Just as before, when you called for a boycott of that store, which is about a half mile from me and has been there for 20 years, I went in there and asked. Besides knowing Clara and Ned Lyle for 10 years, and knowing their employees, there is no possible way that there are people hiding in the back or in a secret basement running this KOBE thing you blame them of. It must be easy for you to say what you do when you have never been in that store, but people here in Los Angeles, or more specifically in Harbor City, can easily go in there and see the truth. I have been reading the responses you get when you try to connect the KOBE with Computers NLA, and you just dont seem to get it.

I'll request an update to the statement. They do ban IPs by disruptive users who seek to turn this newswire into an angry shouting match where opinions and people are denigrated by individuals like Bush Admirer and KOBE. To do this, I believe that IPs are logged for a short period of time.

As for demos against Computers NLA and whatnot, IMC does not do that.

BTW, in case anyone cares, KOBE appears to be the same or supported by NLA, and they appear to be the people behind the new "fake IMC". This is mostly conjecture on my part, but, they all seem to be the same militaristic pseudo-libertarians. I believe their goal is to destroy the IMC by being jerks in the sandbox and shitting and pissing on everything. I also think Steven DeVoy is either an unstable person they lured onto the IMC, or is a fabrication of KOBE to create a fight in this sandbox.

The social contract behind the IMC is not immutable; it is subject to adjustment. We've adjusted to try and keep the angry, excessively insulting, and confrontational people away. People in the community have asked for more censorship than we've provided. So, odds are, as an organization, the degree of editorial control over the site will increase, simply because of social pressures. KOBE could never "come up" with anything like Stephen DeVoy. He just sort of "grew" on his own, kinda like a fungus. As far as Computers NLA goes, they are a little computer store in Harbor City which Stephen DeVoy is convinced are behind KOBE because they hosted the KOBE website for three months. THOSE statements are what label you as unstable. You seem to disregard the fact that this is LOS ANGELES indymedia. That means that Computers NLA and the JDL are not just a collection of screenshots and a paranoid theory from an unstable anarchist who is on anti-depressant medication.

People can actually GO to the store, and see that what you are saying is pure bullshit. Picture a little store about 1000 sq feet (about the size of a small apartment, with two older senior citizens, one youngish technician who works in plain view in the rear of the store, and a lone Mexican handyman who sweeps and straigntens things. There are three workbenches, and a tall components rack with one web server and two test servers for internal use. THAT is what people see when they go into Computers NLA. Then there's the technical proof which clearly shows that no KOBE posts or websites share any resources with that store whatsoever. In fact, they are on two completely different major trunk lines (PacBell for CompNLA, and GTE for KOBE). A service grid block is 20 MILES SQUARE, and only one service provider services each grid (as all Californians know). That means that your theorized location for KOBE is at least 20 miles wrong.

Then there's the issue with the JDL. I am not Jewish, and there are NO members of KOBE which are Jewish. We are pro-Israel because they represent the best hope for DEMOCRATIC peace in the Middle East. Islamic regimes will not, and do not work, and foster terrorism in the name of religion. Later, the fake IMC website (Beach Cities IMC) was registed with the same fake address.

Emails sent to Ned Lyle have twice been answered not by Ned Lyle but by KOBE SBM.

I'm philosohpically opposed to blocking IPs, but that's my own opinion, and not the IMCs. A few of us (who shall remain anonymous for now) are trying to learn the software a bit more and hope to add features that will steer the discussion in a more civil direction.

The way I see it, tactics like blocking and censorship are small steps toward the ultimate shutdown of the Open Publishing idea. Somewhere between this mess we have today, and a total shutdown, is a reasonable medium where discussion is productive, newsreading isn't polluted by the negative energy of disruptive posters, and access is open to everyone. At least, that's what I like to think.

Ultimately, the IMC Newswire doesn't exist primarily for online web-board style pissing matches between online personae who will never meet each other, and basically spend all day venting their spleens to their screens. It's most productive when local progressive community can turn to the IMC to get the latest news about community news, opinions, and events.

Honestly, I believe the LA IMC's failed at this goal. I think, with some work away from the site, doing real work, face to face or side by side with kindred activists, we can overcome some of the challenges presented by kobe, bush admirer, and others.

I get the impression you're "unstable" because the entire theory seems wholly mechanistic and impossible to implement. This is what I have always referred to as "leftist dementia". Talking to the regulars here on IMC has intrigued me for a long time, although I'm certain it would not appeal to the average person. It is much like chatting with a schizophrenic, but from a safe distance. At first, when you realize these people are seriously hearing voices in their own heads, it is somewhat chilling.
