The recent removal of the "Latest Comments" function at LA-IMC was predicted, and is the right way to go.

Discussion spawned from http://la.indymedia.org/news/2003/08/78363.php but in a FORUM!!!!!!!!!

""Look around the IMC sites. some are zoos, others just give news.

There is a reason.........""

""The IMC sites that are just informative don't have the "comments" function. You know, the link you click on and it shows you the latest comments. Those are just chat rooms. (LA SF.....)

However the sites such as Boston IMC just post articles and nobody really comments, it does not "bump the thread to the top"

I sort of like the yahoo news system where you can forum chat about the article but it is separate. Combined with the BBC system where they invite you to comment on a topic. That is strictly moderated. The comments are delayed and screened so the comments on an article are just that. comments on the article. The discussion an article spawns should be in a discussion thread. There the topic can develop.

Look at how many news articles on LA IMC develop into "discussions" about nothing to do with the article! Here you got the mix, a news posting and comment section and then a back end free for all forum.

On LA IMC the majority of "news" items posted are things that on a forum would be topics. LA IMC is running a BBS using newswire code.""

Now, if LA-IMC would just take the lead and open a free for all forum so all the people here could discuss issues with the newswire and comments section seperate and moderated so that only comments on the NEWS article were allowed then that would be perfect!

You need to define what is "NEWS" and what is a "TOPIC" then news and comments on that news are in one section, Topics and general discussion points are in another section.

Registering a username would help stop people posting under other peoples "identities" and we could bring some sort of order to the anarchy that has destroyed LA-IMC.

You have anarchy here at the moment, anarchy you are trying to bring under control. You are combatting DISORDER.

To end..........
