Marines hold Iraqi nuclear site

by Carl Prine - Tribune Review Friday, Apr. 11, 2003 at 8:02 AM

Investigators Tuesday discovered that Al-Tuwaitha hides another city. This underground nexus of labs, warehouses, and bomb-proof offices was hidden from the public and, perhaps, International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors who combed the site just two months ago...

SOUTH OF BAGHDAD — In a valley sculpted by man, between the palms and roses, lies a vast marble and steel city known as Al-Tuwaitha.

In the suburbs about 18 miles south of the capital's suburbs, this city comprises nearly 100 buildings — workshops, laboratories, cooling towers, nuclear reactors, libraries and barracks — that belong to the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission.

Investigators Tuesday discovered that Al-Tuwaitha hides another city. This underground nexus of labs, warehouses, and bomb-proof offices was hidden from the public and, perhaps, International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors who combed the site just two months ago, until the U.S. Marine Corps Combat Engineers discovered it three days ago.

Today, the Marines hold it against enemy counter-attacks.

Even if true...

by Diogenes Friday, Apr. 11, 2003 at 9:59 AM

...it still provides no justification for the War as Saddam never represented a threat to the U.S. nor made any Threats against the U.S.

However, our Sattelite Intel equipment is good enough to detect a site such as this. With Infrared and Radiation detection equipment standard it would have stood our like a sore thumb. So, the only conclusion one can draw is that, if true, the information was intentionally withheld so as to provide justification after the fact.

Needless to say the Weapons Inspectors were not "in the loop". The danger there would have been if discovered and destroyed - no more justification.

As for the Weasel...

by Diogenes Friday, Apr. 11, 2003 at 10:21 AM

...it totally missed the key point, not surprising, that since if this site does exist, as represented, and the information was not shared with the Weapons Inspectors then it proves that:

A. It was being held in reserve for after the fact justification.

B. That Weapons of Mass Destruction© 2003 (The White House) was never the issue.

Therefore: The War was conducted for some other reason(s).

Corollary: The War Supporters were taken for the Suckers they are once again.

Here's The Thing

by apresentfromallofus Friday, Apr. 11, 2003 at 10:30 AM

>I'm so impressed

You should be.

See, here's the thing. You and Diogenes and some others on here, for some reason that none of us knows, have somehow reached a conclusion (not based on any foundation of reality) that what you have to say is worth something. Where you got this idea is a mystery to us all, but most likely, like all the fantasies you conjure up here at LA-IMC, you dreamed this one up, too. Now, we entertain your ideas and laugh at you and things like that, but outside this little corner of cyberspace, in the real world where things really matter, you're both way behind the curve. It was strike three before you even came up to bat. That you don't recognize that is not our problem. So, we're here, were gonna laugh at you, we're gonna let you throw your temper tantrums, we'll toy with you and amuse ourselves with how easily we can play you like a cheap violin. But, at the end of the day, we stuff you back into the box until we want to play with you again. You don't like being marginalized in this way, but again, that's not our problem. You're the toy. You don't get a say.

I already told you, I'm better at the debating and the insults than are you. And you'll both go back into the box when I'm done.

Let's see, you wanted no war in Iraq. You missed that one. No Bush for president. Missed that one. No Ashcroft for Atty General. Missed that one. No war against the Taliban. You missed that one. No Taft-Hartley with the ILWA. You missed that one. Bunches of others lately. All missed.

But, what you have to say is REALLY important. Oh, yeah. Keep it up. We're ALL listening to ya. Just like we have been.

Believe what you want.

Considering the average level of intelligence among Marine Corps lifers, in the unlikely event one of them ever found an atomic bomb in Iraq he'd probably push the button that said "activate" - even if it was in English.

You all say you support the troops, but the turn around and insult them. They are fighting and some are dying for you. You ungreatful worthless pieces of shit. I have friends in the Marines. They have gone through college and are much more smarter than you assholes. One thing you have to realize is that your Opinions do not count. You might be taken seriously in a mental institution. If you go in there ranting and raving that the government is lying to us, that corporate media is lying, and that you are in possession of spy equipment that enables you to claim that Iraq doesn't have WMD and would love to be a human shield for Saddam, you just might win some support, but in the real world, in reality, you are just looked at as the scum of the earth. You probably show up here to vent your anger.

Marines Fighting for Me

by Meyer London Friday, Apr. 11, 2003 at 1:11 PM

Well, they can save themselves the trouble; I don't need their help. Actually, they are dying and killing for oil company profits, to help Bush's political career, and because they couldn't find a job doing anything else in this economy - largely due to the policies of Bush. If you had lived in Germany in 1942 you would have been the kind of fool who said "we have to support the boys at Stalingrad. They are their for us. Besides, Stalin is a dictator and many Soviet bootlickers greeted our troops with flowers." By the way, those helmets the "boys" have been wearing since the early eighties certainly are appropriate - they look just like the kind the SS wore.
By the way, the US military had plenty of weapons of mass destruction at Pearl Harbor in December of 1941. So maybe you think the Japanese were justified in that little adventure in pre-emtive war as well.

by daveman Friday, Apr. 11, 2003 at 11:51 PM

"...the US military had plenty of weapons of mass destruction at Pearl Harbor in December of 1941..."

No, they didn't. A big honkin' pile of conventional munitions, but no chemical, biological, or nuclear weapons.

"Considering the average level of intelligence among Marine Corps lifers..." Do you know any Marines? Didn't think so. But not knowing anything about a subject apparently has never stopped you before.

"...because they couldn't find a job doing anything else in this economy - largely due to the policies of Bush." Got anything to back this up? Didn't think so. But not knowing anything about a subject apparently has never stopped you before.

I'm starting to see a trend here: not knowing anything about a subject apparently has never stopped you before.
