A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quick download (3.3MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. Netherlands, Russia, Spain, and Cuba.

Dear Radio Friend,

The latest Shortwave Report (April 18) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality 13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:10) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.

This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org

There are several other streams that work better- http://members.cruzio.com/~frsc/ Freak Radio Santa Cruz (96.3fm) streams this program on Friday at 5:35pm (PST) and on Monday at 9amPST.

Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.rinku.zaq.ne.jp/bkaec205/

streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.

And the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio

This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, the Voice Of Russia, Spanish National Radio, and Radio Havana Cuba.

From Netherlands- As the US invasion of Iraq nears completion, the question of who is in charge of the oil reserves is coming into focus. Which oil companies will get contracts and who will receive the money is being speculated on at this time.

From Russia- Russia’s Foreign Minister has been speaking to the UN about rebuilding Iraq and the US threats to Syria. Then a commentary about Sec of Defense Rumsfelds remarks that the so-called liberation of Iraq reminded him of the fall of the Berlin Wall- a comparison that brought outrage to many in Europe. The sound quality is rough, but the story is important.

From Spain- a press review covering the aftermath of the invasion of Iraq and the US threats to Syria. The Argentine President is very critical of the war on Iraq and the UN Human Rights vote on Cuba. In Columbia, the President has rejected demands from the leftist rebels to reestablish a DMZ for the exchange of prisoners. Israel has tightened restrictions on Palestinians for Passover, and Palestinians say the agreed upon rebuilding of Jenin has not begun.

From Cuba- Antiwar protestors fought with police in Athens, at the site of the EU summit. The looting of the Iraq National Museum was anticipated weeks ago, and many individuals and governments had asked the US to prevent this from occurring. Then a Viewpoint comparing the Invasion of Iraq to the invasion of N America.

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!

--I have noticed that as soon as you have soldiers the story is called history. Before their arrival it is called myth, folktale, legend, fairy tale, oral poetry, ethnography. After the soldiers arrive, it is called history.
