White House Prepares for Hurricane
The Associated Press
Wednesday, September 17, 2003; 1:59 PM
WASHINGTON - The White House is battening down the hatches as Hurricane Isabel approaches.
"We are working to secure items that may be blown away in the event of the high winds here," White House press secretary Scott McClellan said Wednesday. "This could include flags. It could include the awnings around the complex. Those will likely be brought down. We'll be checking the drains in the complex to be sure that they are clear."
President Bush received a briefing on Wednesday morning about Isabel, the storm expected to hit the East Coast on Thursday, by Tom Ridge, secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, and Mike Brown, director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. They talked about ways to ensure coordination among state, federal and local officials to assess damage and provide assistance, McClellan said.
He said federal officials are having video teleconference calls with state and local authorities, and FEMA has deployed liaison teams and equipment to areas the hurricane could damage to help coordinate response.
"Some of that propositioning included cots and food and water, generators - things of that nature," McClellan said.

GO FOR IT, ISABEL!!!

With the need of people sure to follow, this storm is the perfect opportunity for the anti-war activist community to unite their efforts and reach out to assist the working class with food, clothing and shelter. There will be churches there, their will be other volunteer group there, help those in need. will the anarchist and left-wing communites who were active in organizing against the war unite for this cause? This is a perfect time to spread the truth about our beliefs. Will the advantage be taken, or will another opportunity slip by?

I agree. This is especially true since the National Guard is not available. They are in Iraq. I will take your suggestion and run with it.

I bet they won't do a damn thing. They are all talk and no action. Yes, churches will be there. That's not even a question, they always are. Yes, other relief organizations will be there. they always are. Will activists show up? Maybe to loot. But actually helping their fellowman instead of talking about it? Right.
How many left-wingers and anarchist have built hospitals? I see lots of hospitals built by religious people. How many left-wingers and anarchist have already been preparing with food, etc for storms that are sure to come? I'm confident many religious and other relief organizations have had their plans in place for years just like they always have.
