A Racist for Governor?

by Francisco Frias Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003 at 6:37 PM
mymailboxwontbeflooded@yahoo.com

*

When Arnold Schwarzenegger said that he wanted every person in California to have a fantastic job, I thought it was funny. However, hispanics should ask if his vision includes us. Until recently one could not accuse Arnold Schwarzenegger of being a racist, since he has not participated in the discussion of social and political issues on a public level, and besides, he doesn’t even vote in most elections. But he’s starting to smell like a racist.

If it were not for his Republican colleague Darrell Issa, an ardent supporter of proposition 187 and chief financer of the movement to recall Gray Davis, he wouldn’t have the opportunity to be a candidate. Additionally, the principal architect of proposition 187, Pete Wilson, is now in charge of Mr. Schwarzenegger’s campaign, and this Sunday let it be known that Arnold Schwarzenegger was for proposition 187 and voted for it. Also, a substantial part of Mr. Schwarzenegger’s support will undoubtedly come from people who would like to see proposition 187 instituted in the state of California, some of who actively work to bring this about. People who with all seriousness tell you that immigration is destroying the state of California.

Proposition 187, based on the erroneous belief that immigrants are the root cause of California’s problems, and that we simply use resources without contributing to the state, can be classified as patently racist and ignorant. The vast majority of Mexicans, and perhaps the majorities of other groups that come from Latin America, can classify ourselves in one of the following ways. We are illegal, or at one time we were illegal, or we have a parent who is or at one time was illegal, or we have a grandparent who is or at one time was illegal. An attack on the dignity of an illegal person is a direct attack on our own dignity for most of us, irrespective of our legal status.

However, let us discuss what we contribute. Let’s take the case of agriculture. It is the base of the economy of the state of California. It’s the sector of the economy that has the largest multiplier effect. It is largely sustained by the labor and the sweat of illegal Mexican immigrants. And I say largely because there are a lot of legal residents who work in this industry as well. These workers create a large part of the wealth of this state as well as a large part of the wealth of their native country through the remittances they send. And they have been doing it for decades. They cultivate and harvest the food Mr. Schwarzenegger eats, which must be a lot, and additionally they feed the nation as well as a considerable part of the world through their work. But Issa, Wilson, and Schwarzenegger along with legions of their supporters have the insolence to say that we do not contribute. That we are a problem. Please. Say that some of us are brown. That some of us don’t speak English. That some of us came to this country with little formal education. That some of us are illegal. All these things are true. And we have an expression which is an adequate response. So what? But to say that we are a charge upon the state and that we do not contribute is a lie designed to mask the fact that they are racists. After all, what did we come to this country for if not to work?

I've changed!

by Arnold Schwarzenegger Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003 at 6:53 PM

When I'm Governor of California, I'll let all the brown-skinned people remain here as long as they continue to do a good job cleaning up my home and the millions of dollars worth of commercial real estate I own along Santa Monica Blvd.

SHOOT IMMIGRANTS CROSSING OUR BORDERS

I agree with KOBE SBM.

I think every illegal European immigrant sneaking across the Canadian border should be shot in between the eyes.

The only reason Arnold Schwarzenegger is receiving any critism is because he has a "R" next to his name instead of a "D". If it weren't for that, he'd receive the regular Kennedy-Kennedy relative kiss-ass media questions.

Gee, why'd you do that for? Haven't you heard that the USA is a fascist state where workers are simply the puppets of the ruling class? It'd have to be better where you came from than this hell hole.

Besides we were told by KPC the fucking idiot (pardon the redundancy) that The People's Republic of China is better. Se below:

"WRONG! Apparel sweatshops in America are worse than in China BY FAR!"

http://la.indymedia.org/news/2001/11/12994_comment.php#76854

If apparel sweatshops are better ther, just imagine how much better the agricultural workers conditions are. If I were you, I'd head to China. Tell 'em KPC sent ya!

Regardless of the "R" or the "D," millionaire, poor, PhD or kindergarten grad, anyone who supports the denial of a fellow HUMAN BEINGs' rights to education and health makes me question their motives. All living creatures have a responsibility toward one another, despite what piece of paper they may hold. We don't need a governer who will deny these basic rights... it just breeds more hate. And we already have enough of that.

"Proposition 187, based on the erroneous belief that immigrants are the root cause of California’s problems, and that we simply use resources without contributing to the state, can be classified as patently racist and ignorant."

Wrong. ILLEGAL immigrants are ONE of the root causes. There's no racism involved. It's simple math. California taxpayers support MILLIONS of people who drain an inordinate amount of money from the system in the form of social services yet put a negligable amount back in the form of taxes.

It's simple math. It doesn't balance.

What's so hard or upsetting about this?

Its so funny that fascists like Frescunt talk about the "problem" of illegal immigration and its drain on the economy of america on one hand ...
Then on the other hand support a war in Iraq that costs about 1 billion dollars per week.
She would go so far as to mention that the LARGEST illegal immigrant population are CANADIAN.
These "illegals" pay taxes every time they buy somthing, and contribute to the economy by doing jobs that noone else wants.
But then again, why should we waste money here when there are so many other foriegn countries that we could invade and rebuild with taxpayer money.
(that the "illegals" are helping pay for)
Hey there bitch..

1- The title "ILLEGAL" has been bestowed on our fellow citizens-of-the-world by scared politicians and thier scared followers who are afraid Others will come and get our Stuff. Let's delve a little farther here into that word: are "illegals" criminals because they carry MALICIOUS intent? No. They are "criminals" because they've come in need of a better life; and all the scared people protecting their Stuff fenced them in with the words: ILLEGAL ALIEN. Like they're monsters from Mars.
2- Social problems do not boil down to simple math; and even arguing at that level, show me how it doesn't balance. They carry us as much as we carry them.
3- Just explain to me how you'd justify denying health and education to your own neighbor who pays for this life in so many different ways. If anyone is malicious, it's the individual who's forgotten that we all live under the same sky.

Just for beginners, what's wrong with someone protecting their "stuff"? These people are "illegal" because there are definite laws about people living in this country without citizenship, visas, special permits, etc. What part of that is throwing you? Certainly you aren't such a fool that you actually advocate the abolishment of all borders are you? This isn't a moral judgement of them. It's a matter of resources.

2- Social problems do not boil down to simple math; and even arguing at that level, show me how it doesn't balance. They carry us as much as we carry them.

Of course they do. That they carry us AT ALL is utterly assinine. Of course they don't carry us by any stretch of the imagination. And failure, the fact that you even bring up the almost neglicable sales tax that they pay shows that even your trailer-park intellect can admit that this is about all they contribute.

3- Just explain to me how you'd justify denying health and education to your own neighbor who pays for this life in so many different ways. If anyone is malicious, it's the individual who's forgotten that we all live under the same sky.

Bullshit. We do not live under "the same sky". Spare me your Joni Mitchell nonsense. People who do nothing to contribute to the upkeep and renewal of "my sky" should not share it with me. How about giving me your car for a few months since we all "drive on the same road". Or perhaps you'd like to pay my rent since we all "live in the same house". Your reduction of a problem of simple economics into some third rate ballad is embarrassing.

People in California are being sucked dry by all sorts of social parasites. Illegal immigration is only one example but it's a big one.

Obviously Frescunt is confused (as usual).
Everytime someone buys somthing in america, they pay a sales tax.
If an "illegal" works at a job with a fake SSN, they are paying federal and state taxes every week, yet will be unable to collect any tax refund.

You are so confused that you completely contradict yourself

illegals and taxes

by legal Monday, Aug. 18, 2003 at 8:29 PM

Is there a study that proves that undocumented immigrants take more than they contribute. I have known several and they all worked, and for low pay. I can speculate, and say there *may* be a population of welfare cases like you all have described, but, I have yet to meet such a person.

The people who benefit from undocumented labor are business, of course. Business has always been against tightening immigration controls. They're also against programs to help long term alien residents become citizens.

Also - regarding sweatshops. The "solution" is for people to buy fewer clothes, of better quality, at a higher price, and for the people who make them to get paid better. This, of course, implies protectionism. Mell, if the people left because the conditions are horrible, the prices at F21 would go up. Is that OK with you?

Eliminating a minimum wage would assure the creation of third world bantustans within the USA. I guess that works well if you're into living in a country similar to Apartheid South Africa, but I think most of us prefer something less odious.

math?

by anonymous Monday, Aug. 18, 2003 at 8:50 PM

That's a lot of math, isn't it?

Why not just look at the system as a whole? People say California is doomed because of "illegal immigrants," yet, California is a larger, more dynamic economy than all the other states. They say there's "too much immigration," yet, in the midwest, shrinking cities are advertising to get immigrants to move there. Without people, there's no economy.

by KOBE Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003 at 11:49 AM

The race issue is irrelevant. There are mexicans of all races (believe it or not!). The issue is ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, and its effect on the American economy. A California governor who supports more stringent border control will be able to take credit for easing school overburden, reducing Social Security fraud and identity theft, as well as the State unemployment figures.

Stating that Im biracial is simply to prove a point. Conservatism is no longer for the WASP middle class. It is also for the New Middle Class (in which all races are significantly represented now). There are now minorities in the Upper Class as well. In that context, there is a lot to lose by being apathetic towards illegal immigration.

We are not saying to open up the border but it is stupid to be running for governor for a state which most of its population is hispanic. If you would live one day in one of our country I am sure you would be fighting your way into this country just like everybody else. You know what the most ridiculous thing about this is?Arnold Schwarzenegger is is not even a North American. he is from some other country. He is NOT a North American. Whether you were born here or not, everybody deserves respect. He should not be running for governor if he doesn't want to accept that we are the number one minority group in the US. If whoever reads this doesn't agree, tough. That is the way things are.

Shut up, stupid bitch.

by Legal American Citizen Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003 at 6:21 AM

NO, we dont need your help right now, thank you very much. First of all, Europeans invaded ALL of the Americas, both North AND South. The Spanish were greedy, and attempted to take the whole of the Western Hemisphere for themselves. What did they do when they got here? They invaded the rich and ancient Maya, Inca, and Aztec lands, desecrated their temples, imported their diseases, and caused those cultures which had developed over hundreds of years to disappear altogether.

They melted down priceless artifacts and casted them into bouillon, then shipped them by the galleon full back to Spain. Today, you cant point to a single Hispanic world power. Mexico is rich in oil and resources, yet it cant seem to get it's act together. There is corruption, poverty, and an unstable government. Top that off with a majority Catholic population which comes with its own problems: little birth control, gullible and unproductive business leaders, lack of efficient industrialization, etc.

The result is mass ILLEGAL immigration into the United States. If they want to become citizens, there is a process in place to do that. The only reason Hispanics are a majority in the United States is because of ILLEGAL immigration, and a penchant for having 5 or more children per ILLEGAL family.

If you think that Americans will stand by idly and give over this great nation to you people, you had better think again. Aint gonna happen. Go and stuff THAT in your burrito.

No intente convencerme de que la inmigración ilegal sea buena para mi país.

by Legal American Citizen Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003 at 8:20 AM

Mi madre nació en Puerto Rico como ciudadano de Estados Unidos. Im también un mulato. No intente convencerme de que la inmigración ilegal sea buena para mi país.

Surprised? I thought so. You see, immigration is allowed in the United States, but ILLEGAL INVASION is not. You say you have decided that Im a child? BWAHAHAHA! Okay, a child with a Masters Degree in Computer Science, 4 state-of-the-art websites, an annual salary of over 100K , and my most cherished possesion? My US Citizenship. This whole immigration issue is not one of race, but one of National Security.

"IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT AND YOU ARE GETTING SCARED THAT WE ARE POPULATING "YOUR" COUNTRY WHY DON'T "YOU AMERICANS" HAVE MORE KIDS?"

Why? Because this country would become more like Mexico. Dirty, overpopulated, and corrupt. The people there have created an imbalance because of their overpopulation, and undereducation. People cannot find work, but because they foolishly multiplied like roaches, are obligated to find a way to support 9 kids and a fat wife. Catholicism forbids birth control and common sense, and the majority of Mexicans are Catholics. The United States separates Church and State. I have hopes that it will also separate LEGAL from ILLEGAL.

Stay the fuck in Mexico.

Y COMO MUJER HISPANA TU COMO HOMBRE SUPUESTAMENTE, ME HAS FALTADO EL RESPECTA LLAMANDOME UNA PUTA. TU SABES LO QUE ES ESO. ES UNA PERRA. YO COMO HISPANA Y TU COMO HISPANO NOS DEBERíAMOS RESPETAR. No deseo sonar pompous o racist.

Just look. Already, you have decided to post your message only in Spanish, and leave all of the readers on this thread who don't speak Spanish in the dark. The very least any Latino can do, if they desire to become a LEGAL citizen here in the US, is to learn to speak English. And even then, if you come here illegally, then you should be DEPORTED.

LO QUE TU DIGAS

by TU PALABRA CONTRA LA MIA Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003 at 10:58 AM

OK. IF YOU SAY SO. FINE. ALL I KNOW IS THAT A CITIZEN OR NOT, WE ARE ALL THE SAME IN THE EYES OF GOD. I AM NOT A SUNDAY TO SUNDAY CHURCH GOING PERSON, BUT I DO KNOW THAT MY PARENTS TAUGHT ME TO BE PROUD OF WHO I AM. I AM A LATINA AND I CAN'T AND WILL NEVER LET ANYBODY DISRESPECT ME IN THE WAY YOU DID. I GUESS THAT IS WHY I GOT REAL UPSET. HAVING YOU CALL ME A BITCH WAS JUST OUTRAGOUS. I THINK THAT IF THAT IS THE WAY YOU WERE RAISED, TO DISRESPECT SOMEBODY WHEN STATING AN OPINION, THAN OK. I WILL LET YOU BE. ONE I THING I DO KNOW THOUGH. ILLEGAL EVERYBODY ON THIS EARTH DESERVES RESPECT BECAUSE LIKE I SAID BEFORE. ONE: SOMEBODY HAD TO OPEN THE PATH YOU WALK ON. YOU WALK WITH YOUR NOSE IN THE AIR, BUT THERE ARE PEOPLE THAT HAD TO STAY AT THE BOTTOM FOR YOU TO REACH THE TOP. YOU MIGHT BE A SUCCESSFUL PERSON IN THIS LIFE, IN THIS WORL. BUT ALWAYS KNOW THAT UNFORTUNATLY NOT EVERYBODY IS AS FORTUNATE.

AND YES. YOU DO SOUND PREJUDICE/ RACIST. BUT I AM NOBODY TO YOU TO CHANGE YOUR WAY OF THOUGHT. JUST BECAUSE PEOPLE IN PR DON'T NEED TO STRUGGLE FOR A CITIZENSHIP, IT DOESN'T MAKE YOU ANY BETTER THAN EVERY OTHER HISPANIC THAT DID HAVE TO COME ILLEGALLY.

YOU THINK THAT PEOPLE WANT TO STAY ILLEGAL ALL THEIR LIFE. ALL EVERYBODY SAYS IS TO DEPORT ILLEGAL PEOPLE, BUT YET THE GOVERNMENT GIVE OUT ID NUMBERS FOR ILLEGAL RESIDENTS TO PAY TAXES. IN WHICH I KNOW PEOPLE WHO ARE ILLEGAL IN THE US WHO STILL PAY TAXES. AND VERY HIGH ONE MIGHT I ADD. IF YOU DON'T KNOW ANY, MAYBE YOU SHOULD LOOK AROUND EL PUEBLO HISPANO AND START REALIZING THAT THE HISPANIC COMMUNITY HAS COME A LONG WAY. WE HAVE COME FROM THIRD WORL COUNTRIES, THAT ARE NOW ENJOYING THE "AMERICAN DREAM". THAT IS ALL I AM SAYING. I AM PROUD OF WHO I AM. I KNOW WHERE I COME FROM AND THE STRUGGLE THAT MY PARENTS HAD TO GO THROUGH TO HAVE ME WHERE I AM TODAY. A SUCCESSFUL BUIESNESS WOMAN. LATINA. WHO IS PROUD OF HER HERITAGE AND IS RESPECTUL TO MY PEOPLE. UNLIKE YOU UNFORTUNATLY.

DIOS TE BENDIGA. AND HOPE YOU THINK ABOUT THE FOLLOWING: I HAVE STATED MY POINT OF VIEW. WITHOUT NEEDING TO USE CURSE WORDS. EVEN IF YOU CALLED ONE OF YOUR OWN KIND A BITCH (FEMALE DOG) BUT YOU KNOW WHAT, IT IS GREAT TO DEAL WITH PEOPLE LIKE YOU. IT JUST HELPS ME BE A LITTLE STRONGER.

HAVE A NICE LIFE. HOPE YOU NEVER HAVE TO COME ACROSS AN ILLEGAL ALIEN. HOPE AND PRAY TO GOD THAT YOU WILL NEVER NEED HELP FROM UN HISPANO.

Shut up, bitch...

by FA Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003 at 11:26 AM

"American Dream", my ass! All you people do is come here illegally and the first thing you do is create a little enclave that is exactly like the shit-hole you just left. Don't believe me? Take a stroll down to 7th and Alvarado, to that great piece of el salvador. What a toilet! If you don't get robbed, maybe you'll get shot by the MS.
If you're so damned educated, why do you write in all caps? I welcome all IMMIGRANTS, but ILLEGAL ALIENS (and you, of course) can go fuck themselves...

I am sorry I called you a bitch, okay?

by Legal American Citizen Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003 at 11:33 AM

I sincerely apologize. However my feelings are the same regarding illegals here in the US. Having served in the military, I realize that the same paths the illegals took to SNEAK into this country are open to potential terrorists. I dont want the government to issue ID cards for illegals to pay taxes. THEY SHOULDNT BE HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE. It doesnt matter if they pay taxes or not. Go through the process like everybody else, and I will welcome you with open arms. Having passed the Citizenship process means that the government has screened you and that you have passed the standard citizenship tests. If you want to SNEAK in, then you should be shot on sight.

I have needed help many times from Hispanics (my friends). Thing is, that they are all LEGAL CITIZENS. Either born here or passed citizenship.

I HAVE BEEN READING WHAT YOU GUYS HAVE BEEN WRITING TO EACHOTHER AND I FEEL VERY ASHAMED OF YOU PEOPLE. AS HISPANICS WE ARE SUPOSE TO STICK TOGETHER, NOT BE IN THIS TRYING TO PUT EACHOTHER DOWN. WHEN A HISPANIC IS VIEWED, PEOPLE DON'T SEE WHERE THEY ARE FROM, THEY SEE THAT WE ARE HISPANIC AND THE PEOPLE THAT WILL DISCRIMINATE WILL DISCRIMINATE. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHERE YOU ARE FROM. WE SHOULD STICK TOGETHER AND WE WILL BE ABLE TO DO MORE.

Ah...but you dont understand

by Legal American Citizen (KOBE) Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003 at 11:49 AM

Mi lealtad está a mi país, no a mi "herencia". Si qué usted está intentando decir es verdad, entonces todos los Americanos árabes deben ser Americanos de la no-Muselima de la matanza. Eso es lo que le dice su religión (que es también su cultura).

I am also half black. My Puerto Rican mother is a caucasian, not South American indian heritage. That's why I dont see any sense in choosing any sort of race-based or Latino based ideaology. I am an AMERICAN first, and anything else second. I say so on my website, and I feel it right to the center of my being. I refuse to get sucked into some religious, racial, or sociological compartment where I "owe" some special interest group.

I respect that. You know what, I might think and speak this way because I have seen from the rich tot he poor. I have friends who are citizens and I have friends who are not. I even have friends and even more than friends that are illegal here. but you know what? I respect them. I help who needs help.

just as my parents did when they came to this country. Yeah, that's right. My parents were both illegal when they came here. but they busted their butts to be able to have a home of their own. They are now citizens of this country and are well off. I am grateful to God primarily because if it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be enjoying the money I work hard for. You see in one hand the government wants all illegal people to get deported but yet they give id numbers to thousands of people to pay taxes. So we end up at the same place.

I agree that YES, There needs to be control with who comes in and out. I did loose a family member during the 9/11 attack. There needs to be some type of control. But if us as Hispanics don't stick together, who will keep us united? Nobody will. We yourself will destruct one another.

And to whoever is out there cursing and calling me a bitch... Why don't you just be mature and speak intelligently. Speak like a mature human being and not a 15 year old boy who think that by calling me a bitch will make me cry. Be a man and talk and state your opinion.

The End

by ok Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003 at 12:55 PM

I guess in order to fully understand, you really need to be with the problem. How can you relate if you have never been in those shoes? You can't. Therefore there isn't anything I can do but to live the way I have been taught. True, there should be security but all I am defending is that do not treat and do not speak about an illegal resident like a piece of trash. We are immigrants, hispanic or not. Just know that illegal immigrants do not want to be illegal. It is a hell of a life. Living in fear is not what people want but in order to have things in life, you need to work hard. You need to do what you have to do to survive.

Survival of the fitest. However you think of it. One way or another, we will achieve, not the American Dream, but our own dream. Like it or not. And I don't expect for you to change, but I truly hope your kids learn otherwise.

Racism gets you no where. Los hispanos vamos a sobresubir todo ustedes quien nos descrimina.

Why cant you figure it out???

by Legal American Citizen (KOBE) Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003 at 3:15 PM

Fighting against ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION has abso-fucking-lutely NOTHING to do with race. At least the blacks pull the race card when there is legitimate support of the argument that actions were or were not taken because race was a factor. With you illegals, you try to tie ILLEGAL ENTRY INTO THE UNITED STATES to a racial issue. I dont care if the illegals are Vietnamese, French, German, African or Martian. Coming here illegally is AGAINST THE LAW.

Everybody else has to wait 7 years, take tests, allow the government to make background checks, etc. You selfish losers are cutting the line. Then when you get to the front, you let all your friends and 13 children in too. Illegal immigration is killing California's economy. People who want free medical help have to wait behind 183 illegal Mexicans who are perpetually giving birth, or are infected with venereal diseases.

Get a fucking clue. Do I have to say it in Spanish?

The owner is aware that there will be activity and that people will be coming in and out of that door. So instead of fighting eachother, which that is what you and this other salvadoreña has been doing. You should be talking to people who is actually going to do something. ¡Dígalo tienen gusto de él es! You are SO right about that. Illegal aliens are making it bad for all the LEGAL Mexicanos who came here and actually went through the citizenship process. This whole issue is not a racial one, but a national security issue. Illegal immigration also applies to the Cubanos and Hatians who try to sneak in here by boat.

SHOOT THEM from the air, torpedo the boats, whatever they have to do. Treat them like an invading force as a deterrent for others who think we are kidding about this. Here-

Racial Correctness
California's highest-ranking Hispanic elected official is being slammed for accidentally uttering the 'N-word.' The backlash is not only paranoid, it's dangerous for interracial relations.

by Earl Ofari Hutchinson
Feb. 16, 2001

California Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante is in the midst of one of the worst scandals of his career. No, the state's second-highest-ranking elected official was not accused of child molestation, adultery, or influence peddling; he was accused of using the dreaded "N-word."
On February 13, in a speech to a group of black trade unionists, Bustamante was reciting a list of African-American labor organizations established in the early 1900s, many of which included the word "Negro" in their titles. While uttering one of those names, Bustamante let slip the word "nigger" instead of 'negro.' A handful of blacks in the audience stormed out in protest, and Bustamante has been apologizing up and down the state ever since.
A legion of black and Latino officials rushed to the defense of Bustamante, the state's first Latino lieutenant governor, citing his excellent record on affirmative action and relations with the African American community. Still, that hasn't saved the man from being momentarily shoved into the ignominious ranks of such notables as Cincinnati owner Marge Schott, Dodger executive Al Campanis, and a parade of other prominent whites who speared themselves with their mouths.
The difference, however, is that most of them deliberately uttered racist epithets that pandered to the most vile stereotypes about blacks. Bustamante, it seems clear, is guilty of nothing but an especially ill-timed slip of the tongue.
The colossal danger in lumping someone like him in with bigots is that it deepens racial resentments and heightens tensions. It forces many non-blacks to walk in mortal fear that if they say anything about blacks, no matter how trivial, they will be swiftly called on the carpet. That fear is already too well-founded: a Washington, DC city official briefly lost his job in 1999 because he used the word "niggardly" -- a term meaning miserly that has nothing to do with African Americans.
All of this also leaves blacks open to the charge that they propagate double standards on race. Black rappers, comedians and writers have made a virtual fetish out of using the word nigger, to no angry outcry from other blacks. Some black writers go through tortuous gyrations to justify using the word. They claim that they are cleansing the word of its negative connotations so that racists can no longer use it to hurt blacks. Comedian- turned-activist Dick Gregory had this in mind years ago when he titled his autobiography "Nigger."
Many blacks say they use the word endearingly or affectionately, as in "You're my nigger." Comedian Russell Simmons went to the outer limits of this racial self-flagellation when he said: "Twenty years ago 'nigger' was self-defeating. When we say 'nigger' now it's very positive."
Blacks' hypersensitivity to the same word in non-black mouths can in part be traced to the notion that everything that happens to African-Americans, from racially motivated hate attacks to police abuse, is part of an on-going orchestrated assault on blacks. Racial paranoia theories have been rampant since the urban riots of the 1960s. The conspiracy buffs claim that the ghettos were flooded with drugs, alcohol, gangs and guns, and that AIDS was deliberately imported during the 1980s. The "white establishment," the argument went, wanted to stop blacks from developing unity or strong political organizations and to self-destruct instead.
There is no evidence that any of this is true. However, an endless line of black politicians, ministers and sports icons know the drill well. Whenever they are accused of sexual hijinks, bribery, corruption, drug dealing, and even murder they reflexively shout that they are victims of a racist conspiracy. It's a well-worn but sure-fire crowd pleaser, because many blacks are conditioned to believe that anything whites, and now Latinos, do or say is evil and malicious. It's also another example of double standards, considering that the victims of the misdeeds of black miscreants are almost always other blacks.
The well-intentioned but naive Bustamante was the latest to get whacked hard by racial correctness. And as long as many blacks see racists behind every errant word uttered by a prominent figure, he won't be the last.

The Myth

by 1984IShere Friday, Sep. 05, 2003 at 7:12 PM

What is all this talk about undocumented Mexicans ruining California's economy? California has the greatest economy in the union, the 8th largest in world. Underfunded may they be, it is the leader in public universities, the most innovative and dynamic; and apartheid segregated may it be, it is the leader in ethnic-racial diverity. If the rich paid the same taxe rate as the poor, apartheid ended and funding went to education instead of prisons, this place would be paradise. The right knows this. And that's what scares the shit out of them.

RAcist

by Joe Tuesday, Sep. 09, 2003 at 7:26 PM

I am hispanic myself, my parents were born in the US as well as my grandparents as well as my great grandparents and it goes all the way back to when Spain was in control of mexico and the whole southwest of what is now the US. None of my family had to come here illegally and I am proud to be an american and I hate to see these people coming here and desecrating our country. Most other latinos will think that I am wrong for not backing up illegals just because they are the same race as me but the way I see it is if they are wrong then I will say they are wrong weather they are the same race as me or not.. Who is this dum broad in here saying that we should stick together? I will satand behind a latino when he is right but If he is wrong then I will let it be known that he is wrong, I wont try to make excuses for him just because he is the same race as myself. Also if some one is right weather they be white, black , asain, Austrian, etc. I will stand behind them as well. I dont use race to manipulate things and I dont give any special treatment which is what alot of these people supporting illegals want

....."ILLEGAL immigrants are ONE of the root causes. There's no racism involved. It's simple math."
SIMPLE MATH EH?

2- Social problems do not boil down to simple math; and even arguing at that level, show me how it doesn't balance.

So which one is it there, brainiac?
Simple or not simple?
ROFL
-----------------------------------------------

Hey dumbfuck, that #2 was something she was quoting from the previous poster and then responding to, not something she wrote.

Personally, I've had and continue to have friends of every race color and creed. We simply do not want illegal aliens eating our resources and contributing nothing (no, the fruit picking is not balancing out the free medical care etc). Those of you who are fine with illegal immigration are the racists who want a latin majority no matter how far down the toilet it drags this country. Why not stay in your Mexico and fix it? Because you can't, you just want to come here and suck this country dry and make it another shithole like Mexico. Sorry, but we'll fight that tooth and nail, and if you don't like it, too fucking bad.

"We?"

by Jack Scrappa represents who? Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003 at 5:20 PM

If you're going to say "we" please define who you represent! It's certainly not me or any of MY friends-of- all-races. I'm all for educating and caring for those who need medical help regardless of citizenship or immigrant status. I'm not even Mexican, so when you tell me to go back home, it's a bit ridiculous. I've never even been to Mexico. So stop acting like--and don't even begin to think that--you're some kind of Voice of the Majority.
