemented. Hopefully you will come to a better understanding, but if not, at least the country would not go bankrupt as quickly as it would if you were Democrats.

Hmm...not an easy question. Someone suggested voting; you don't like that idea because you don't feel it does much good. What you do is align yourself with a group of like-minded people. Strength in numbers, and all that. Then you organize. Get active. I'm not talking about marching (what is this fascination with getting in the streets and acting weird, anyway? COuld someone explain that to me, adn why you think it does any good?) I'm talking about political action. Get a guy. Put him in a suit and write him speeches. Have him shake hands and kiss babies.

Wait a minute! Someone's already done all that for you! Republican Party. Democratic Party. Green Party. Frat part...oops, sorry. Anyway, pick a party that meshes most with your personal feelings. Volunteer. Get behind the guy you think will have the best chance to change the world the way you want it to be. Get him elected, if you can. And then hold him to the positions that made you back him to begin with. (Side note: Anyone who wants the job can't be trusted with it. But you can't give the job to someone who doesn't want it. Buggar all.)

But what happens if your guy doesn't win? Bogus. You have two options:

1. Whine constantly, accuse the other guy of election theft, and make up ridiculous conspiracy theories.

2. Try harder next time. Get your point across more clearly to the voters. Don't sound strident; sound confident and concerned for people. Actually, don't just sound concerned...BE concerned. Sincerely. (Confidential to campaign managers: Just because the oppostion candidate is an SOB is not sufficient reason to vote for your guy.) Don't talk down to the voters. They don't like that. That's how a rancher from Texas got to be President last ime.

Failing all that, you have a couple more options to change the world:

1. Run for office yourself, paying close attention to the preceeding advice.

2. Armed insurrection. But that's expensive and generally isn't survival-oriented behaviour. But, hey, you could go out in a blaze of glory...

Someone up there said to, basically, suck it up, Buttercup. If there is no chance to make the world over the way you want it, you'd just better find a way to be as happy as you can be. Otherwise you're gonna be pretty miserable and bitter. And that's no way to go through life. Ulcers, divorce, hair loss. Bad stuff.

Pro-strong military, natch. Must put more money in crumbling military infrastructure, as well as new weapons systems, pay and bennies raises, and quality-of-life issues. A happy, well-trained, and well-equipped military is a fearsome thing indeed, and a very good thing to have on your side.

Favor flat tax. Even for churches. "Render unto God that which is God's, and render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's." I think Alan had a concern about churches not being represented even if they're taxed. What's the diffence between a taxed church and a taxed corporation? None. Neither entity can vote, but their members can. And both can lobby theri brains out on behalf of the issues their members think are important.

Separation of Church and State is a very good thing. But there is persecution of Christian organizations going on. For instance, the ACLU filed suit against the Boy Scouts over having an event on public land, becasue the BS requires a testament of faith in God. Yet the ACLU raised not a peep about a Muslim group building a retreat and worshipo center on public land. What's up with that? The Left seems to have it in for Christianity.
