House meeting on Marijuana produces eloquent speech from both parties, and more stupid Republican scare tactics than one can stand.
Representatives Rohrabacher and Paul stood up to their fascist party today by calling for Medical Marijuana rights. The ammendment sponsored by NY Representative Hinchey, a democrat, and Rohrabacher, a brave man indeed, simply banned the Justice Department from raiding medical marijuana patients or providers.
Remarkably, the most eloquent statements came from the aforementioned brave Republicans. Especially Representative Paul who spoke out of compassion from experiences of being a doctor. Presidential candidate Kucinich also valiantly defended the bill and made the Republican right appear frighteningly out of touch with mainstream America. There were many things left unsaid, and many things repeated to the detriment of democracy and good television.
Firstly, while the Republican majority against this ammendment was screaming of Marinol, no one bothered to counter with the substantive evidence that Marinol is not always effective and often too high a dose for the patient to enjoy life without sleeping.
Secondly, they stressed that it was a viable alternative when many of these patients cannot hold down pills.
Above that they repeatedly referred to "Americas children on drugs," which they didn't mention includes the president's twins.
It was like watching someone playing to superstitions, and all the while licking their chops at the pharmecuitical contributions. No one mentioned the effects of Ritalin overprescription, although some made the case that since morphine was legal, why not pot?
Still, often in the conversation, the most remarkable thing happened, people conceded, on both sides, to the failure of the drug war, and the infringement on Liberty.
Amazing. A valid debate, that ended in a total stalemate. Nonetheless, it leaves me with no doubt that Dennis Kucinich is a great man. And, that not all Republicans are complete assholes, but the ones that are, are definately Republicans.
There are some scary uninformed people with bad tupees in our House of Representatives. They are uneducated about the reality of life because they spend their time being coddled by lobbyists. The only true argument the Republicans had was that the National Order of Narcotics Officers and the Fraternal Order of Police disagreed with the bill. Well duh, it would expose how lazy they are going after slow stoners and allowing things like 9/11 to happen.
The situations in the House of late and the coverups and horrible things this administration has allowed to happen will go down in history as the blackest days of this country.
I urge you all, as Americans, who have an ideal and once loved this land because we could breathe free of tyrrany, to rise up, and scream, at the doors of the Senate and House, scream, for days and days, until justice in some semblance is restored. For if you say nothing, you're next when you do.
