July 8th: PICKET LINE AT THE LA TIMES IN RESPONSE TO 6/27 HEADLINE LINKING OVERTURN OF SODOMY LAW WITH "MOLESTATION"

The Issue: 1. The June 27 print edition of the LA Times was laid out in such a way as to create an association, intended or not, between the Supreme Court's decision to strike down sodomy laws and the release of alleged sexual predators into California communities. The decision against sodomy law and the decision against retroactive changes in statutes of limitation were, in fact, separate.
2. We want comprehensive coverage of the Supreme Court decision against sodomy law and the implications for personal liberty, including association, as they relate to broader issues than "gay sex."
3. We want comprehensive coverage by the LA Times of the transgender, lesbian, bisexual, and gay communities in all of their racial, gender, class, political and religious diversity.
4. We want the LA Times to put itself in dialogue with the transgender, lesbian, bisexual, and gay communities to insure a deeper understanding of the issues and facts concerning those communities that a responsible paper, based in Los Angeles, ought to cover.

Location:
Meet in front of the Los Angeles Times offices, the First Street entrance, between Spring and Broadway streets in downtown Los Angeles. The building is across from the Civic Center.
Metro:
the closest Metro station is at First and Hill, the Civic Center/Tom Bradley station, it's one block from the LA Times building.
Parking:
We recommend that you park in the parking lot on Second Street, between Spring & Broadway, the cost is a flat rate of $3 after 4:00pm.
There are 3 entrances to the lot, one on Second, one on Spring and one on Broadway. It's on the other side of the LA Times building from our protest site but street parking at that time is non-existent.
