Physicians for Social Responsibility - Los Angeles is hosting a Town Hall meeting on the intersection between terrorism and weapons of mass destruction in our lives. These issues are raised in Avoiding Armageddon, the PBS series from Ted Turner Documentaries that just aired on KCET. Avoiding Armageddon presented an global look at the dramatic human stories that convey the terrible consequences of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons, their connection with terrorism, as well as the hope that the world can still choose to avoid Armageddon.

Robert A. Beaudet, PhD, expert in chemical and biological warfare, chemical agent detection and monitoring, destruction of chemical munitions, and related treaty issues, professor and former chair of the Chemistry Department at the University of Southern California and staff member of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). He served on several Presidential Science Advisory Council Panels, the National Academy of Science/National Research Council Panel for the Detection of Chemical Agents, the Technical Advisory Committee for CW Treaty Verification Group and chaired the National Research Council's Committee on Review and Evaluation of Alternative Technologies for Demilitarization of Assembled Chemical Weapons.
Peter Katona, MD, FACP, bioterrorism expert, Professor of Clinical Medicine, Infectious Disease Division, UCLA School of Medicine, member of the LA County Task Force on Health Services Preparedness for Bioterrorism, UCLA Task Force of Bioterrorism Preparedness, LA County Terrorist Early Warning (TEW) Group, California Bioterror Preparedness Committee and chairs the Bioterror Committee of the Infectious Disease Association of California (IDAC). He co-founded Biological Threat Mitigation (BTM), a bioterror consulting firm.
Danielle Babineau, State Political Director, California Peace Action, expert on policy change
To prevent what cannot be cured, PSR-LA, with 3,000 doctors, health professionals and diverse communities of southern California and 25,000 members nationwide, works toward a socially just world, free from violence, weapons of mass destruction and environmental health threats to human health. PSR-LA is part of the U.S. affiliate of International Physicians for the Prevention Nuclear War which received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1985.
