The Librarian's Guild, which is a member of CLDC, has asked the Los Angeles Board of Library Commissioners to adopt a resolution asking for the repeal of the unconstitutional parts of the so-called Patriot Act and providing that signs warning about the fact that the federal government can secretly access individuals' library records be posted in LA Libraries. The Board of Library Commissioners will vote on the resolution at their next meeting, which is scheduled for 11 am, Thursday, July 10.
It is extremely important that the Board of Library Commissioners adopt the Librarians Guild's resolution. The Head Librarian has introduced her own resolution, which is weaker and does not require the libraries to post signs informing the public of the effects of the so-called Patriot Act. How the Board of Library Commissioners votes will influence the way the LA City Council regards the resolution that CLDC will ask them to pass.
