Free Film Showing and Speakers. Garrick Ruiz, just returned, will speak about his experience working with the International Solidarity Movement in the West Bank, where he took part in a protest against the Apartheid Wall at which his ribs were broken by a soldier with the Israeli Occupation Forces. Also speaking is Emma Rosenthal, poet, writer, activist and educator. "Gaza Strip" is a documentary shot during the first months of the Palestinian Intifada.

"Gaza Strip" (2002, 74 minutes), a documentary, was shot during the first months of the Palestinian Intifada. It is an extraordinary and painful journey into the lives of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip struggling with the day-to-day trials of the Israeli occupation.

Garrick Ruiz just returned from working with the International Solidarity Movement in the West Bank, where he took part in a protest against the Apartheid Wall. During this peaceful protest, Garrick and other protestors were detained by the Israeli Occupation Force, Garrick's ribs were broken by one of the soldiers, and the protestors were told that they had to leave the Occupied Territories or be deported. This will be Garrick's first speaking engagement since his return to the U.S.

Emma Rosenthal is a poet, writer, educator and human rights activist. She's involved with Palestinian human rights activism in the L.A. area, as well as the founder of Cafe Intifada! and the Writing Empowerment Project. In addition to speaking about the conflict, she will read some of her poetry.

Speakers will be available to answer questions after the program.
