Chomsky the Brainwasher

by Smolensk Monday, Nov. 03, 2003 at 3:51 AM

A good critique of Chomsky's political writing exposing his brainwashing methods.

Beware of false prophets kids. Remember the Pied Piper.

Excellent article.

by nonanrchist Monday, Nov. 03, 2003 at 4:43 AM

Now let the rabid denials and attacks begin!

But before they do, let me add this:

Bill Whittle (www.ejectejecteject.com) said it best, so I'll let him do the talking:

"This is how you lie by telling the truth. You tell the big lie by carefully selecting only the small, isolated truths, linking them in such a way that they advance the bigger lie by painting a picture inside the viewer?s head. The Ascended High Master of this Dark Art is Noam Chomsky.

"I have long admired Noam Chomsky. It must be absolutely intoxicating to be able to write so free of any ethical constraints. Chomsky flitters and darts through the vast expanse of human experience, unerringly searching out those few, isolated data points that run contrary to the unimaginably vast ocean of facts crashing ashore in the opposite direction.

"Here?s a Noam Chomsky moment for those of you without enough duct tape to wrap around your heads to keep your brains from exploding while you actually read his works:

"Let?s say we stand overlooking the ocean along Pacific Coast Highway. From high atop the cliffs, we look down to the waves and the sand below. I ask you what color the beach is. You reply, reasonably enough, that it is sandy white. And you are exactly right.

"However, there are people who cannot see the beach for themselves because they are not standing with us on this very spot. This is where Noam earns his liberal sainthood. Noam takes a small pail to the beach and sits down in the sand.

"If you?ve ever run sand through your fingers, you know that for all of the thousands upon thousands of white or clear grains, there are a few dark ones here and there, falling through your fingers. With a jeweler?s loupe and an EXCEEDINGLY fine pair of tweezers, you carefully and methodically pluck all of the dark grains you can find ? and only the dark grains ? and carefully place them, one by one, into your trusty bucket.

"It will take you a long time ? it has taken Chomsky decades ? to fill this bucket, but with enough sand and enough time, you will eventually do so. And then, when you do, you can make a career touring colleges through the world, giving speeches about the ebony-black beaches of Malibu, and you can pour your black sand onto the lectern and state, without fear of contradiction, that this sand was taken from those very beaches.

"And what you say will be accurate, it will be factually based, and you will be lying like the most pernicious son of a bitch that ever lived...

"Shortly after 9/11, and somewhat before the ?Taliban forces did finally succumb, after astonishing endurance? St. Noam thundered that America?s ?Silent Genocide? in Afghanistan would kill ? pick a number, any number -- somewhere between 3 to 4 million civilians. At one point, he intimated that up to 10 million could die.

"The real number was around 500.

"Being Noam Chomsky means you get a pass for being wrong not by a factor of ten to one, or even a hundred to one. In Afghanistan, Chomsky was wrong by a factor of 20,000 to one. . .

"Misdirection. Unsubstantiated allegations. Undocumented assertions. Counting a few scattered hits and ignoring millions of misses. You can prove anything in this manner, if your audience is a willing accomplice and refuses to challenge you.

"Michael Moore used exactly this technique to make people believe that America is a land of terrified, racist murderers who are armed to the teeth solely because of their fear of black people. For this he was given an Academy Award, and Bowling for Columbine has been called ?the best documentary film ever made.?"

ah... a Chomsky thread

by Sheepdog Monday, Nov. 03, 2003 at 6:39 PM

Terror alert #9.
HAVANA, OCTOBER 30: US linguist and political dissident Noam Chomsky said on Tuesday that President George W. Bush will have to ‘‘manufacture’’ another threat to American security to win reelection in 2004 after the US failure in occupying Iraq.

Chomsky, attending a Latin American social sciences conference in Cuba, said that since the September 11 attacks on the United States, the Bush administration had redefined US national security policy to include the use of force abroad, with or without UN approval.
‘‘It is a frightened country and it is easy to conjure up an imminent threat,’’ Chomsky said at the launching of a Cuban edition of a book of interviews published by the Mexican newspaper La Jornada, when asked how Bush could get reelected.

‘‘They have a card that they can play ... terrify the population with some invented threat, and that is not very hard to do,’’ he said.

I'd say Chumpsky is 0 for 2 in this thread...

by Max Monday, Nov. 03, 2003 at 7:40 PM

First it was:

"Shortly after 9/11, and somewhat before the ?Taliban forces did finally succumb, after astonishing endurance? St. Noam thundered that America?s ?Silent Genocide? in Afghanistan would kill ? pick a number, any number -- somewhere between 3 to 4 million civilians. At one point, he intimated that up to 10 million could die.

"The real number was around 500.

Now it's:

"US linguist and political dissident Noam Chomsky said on Tuesday that President George W. Bush will have to ‘‘manufacture’’ another threat to American security to win reelection in 2004 after the US failure in occupying Iraq."

“nothing to do with reality”

by Max Monday, Nov. 03, 2003 at 9:02 PM

What a laugh.

“nice round and low nimber having nothing to do with reality.
Pulled from where?”

Only an expert in delusion and mental depravity, with acute awareness of psychotropic delusion, honed through decades of personal, active participation in sensory depravation exercises and double-blind studies in madness, could be capable of coming up with such a bizarre observation.

Sheepskin, you are quite the basket case!

Even if you believe the typical leftist slant on Afghanistan:

"A Dossier on Civilian Victims of United States' Aerial Bombing of Afghanistan:
A Comprehensive Accounting [revised]
"What causes the documented high level of civilian casualties -- 3,000 - 3,400 [October 7, 2001 thru March 2002] civilian deaths -- in the U.S. air war upon Afghanistan? The explanation is the apparent willingness of U.S. military strategists to fire missiles into and drop bombs upon, heavily populated areas of Afghanistan."

http://www.cursor.org/stories/civilian_deaths.htm

it doesn’t even compare to the foreordained prophecies of Professor Chumpsky, whose precognitions exclained millions…ney…tens of millions of innocent lives would be extinguished in Afghnaistan.

Now, what again were you saying about stuff having basis in reality?

So this discredits Noam Chomsky? And Michael Moore? Or just one? Both? I'm confused! Who is the ultimate intellectual god that I can follow to the revolution? Please tell me because all my heroes have been proven fools or liers or both?
Howsabout thinking for yerselves and taking what some person you don't even know tells you with a grain of salt?
Also, the fact that there may be errors in any given essay/speach/book/lecture should not immediately discredit everything that person says. If that's the case, who exactly in this world is to be 'trusted'? I understand being critical, not elitist. These examples don't come close to invalidating Chomskys work for me.
Bye!

Yes. Obviously the humanitarian crisis caused by U.S. intervention in Afghanistan is unparalleled, the likes of which history has never seen. CHUMPsky was absolutely right. Tens of millions. We should all hang our heads in the utmost shame.

No war is nice, sheepdog. Some wars, however, are necessary.

But your idol, Chomsky, wants to hyperbolize his puffer-fish position, write it all up nice and neat, bound it in paperback, and sell it to you, $24.95, just so you can enjoy your five minutes hate.

I call it opportunism.

Nice idol you’ve got there.

“Also, the fact that there may be errors in any given essay/speach/book/lecture should not immediately discredit everything that person says.”

That’s right. Besides, Noam’s not wrong yet. A few thousand Afghanis have already died, but hey, that doesn’t count the ones that will keel over from “starvation”. Noam said tens of millions, by God, and tens of millions is what it will ultimately be!

4,000 dead … 9,996,000 to go. Noam said so.

by Max Tuesday, Nov. 04, 2003 at 12:38 AM

I know, I know, I know. Turn the other cheek and all that luvy-duvy stuff. Planes smashing into buildings don't mean anything to you, but the rest of us don't cotton to standing idly by. But, then again, we didn't have to declare war on Japan after Pearl Harbor, when you get down to the nitty-gritty of it. But it made us feel a little better about getting sucker-punched...

I don't see what the big deal about "putting feet in the fire" is. Anyone can take the opposition to public opinion, claim the sky is green and the grass is blue.

Does that mean it's the responsible thing to do? Is that the right thing to do?

The problem with leftists is that they assume, because the popular position differs from their own, that the rest of the nation is just "stupid", and that the public doesn't think for itself.

People don't cotton to being called stupid, either.

"Chomsky isn't my hero."

I'll bite. Who is?

One simple question Sheepdog...if you can answer it with even a reasonable explanation, I'll concede that you're right, George W. Bush killed all of those people on 9-11...

Here it is...ready?

What would make the thousands of Americans, that would obviously be necessary to carry out such a conspiracy on the American public of the magnitude you suggest, comply with the chain of command, carry out their orders, and keep the scheme secret so well, that not one single person that was "in the know" has come forward to squeal on the killers?

Oh. That explains it. I should have known that this was bigger than him. It should have been obvious. The President is just a figurehead. He has no real authority. It's been that way for decades.

So sheep, when do you think this country last had an honestly elected President that was actually in control of the country?

Oh here's one more hypothetical question that I don't really expect for you to answer sheep...

Which would make YOU kill:

1.) fear that your strong religious convictions were being undermined?

A lie is almost always relative sheep. You'd think a critical thinker would know this.

Even if everyone was compelled to be truthful, wouldn't put an end to the inherent evil in this world, evils that must be dealt with. Many of which are relative too.

Anyway, enough for today, sheep.
