Memorial Bike Ride: Sunday August 10th 6pm, Palm Springs

Please join us in a memorial assembly for Raymond Moore and Lyle Rosser. Raymond Moore and Lyle Rosser were killed by a drunk driver on Highway 62, Monday, August 4th. It was the third day of their professional cross-country bicycle tour.

We will meet at the Palm Springs Community Center at the corner of Palm Canyon and Alejo for a short bike ride in the honor of the two cyclists. We will be assembling to raise awareness of the following facts:

—over 700 cyclists are killed every year by cars
—over 51,000 cyclists are injured by cars each year
—47,000 people are killed each year in car accidents

Here's the coverage we've received by the Desert Sun:

Bike ride to honor two cyclists killed

PALM SPRINGS -- A memorial bike ride will be held Sunday in honor of two cross-country cyclists killed by a drunken driver on state Route 62.

Raymond Moore, 72, of Anaheim and Lyle Rosser Jr., 60, of Reseda were walking their bicycles up a highway grade west of Yucca Valley at 1:15 a.m. Sunday when they were struck by an eastbound pickup.

The men were on the third day of a cross-country bicycle tour, said Mary Nally, organizer of the memorial.

Bicyclists will meet at 6 p.m. at the Palm Springs Community Center at the corner of Palm Canyon Drive and Alejo Road for a short ride. Nally said the assembly is designed to educate both cyclists and motorists about safe driving.

Hope to see you there.

My Heart Goes Out to the Families

by builder123 Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003 at 1:53 PM

I lost a friend and fellow cyclist, Kellie Wilson to a drunk driver in spring of '94. Just though I mention it.

I'm sorry to hear that. Unlike that immature idiot Mitchell Crooks who tells us that he routinely drinks and drives, unfortunately this is a sad reminder that alcohol and driving don't mix. Don't do it!!

Although the tragic deaths of Lyle and Ray should have been avoidable, at least their dream is not dead with them. Two men have taken up the challenge and are riding coast to coast in their honor. See www.atrekeast2003.com for details.
Lyle and Ray's families appreciate the compassion and good will these men are showing. Cheer them on as they pass your way!
