Electing Dean will obviously not solve all or even many of our nation's problems. But, if this kind of civic minded motivation could carry though from households to school boards to state houses, I think we could see some meaningful change.

The way I see it Dean has the "mo" right now and Kerry better get his act together if he wants to make a challenge. The rest of the field appears to be out of the race. I don't care much for Kerry and since we are ruled by a two party system the choice is going to come down to Bush or Dean, IMHO.
I heard him speak a couple of Sunday's ago and was impressed by much of his speech and the attendance. So I went to the Fireside Cafe (Portland, OR) last night on finding out more about Dean and his campaign.
I couldn't believe it -- I have been involved in political organizing and campaigns and I have not seen this kind of grass roots support and energy before, ever! The place was packed and full of Dean Cheerleaders. Yes, it was rah, rah, but not in a bad way. Ages ranged from 18-80 with of all types of people.
I met two very interesting gentlemen. The first was a Republican, Gulf War One vet who could not stand where Bush was taking us as a nation. The other person was an international Aid worker who had been in the Peace Corps and who had recently been working in Kosovo.
I got the impression that the motivation of the campaign and the sentiment went way beyond Dean and I hope it does. Electing Dean will obviously not solve all or even many of our nation's problems. But, if this kind of civic minded motivation could carry though from households to school boards to state houses, I think we could see some meaningful change.
And for that reason I am on board. I think you should be, too.
If you just can't stomach it then, by all means, create your own movement and invite me to visit. As far as the 2004 race for President goes I don't think you anyone stands a chance against Bush or Dean (see my post above). If you don't think the presidential race matters the don't bother back biting those of who do. It's my belief that this movement promotes the general values of those who subscribe to IndyMedia so please, don't look this gift horse in the mouth even if you don't like the looks of all his teeth.
Rah Rah!

Dean Said in the Washington Post (August 25th) that he wil not withdraw American troops from Iraq.
He, in the Tradition of the Democrats in Vietnam (Kennedy and Johnson), in El Salvador (Carter), will continue our policy of Imperialism--profit over people.
You guys would endorse the devil if he were a democrat.

Nadler endorses Howard Dean by Devlin Barrett ...Rep. Jerrold Nadler endorsed Democratic presidential contender Howard Dean on Sunday, saying he has shown he can energize the party's base and draw enough voters to defeat President Bush in 2004. The endorsement comes as Dean, the former governor of Vermont, is scheduled to hold a Tuesday night rally in Manhattan's Bryant Park to cap a cross-country campaign swing. "Dean has been the one candidate who has really been exciting people, exciting the base," said Nadler, who represents lower Manhattan and the Upper West Side. "He's telling the truth, and that's what we really need to beat George Bush." Nadler, a frequent critic of the Bush administration's homeland security strategies, said Dean would better protect the nation, especially its ports, and safeguard civil liberties. Dean is also receiving support from Judith Hope, former chairwoman of the state's Democratic Party. Karamargin ...Grijalva, a former Pima County supervisor, is the highest-ranking Arizona elected official to endorse Dean. "I'm supporting Howard Dean because I'm a great believer in the American dream," Grijalva told a crowd of about 500 at El Presidio Park. Dean, he said, will "reclaim that dream." As one of 22 Hispanic members of Congress, Grijalva's support could help Dean mobilize Hispanic voters Feb. 3, when Arizona, New Mexico and six other states go to the polls. Grijalva won election to the House of Representatives last year with 59 percent of the vote. Rybak jumped on the Howard Dean bandwagon Thursday, becoming one of the first big city mayors in the nation to endorse a Democratic presidential candidate. Rybak also became one of the first elected officials in the state to endorse one of the nine Democratic candidates, joining at a time Dean has been surging in the polls nationwide. "He's an extremely exciting Democratic candidate, which the country needs," said Rybak, who will be co-chair of the former Vermont governor's Minnesota campaign. "He's offering a positive vision instead of playing on our fears." SEE: http://www.startribune.com/stories/587/4067517.html

Of course Dean is going to get all kinds of significant moderate endorsements because, despite his anti-war rhetoric and liberal posturing, he is still basically a moderate democrat who will uphold the status quo, particularly with respect to domestic programs and the status quo. The dems merely put him in there to eclipse the popularity of Dennis Kucinich who is a little bit more to the left and had the possibility of mobilizing grassroots Americans and progressives. But as we know, the dems merely suck up to the rich and corporate interests just like the reps due, and it appears that Dean really poses no threat to said parties, so he's in there. I believe that in theory anybody can beat Bush at this point because there are more rational thinking Americans who will vote against his re-election since he has turned America into an armpit. Unfortunately, we have to worry not so much about the backwards racists and bewildered herd of this country who still support the idiot, but the powerful corporate and governmental forces that could possibly help him steal another election. But Dean isn't the one, and democrats shouldn't jump on his bandwagon just because he placates their fears of change and their desire for things to go back to "normal." I'm sorry people, but after the stolen election of 2000, 9-11, and the rape of Afghanistan and Iraq, America will never be normal again (as if it never was). Don't be afraid of change and look elsewhere for a candidate will real progressive ideas.

DO NOT, REPEAT: DO NOT cast a vote for him for this reason. A
presidential election is a serious matter, and not to be taken lightly.
Dean's rabid support for Israel nullifies any shred of moral decency in his
presidential campaign, and exposes his true colors.
