Into the Meatgrinder, more National Guard Troops to be sent to Iraq

by peace dove Sunday, Sep. 28, 2003 at 6:55 AM

86 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the man in the White House declaired the war over on May 1st. Now U.S. forces are engaged in a classic guerilla war with the people of Iraq... time to send more warm bodies. Hey George.... where are those weapons of mass destruction you launched the war to find?

U.S. ready to deploy 10,000 guard troops
5,000 others on alert for future service
Associated Press Sept. 27th, 2003

WASHINGTON—The U.S. military, faced with reluctance by other nations to send forces to Iraq, last night activated 10,000 Army National Guard troops to go there and put 5,000 more Army Guard soldiers on alert for likely service in Iraq.

The mobilization order for the 30th Infantry Brigade from North Carolina and the 39th Infantry Brigade from Arkansas, each with 5,000 troops, to mobilize over the next two weeks had been expected. They were earlier alerted for replacement rotation into Iraq, where the U.S. now has about 130,000 troops.

The army also announced last night it was alerting the 81st National Guard Brigade from Washington state, also with 5,000 troops, to be prepared for a likely call to active duty in Iraq.

True love of military life

by Parmenides Sunday, Sep. 28, 2003 at 9:59 AM

Wasn't the psychopath bush in the National Guard when he went AWOL?

Just goes to show how hypocritical and craven the neo-cons, the republicans, and their fascist handlers are.

You said... "86 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the man in the White House declaired the war over on May 1st."

The president did NOT declare "the war over". He said it "WAS THE END OF MAJOR COMBAT OPERATIONS". Is this distinction too subtle for you or are you simply fabricating statements? Which is it?

And we are not at war "with the people of Iraq". Thats a broad and inaccurate generalization. The magority of Iraqi's are happy we got rid of Saddam. Apparently you would prefer that they still live under his tyranny. Yeah, you sure do care about people.

Nevermind. It just won't penetrate that titanium skull of yours.

Yeah, yeah, yeah

"yeah they are so happy now that one US installed asshole has been replaced by another group of US installed assholes. "

I know that's a poular buzzphrase around the illinformed anti-America circles, but it's getting to be sorta silly, hearing adults continually show how utterly ignorant they are of history.

Short of being able to read the future and simply going into Iraq and forcibly stopping Sadam from taking power DECADES ago, we had pretty much nothing to do with his rise to power.

don't stick your ass out in the street like that to get run over. We've been through this before and unless you are suffering air pockets in the brain, you know we had the CIA put him in power.
Do you want me to start posting info that shows just how stupid your
comment is? Do ya?

maybe that's what is causing the buzz(phrase)ing in your head

>Short of being able to read the future and simply going into Iraq and forcibly stopping Sadam from taking power DECADES ago, we had pretty much nothing to do with his rise to power<

Apparently fresca has forgotten history... how conveeeeeeinent.

"Another very good example of a CIA-organized regime change was a coup in 1963 that employed political assassination, mass imprisonment, torture and murder. This was the military coup that first brought Saddam Hussein's beloved Ba'ath Party to power in Iraq. At the time, Richard Helms was Director for Plans at the CIA. That is the top CIA position responsible for covert actions, like organizing coups. Helms served in that capacity until 1966, when he was made Director.
In the quotations collected below, the name of the leader who was assassinated is spelled variously as Qasim, Qassim and Kassem. But, however you spell his name, when he took power in a popularly-backed coup in 1958, he certainly got recognized in Washington. He carried out such anti-American and anti-corporatist policies as starting the process of nationalizing foreign oil companies in Iraq, withdrawing Iraq from the US-initiated right-wing Baghdad Pact (which included another military-run, US-puppet state, i.e., Pakistan) and decriminalizing the Iraqi Communist Party. Despite these actions, and more likely because of them, he was Iraq's most popular leader. He had to go!
In 1959, there was a failed assassination attempt on Qasim. The failed assassin was none other than a young Saddam Hussein. In 1963, a CIA-organized coup did successfully assassinate Qasim and Saddam's Ba'ath Party came to power for the first time. Saddam returned from exile in Egypt and took up the key post as head of Iraq's secret service.-
-In early 1963, Saddam had more important things to worry about than his outstanding bill at the Andiana Cafe. On February 8, a military coup in Baghdad, in which the Baath Party played a leading role, overthrew Qassim. Support for the conspirators was limited. In the first hours of fighting, they had only nine tanks under their control. The Baath Party had just 850 active members. But Qassim ignored warnings about the impending coup. What tipped the balance against him was the involvement of the United States. He had taken Iraq out of the anti-Soviet Baghdad Pact. In 1961, he threatened to occupy Kuwait and nationalized part of the Iraq Petroleum Company (IPC), the foreign oil consortium that exploited Iraq's oil. In retrospect, it was the ClAs favorite coup. We really had the ts crossed on what was happening, James Critchfield, then head of the CIA in the Middle East, told us. We regarded it as a great victory. Iraqi participants later confirmed American involvement. We came to power on a CIA train-

Latest Gallup Poll in Iraq

by Barney Sunday, Sep. 28, 2003 at 4:58 PM

The latest Gallup Survey shows a majority of Iraqis are quite pleased with what has happened in their country.

Two-thirds say it was all worth it to get rid of Saddam.

They are also reasonably content with the work of the American/Uk forces and are optimistic about the future of their country.

A future that those nitiwits on the left tried to deny to these people.

I'll never forgive those fools for trying to condemn the Iraqi people to decades more of living in a prison of a country.

Silly Barney!

by nonanarchist Sunday, Sep. 28, 2003 at 5:59 PM

Don't you know the Left, sitting here in America in comfort and safety, knows far better what's right for the Iraqi people than the Iraqis do themselves? They're "intellectuals", after all.

Just ask them.

Although it's fun watching them get all huffy when you mention how the acid baths, mass graves, plastic shredders, rape squads and children's prisons would all still be going on if they had gotten their way.

"That doesn't matter! That's all conjecture! No blood for oil! Bush BOOOOSH!!"

"Oh,and we're sure the JOOOOS had something to do with it..."

For God and Country

by Senior Chief Art Messer Monday, Sep. 29, 2003 at 6:28 AM

From Senior Chief Art Messer, 22 Naval
Construction Regiment (Forward) Task Force Charlie U. S. Navy Seabees

I caught wind of and read the recent news articles being circulated back there in the states.

I figured I could clarify some things for you. As usual the news media has blown some things way out of proportion. The countryside is getting more safe by the day despite all the attacks you are hearing about.

Imagine every shooting incident or robbery committed in LA or Portland being blown way out of proportion. This is a country where most of the Saddam Hussein thugs are being chased around like scared rabbits by Coalition forces. It is literally open season on them!

We hunt them down like animals. There were about a million soldiers in the Iraqi army at the beginning of hostilities and most of them took off before we attacked. There are some that were very loyal to Saddam that are trying to sneak around and take pot shots at us.

We are cleaning them up pretty fast. There are also thugs from other countries running around, like Iran and Syria. Well the Iraqis hate these thugs as much as we do. So the Iraqi people are hunting them down too! I can honestly say 98% of the population of Iraq love us and they do not want us to leave...ever! They say as long as we are here they feel safe.

What is going on with the countries infrastructure? Everything is going well! The railroad is running again! The railroad has not run since 1991. In the city of Hilllah, the power stays on 24 hours a day and it has more power than prior to the war. Some Iraqis are worried about getting too much food from the coalition because they don't have enough room in their homes to store it.

The markets are open. The Seabees have rebuilt all of the schools and put in furniture and chalkboards. The kids used to sit on the floor! Now they have nice desks to sit at.

Commerce is running. New money is being printed. The Iraqi Dinar has stabilized and is now increasing in value. Most of the Iraqi men want to buy Chevy pickups (I told them a Dodge Ram with a Cummins Diesel is better Ha Ha). They pretty much want any vehicle made by General Motors. The highways and bridges are being repaired. In the Universities, the girls have tossed their deshakas (long black dresses with head and face coverings) and are now wearing western style clothes and even some are wearing short sleeves.

The favorite drink is Pepsi, followed by Coke. They want us to bring them any and everything American. Any item made in America or that is from America is worth money over here.

The newspapers and television paint a picture of doom and gloom and that we are having major problems over here. That is just not the case. The Iraqis have a saying about the situation over here "Every day is Better than the day before". Life is flowing back in to this country and it is fun to watch and I am so glad I got to watch it happen. Some days watching the Iraqi people is like watching the faces of little kids on Christmas Day! Many of them are walking around in a daze wondering what to do with their freedom. They are starting businesses everywhere. They want to build shopping malls and factories, they want McDonalds and Jack in the Box and Pizza Hut. Of course anything American Fast Food, because of the stories the troops are telling them. We give them our old newspapers and magazines that you have been sending us and they are absolutely flabbergasted when they read them!

They want us to keep bringing them. They read every single page even the advertisements over and over! This would be a good time for media to get their magazines going over here because the Iraqis just love them.

So in short you see I will give you the straight scoop and keep you informed of what is up over here.

I will sign off for now and send this along. Thanks again to all of you for your support. My mailing address has changed. The older one is no longer working. I will tell you the new one as soon as we get it.

More National Guard Troops sent to Iraq

by unknown Wednesday, May. 05, 2004 at 10:01 AM

I think that it is really dumb that they are sending National Guard troops to Iraq. We need a new president and someone needs to kill BUSH so that one person would be dead instead of thousands of others! They should have never started war. That's dumb. Thanks. BYE.
