We medicate and eventually lock up people who do not feel guilt.
But those soldiers who feel guilt are called cowards and traitors and laughed at for their medical complaints.

Get a clue, Dr. W.
I am a war protestor. I have been protesting since the 1960's. I also volunteer at the VA hospital in LA - the one on Wilshire by the 405. Your quote as follows, makes me ill:
"But those soldiers who feel guilt are called cowards and traitors and laughed at for their medical complaints. "
Do you know how many soldiers I have talked to over the years who were awarded the Purple Heart for bravery and who feel guilt over what they saw, what they did and what happened? You fuck, these men are NOT cowards and are NOT traitors. They are human beings who have seen the horrors of war up front and very mother-fucking personal. They have been there and done that. Fuck you. You have no clue about what you are talking about.
Laughed at for their medical complaints????? Well, I don't know what VA Hospital you have been in lately, but there sure as shit is not any laughing at these men who are ill and injured. You are sick. What an insult to the soldiers I have met. Many of them have injuries from which they will NEVER recover.
Just because I am a Peace Activist does NOT mean that I see our disabled American soldiers in a bad light. Some of these "men" are boys who were 18, 19 or 20 years old when they went to foreign shores in the name of this country. They have seen more in those early years of their lives than you will ever see let alone understand.
FUCK YOU, WATSON. YOU ARE AN IDIOT.
Let me let you in on a little info. Yes, the Vets know I have potested war over the years and, guess what? Some of the Marines invited me to the annual Marine birthday party...and I went.
People are people, Watson. Labels suck. I don't give a shit if they are or were military...and they don't give a shit that I am a war protestor. We are all people.
Go crawl back under your fucking rock, you Idiot.

Oddly enough, I think Dr. Watson may share your concern for the plight of sick war veterans.
I didn't take his comments - "But those soldiers who feel guilt are called cowards and traitors and laughed at for their medical complaints." - to mean that soldiers don't feel guilty. Of course many do. Who wouldn't when dealing firsthand with death, pain and suffering?
I didn't take his comments to mean that these men are cowards or traitors, just that they are often treated as such IF they express feelings of guilt or complain about war-related medical problems.
I sense your anger, and I think I know where you're coming from. Serving in the military can be dirty business, especially when you're fighting not for the defense of the United States, but for corporate profits, or a skewed worldview. And there are certainly plenty of peace demonstrators who can't separate protesting against the war from protesting against the soldiers who are serving, but you and I are not one of them.
I for one will be happy when our veterans are treated with dignity and the government owns up to the reality of illnesses caused by our use of depleted uranium in the first Gulf War and Kosovo.
I encourage you to tell your friends at the VA about Veterans for Peace.

Well I didn't want to belabor the point. Actually I have known quite a few veterans, and shared my home with a few too. Our governments treatment of veterans is terrible, what's worse, in my humble opinion, is ROTC liars trying to trap more young people into potential deadly situations.
Given the rah-rah performance by suburban miltiary nuts and media outlets returning veterans might not have the chance to explore the impact of their deeds, and when it bubbles up anyways--as it no doubt will-- how then are we going to respond? I don't think their needs are being included in the Bush world of tax cuts and natl. security sacrifices. I expect many of them will be cut loose to drift aimlessly ...

1. The anti-war movement supports our troops by urging that they be brought home immediately so they neither kill nor get killed in a unjust war.
How has the Bush administration shown its support for our troops?
a. The Republican-controlled House Budget Committee voted to cut
billion in veterans benefits over the next 10 years.
b. The Bush administration proposed cutting 2 million from
impact aid programs which provide school funding for children of
military personnel.
c. The administration ordered the Dept. of Veterans Affairs to stop
publicizing health benefits available to veterans.
