SPECIAL REPORT • Interactive: Timeline • Map: Occupied lands • Interactive: Key Players • Gallery: Mideast lands • Map: Special Report AFULA, Israel (CNN) -- A suicide bomber killed at least three people Monday at a shopping mall in northern Israel, police said. It was the fifth terror attack in the region since Saturday -- the day top Israeli and Palestinian leaders met for the first time in more than two years.
Forty-seven people were wounded in the latest bombing in the town of Afula. Thirteen of the wounded were in serious condition, an Israeli police spokesman said.
Palestinian sources said the suicide bomber was a 19-year-old woman from a village near Jenin in the northern West Bank. The blast was set off after she was confronted by a security guard at the entrance to the Ha'amakin shopping mall. The security guard was one of the victims.
Two radical Islamic groups claimed responsibility -- the Islamic Jihad and the al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, the militant wing of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement.
The blast at the mall came hours after a young Palestinian man riding a bicycle blew himself up in Gaza, killing himself and lightly wounding three Israeli soldiers, Israel Defense Forces said. That attack took place near the Jewish settlement of Kfar Drom. Izzedine al Qassam, the military wing of the Islamic militant group Hamas, claimed responsibility for the attack.
Both Islamic Jihad and Hamas are considered terrorist organizations by the U.S. State Department.
The recent spate of attacks has killed 12 victims since Saturday night, when an Israeli man and his pregnant wife were killed in a suicide bombing in the West Bank town of Hebron.
In Jerusalem on Sunday, seven victims were killed in a suicide bombing on a bus. Also Sunday in eastern Jerusalem, a suicide bomber blew himself up, causing no other casualties. The bombings prompted Israel late Sunday to close its borders to the West Bank, blocking Palestinians from entering Israel.
The wave of violence has coincided with a meeting in Jerusalem between Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas, popularly known as Abu Mazen. The nearly three-hour talks Saturday night about the so-called road map to Mideast peace was the first time top Palestinian and Israeli leaders had met in two and a half years.
The road map -- backed by the United States, the European Union, the United Nations and Russia -- envisions an end to the conflict and the creation of an independent Palestinian state by 2005.
An Israeli official said it was "obvious" the terror attacks were connected to the meeting. "The timing of these efforts can't be [coincidental]," said Israeli Cabinet minister Ehud Olmert, the former mayor of Jerusalem. "It's part of an effort by the terror organizations to prove to the whole world ... that the government of Abu Mazen is not in control."
Palestinian Foreign Minister Nabil Sha'ath said Israeli acceptance of the road map is key to controlling and ending the violence. Unlike Abbas, Sharon has not yet publicly accepted the plan.
"Once that commitment from Israel comes, we will all work together in order to achieve a full and immediate cease-fire, not through a civil war with Palestinians, but through a full commitment of the Palestinians," he said.
At the talks, Sharon urged the Palestinians to do more to fight terrorism before proceeding with the road map, said Ra'anan Gissin, a senior adviser to Sharon.
The Israeli military appeared to be holding back from major activities against terrorist attackers, CNN's Jerrold Kessel reported, saying Sharon didn't want to destabilize the new Palestinian government and that he would meet with Abbas again.
In addition, Sharon's Cabinet has decided on an Israeli boycott of any foreign dignitaries who meet with Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat, a senior Israeli official told CNN. The official, who did not want to be named, said any foreign dignitary who meets with Arafat "undermines" Abbas and will not be allowed to meet with any Israeli official.
In the wake of the bombings, Sharon has postponed a planned trip to meet with President Bush to discuss the road map.
Bush said Monday he was confident the Mideast peace process could move forward and vowed he would not abandon the road map despite the bombings. "It's going to be a bumpy road, but I'm not going to get off the road until we can achieve the vision," Bush said.
"I have confidence we can move the peace process forward," he said. "It's clear there are people there who cannot stand the thought of peace."

"He is commiting genocide with weapons given to him by the US"
First of all, learn how to spell or at least type you fucking idiot. Secondly, give me some examples of this genocide you speak of. And look it up first. It has a very definite meaning scumbag and it looks like you don't know what it is. And finally, how many more people have to die at the hands of these fucking subhuman savages that you call "palestinians". And it's not just those fucking monsters in Hamas and Islamic Jihad. It's every fucking animal who glorifies and celebrates these cretins. How many people have to die before you realize that your heroes are fucking MONSTERS? Christ, I can't imagine being such a heartless and hateful person like yourself that you can actually walk around with so much hatred for a group of people. And before you get all excited, I DON'T hate muslims or Arabs. But I fucking LOATHE every Christian, Muslim, Jew, Arab or European who defends or supports this disease of a culture.
You sit there and pass judgement on a people because it's fucking hip. You think it's the cool thing to be pro-palestinian. You don't give a fuck about these people anyway. If you did you'd be screaming about the treatment they get in Jordan and Lebanon. Or you'd be screaming about slavery in Sudan or Gays being slaughtered in Saudi Arabia. But at the end of the day, you just hate Jews, so, therefore you root for the "palestinians".You're a fucking monster.

I did not mention the word Jew and I do not hate jews . I also did not mention Hezbela or Islamic Jihad. You see whats the difference between one person strapping on some tnt and blowing themsevles up or the Isreal army attacking palastians with F-15s and Appatche helicopters. Sharon is a killer just like Hezbela, only difference is he has the 2nd biggest military thanks to the gold US of A. You only show your own ignorance if you want me to give you examples of gennocide. I mean come on the Isrealie military are just like the German Soldiers in Poland in WW2 . I mean the German soldiers called the Polish resistance terrorists or animals too. The difference between you and me is that I am willing to look at what is actually happining and not just what the Corporate media is spinning. They don't show you the whole picture. They only show you when a suicide bomb goes off. Not once have they show what everday life is like for the palastians in the occupied territory. They can't even leave their house without fear of being shot. They can't even sleep at night without worring if their house will be bulldozed while they are sleeping. What is it with you right wingers who think that if we hate Sharones policies of Gennocide than we hate Jews and love hezbela. We hate extremists on both sides!

"I mean come on the Isrealie military are just like the German Soldiers in Poland in WW2"
You are either incredibly uninformed, amazingly stupid or are just plain evil if you are honestly trying to compare the tactics of the IDF defending Israel against terror to that of wholesale slaughter and systematic erasure of an entire race of people. You've reduced your argument to absurdity. I'll be the first to say that Sharon should go. So should the settlements. Israel needs to be the side to make the overtures. But that in no way means they should not defend themselves with extreme prejudice against any force that continually tries to annihilate them. You may think you look deeper into this issue, but your playing follow the leader. Your ignorance is a disease.

No they are not using ovens but what do you call buldozing houses! Do you honeslty think that if the palastians had one shred of hope for a better life that Hezbela would have young kids lining up to be suicide bombers. Do you honeslty belive Bush when he says they hate us cuase they hate freedom. That is a lie. The dictators in the middle East we support hate freedom, because if their people had freedom to choose their own leader they would not be in power. Pakastan, Saudi Royal Family, Egypt, Jordan are all run by dictators and in all cases their is a huge gap between rich and poor. There are nine Billonares in the Saudi Royal Family! Their economy is in a shambles with hudge deficites and there is 25 % unemployment . Sharon is trying to eliminate the palastian race no doubt about it. Didn't they call it Gennocide when Miloshivich forced the Alabanians out. They are putting up more and more settelments untill there will not be any way to create a palastinian state and then they will be forced to move or live under a South African style Apartide.

...but what do you call buldozing houses!"
In all the accounts I've read of Auschwitz, Belden, and the other dead Jew factories, I never saw an account of the Germans going into the ovens first and warning everyone to get out before they fired 'em up.
Bad analogy; try again.

Saying you don't get it would be a gross understatement. "Clueless" would seem to be the appropriate term.
The Israelis have tried every possible approach seeking peace with the Arabs. Getting tough is only the latest approach. Little wonder. Read the Hamas press release from two days ago:
"These attacks will continue in all the territories of 1948 and 1967, and we will not stop attacking the Zionist Jewish people as long as any of them remain in our land." Hamas considers all of Israel as occupied territory
The words come from a statement issued on Monday morning by the armed wing of the militant group Hamas.
Hamas refused to have anything to do with the latest plan for peace in the Middle East - the so-called roadmap.
