Nice
With all the problems in the world, it's still nice to see so many people take joy in a postseason Yankee loss.
3 -1. Twins beat Mussina.
Go Twins!

This is the time to beat the Yankees, in the first round. Something about those damn pinstripes as they start moving closer to the World Series.

They always find a way to come back. More than any team I've ever seen.
They almost did it today in the ninth.

However, they will never do it unless the Twins first beat the Yankees; otherwise the Red Sox will find some impossible way to lose to New York in the last of the ninth inning in game 7. If they then find a way to lose to Chicago in the World Series, it will be proof that the Curse is real.

I'm rooting for the Sox all the way. I actually like a few of the teams. But a Red Sox Cubs series would be sorta a let down. No team to hate. Red Sox Giants would be great. I'd love to see Pedro sit Bonds down a few times.

The Braves have some VERY bad postseason habits to break before they win it all.

Yeah, I know.
I can still wish.
You know, we ought to keep some kind of sports thread going all the time. I know some IMCers will say thats not the purpose of the site, but its a nice break from constant politics, and as long as we're all here anyway..........

A little break is a good idea.
I have to admit that I'm a baseball purist though, but i can hang with the rest.
I mean, I'm an Orioles fan so I've had to choose my playoff teams differently every year.

I used to watch baseball more, but it got to be frustrating. IMHO, there are too many teams, the talents spread too thin. There aren't 30 decent players in the whole league.
I'll tell you what straw broke the camels back. It was about 5 or 6 years ago, I was reading the rosters of all the teams, and I came to the Detriot Tigers. I read the names, "Trammell, Fryman, who?, who?, who?, who?, who?....." Mind you. I'm not a Tigers fan, but when you only recognize two players...... I think you catch my drift.
Go Braves! (Yeah, I'm still hoping)

considering i like to criticize US society...
what the fuck is up with americans and sports?
can u say obsession?
football games for example...
only abouy 20% of the people in the stadium actually know what the fuck is going on, theh other 80% tag along because they are mindless fucks and because watching football is the "cool" thing to do.
same goes for suburban high schools. "what are you doing friday night". "oh im going to the game"
the GAME!? THE GAME!?
god damn it man. dont u have nething better to do? u dont even fuckin know how to play football! are you really that mindless and do you really lack a personality?
i mean its a measly high school game. why the fuck does the WHOLE school insist on going when most people are not even fans of football?
damn this shit. ppl in america are motivated to do shit just because its "cool"

Look guy, if you don't like sports, then don't concern yourself. Most people (not just Americans) in the world like sports of one kind or another. In fact, the few who don't like any sports at all are in the minority. Besides, it's a nice break from being at each other throats, don't you think?

I was reminded of something the other day that amazed me.
Did you know that Babe Ruth's slugging percentage over his career was .690? I had forgotten that. That's frickin' incredible!!!!!, and I don't care what era you played in. Sometimes we don't recognize just how good he and Ty Cobb, Shoeless Joe Jackson and a bunch of the early players really were.

Not only that, but Ruth was an amazing pitcher. I'll have to check out his numbers (although his bat forced them to move him to the outfield so he could play everyday).

I disagree. Most Americans know the rules of football. You may have a few who don't and go to the game, but big deal. If they want to go and just be with the crowd and have fun, so be it. I've gone places that what was going on didn't particularily interest me, but I went because some people I liked were going and it gave me time to hang out with them.
I like golf, too.
I had a friend from Jamaica who liked to play cricket. He was going to explain the rules to me cause I've seen in on TV but have no idea how they score, etc... He moved back, so I'll need to find someone else to explain it as we watch the game. Looks interesting though.

ok i have a question
once again i will use football as an example.
lets say there exists a DIE-HARD green bay packers fan. now lets see in some freak incident, all the players in the packers team move to other teams, and teammembers from other teams become packers. who does the DIE-HARD packers fan then support?

I guess that would depend on the individual, but if they are DIE-HARD fans they would probably support the team. Wouldn't it be the same for a DIE-HARD Surrey fan, that if all the players left he would support the team?

Unfortunately, it does get harder to root for a team with consistent members for more than a couple of years in a row.
But I think most people alsways root for the team, and not the players.
There are players, though, who have left my team who I still root for.

As much as I tend to agree with you, I'm saying the Sox are gonna win.
The Cubs and The Sox will meet in the Series and the world will tilt off it's axis.
This is great Baseball.

I swear, you could take the Detroit Tigers and put them in Yankee uniforms in the playoffs and they'd win it. It's the pinstripes.
You're right though, great baseball.
