This section profiles past meetings of the Austin Mars Society.
Meeting of July 26, 2000.
The meeting took place at the Institute for Advanced Technology, and began at 7:10pm. Attending were Tim Crain, Chris Williams, Alan Weiss, Stephen DeVoy, Ben Yagman, Nathan Scharfe, Lynn Cooper, Tom Gunn, Michael Black, and Stephan Bless.

Nathan Scharfe was appointed scribe for the meeting and it was decided (10-0)for that heretofore all meetings should have scribes appointed as the first order of business.

Following introductions of the new members Yagman, Black, and Bless, elections were held, conducted by Mr. DeVoy, for the Presidency, Council Representative, and Chapter Contact. The outcome of the elections were the following:

President: Nathan Scharfe (10-0)for
Representative: Chris Williams (10-0)for
Contact: Tom Gunn (10-0)for

Congratulations to the new officers.

Following elections, the meeting was chaired by the newly elected president. The discussion moved to the topic of bylaws, for which Alan Weiss volunteered to draft a set of bylaws for submission to the group, and the group approved his offer (10-1).

Next, the group approved a plan to create levels of membership so as to delineate a member's activity in the group. It was decided that all present members should have provisional voting rights, and that any members who pay dues and participate in a subgroup may heretofore have such voting rights. Other "associate members" may have the benefit of reduced dues and all email priviliges without voting rights and without the obligation to participate in a subgroup. (unanamous)

A tentative plan for dues was created as follows:
Member level/voting member/associate member
High School/$10/$5
College/20/10
Member/25/15
Family(2 qualifying voters)/40/(n/a)

It was moved that voting for a treasurer to manage such dues be tabled for now.

A T-shirt design contest was commisioned to be placed on the web site. The contest will lead to T-shirts and polo shirts and other memorabilia to be available for purchase on the web site.

The meeting ended with an involved discussion of Stephen's artifical intelligence project. For more info regarding this project please contact Stephen.

It's a god-awful small affair
To the girl with the mousy hair
But her mummy is yelling "No"
And her daddy has told her to go
But her friend is nowhere to be seen
Now she walks through her sunken dream
To the seat with the clearest view
And she's hooked to the silver screen
But the film is a saddening bore
For she's lived it ten times or more
She could spit in the eyes of fools
As they ask her to focus on

Sailors fighting in the dance hall
Oh man! Look at those cavemen go
It's the freakiest show
Take a look at the Lawman
Beating up the wrong guy
Oh man! Wonder if he'll ever know
He's in the best selling show
Is there life on Mars?

It's on Amerika's tortured brow
That Mickey Mouse has grown up a cow
Now the workers have struck for fame
'Cause Lennon's on sale again
See the mice in their million hordes
From Ibeza to the Norfolk Broads
Rule Britannia is out of bounds
To my mother, my dog, and clowns
But the film is a saddening bore
'Cause I wrote it ten times or more
It's about to be writ again
As I ask you to focus on

Sailors fighting in the dance hall
Oh man! Look at those cavemen go
It's the freakiest show
Take a look at the Lawman
Beating up the wrong guy
Oh man! Wonder if he'll ever know
He's in the best selling show
Is there life on Mars?
