Apology

by Former Democrat Thursday, Apr. 10, 2003 at 6:25 AM

The truth has been seen by some of us.

I have seen it with my own eyes. People telling stories of torture and murder in Iraq. People cheering America and stomping on statues and pictures of Saddam. Though some 1100 civilians were lost in the war (according to this site) it seems that thousands and even millions of future Iraqi people will be free of the terror that has gripped their society for a long time. Moreover, the sons of Saddam witing in the wings to take over where daddy left off.

I am now ashamed that I joined the protest not thinking of the terror suffered by the people at the hands of the butcher Saddam. I have decided to drop my affiliation with the Democratic party and will vote for the great prsident GWB. He has led the way and another evil is eradicated from the earth. The scourge of this tyrant is over. Thank God and Allah. If the rest of you that wetre tricked into supporting the antiwar antiamerican protests now realize you were duped than spek up on this site and let the world know how wrong you were.

Thank God I have seen the light.

I too would like to apologize. I now have chills from watching the events from this morning. I hope we can now instill a strong and correct gov't for those people who have suffered for so long.

We're still right

by happy Thursday, Apr. 10, 2003 at 6:51 AM

I too am happy that the Iraqis are celebrating and that dictatorship will be gone. Protesters did not think SH was GOOD. But what is the future? It promises to be very difficult, so don't be too happy yet. The military and CIA have a history of bringing down democracy in ways that are not highly publicized. We on the left will still keep on this administration's ass so they can't get away with anything!

Really, we are!

It'll cause more terrorism! Uh oh, that didn't happen...
We can stop this war by demonstrating! Nope, that didn't work...
The American People don't want this war! Crap...just saw the polls...
Bush is Hitler! Yeah, I guess that does sound pretty lame...
The US will kill a half-million Iraqis! What? Less than 1200? Rats...
They hate us! Huh? They're dancing with an American flag?

Crap. Guess we're not right after all.

Unless you have a brain the size of a pea, which is quite likely, you should know that there is such a thing as time. Tomorrow exists, and so does next week, and next year. Are you psychic?

>It'll cause more terrorism! Uh oh, that didn't happen...

Just because it didn't happen yet doesn't mean it won't, you're so stupid!

>We can stop this war by demonstrating! Nope, that didn't work...

The millions around the world protesting forced the military to reduce civilian casualties and to make them stick to the pretense of liberation. I call that a victory.

The American People don't want this war! Crap...just saw the polls...

>It's called "gang mentality". The rest of the world (the true majority) did NOT want the war.

Bush is Hitler! Yeah, I guess that does sound pretty lame...

>We'll see. The average citizen is the last to know until it's too late.

The US will kill a half-million Iraqis! What? Less than 1200? Rats...

>We might have been wrong about that, but refer to above. If the protests prevented even a few immediate deaths isn't that good? Unfortunately, the death doesn't end there. Cancer from depleted uranium, unexploded bombs, chemicals. There's still a lot to protest against.

They hate us! Huh? They're dancing with an American flag?

> Nobody ever said the Iraqis hated us. There are several other Arab nations in case you didn't know. Anyone who ever hated us now hates us more, not less. Even so, look at Somalia- people were happy to get aid, then the US military started butting in and killing people they didn't like. The Somalians naturally got a little pissed off.

Get a clue man- this isn't over yet.

The Big Lie...

by Diogenes Thursday, Apr. 10, 2003 at 8:03 AM

...in the opening post on this thread is to attempt to equate "Anti-War" with "Anti-American". The two are not even related.

Because one opposes wholesale slaughter as a way to resolve international problems does not mean one hates one's country. Being opposed to an unjust War is arguably the height of Patriotism because one wishes to see one's country live up to the highest standards.

THE POST FROM JEFF DUBOIS IS A PHONEY

by JEFF DUBOIS IS A FRIEND OF MINE Thursday, Apr. 10, 2003 at 8:25 AM

I saw this post and did a double take. Jeff did not post this. Jeff is from Orange County and is pro-peace. I checked with him on this and he sure as heck did not post this message. I don't know who posted this, but it's not real funny. Using someone else's name like this is very uncool.

Thought everyone might like to know that some pro-war supporter is playing games with you.

What? I'm not psychic? I KNEW you were going to say that...

Seriously though, I'm as psychic as the Left, who know what's in the hearts and minds of our leaders, the Iraqis, the Europeans, the UN, every human on the planet...

"The millions around the world protesting forced the military to reduce civilian casualties and to make them stick to the pretense of liberation. I call that a victory."

Only if you want to take credit for things for which you are not responsible. I'm in the military; believe me, your protests had absolutely no bearing on what were considered acceptable civilian casualties. Believe it or not, we don't want to kill ANY civilians. We've made great efforts to avoid civilian casualties, even to the extent of not returning fire when fired upon. Coalition forces have shed blood because they would not return fire and thus endanger civilians.

"Cancer from depleted uranium, unexploded bombs, chemicals. There's still a lot to protest against. "

DU is a red herring. Been proven there's no link between the stuff Iraq is claiming and DU. If Saddam was so convinced DU was the culprit, he'd have allowed health officials in country to investigate. He didn't, because they'd have linked the health problems to chemical weapons residues. Unexploded bombs? We have troops on hand to remove them safely. But they can't be everywhere at once; unfortunately, some people will be killed, tragically, by unexploded ordnance. Chemicals? Place the blame where it belongs: Saddam.

"Nobody ever said the Iraqis hated us. " Are you kidding? Indymedia is chock-full o' posts shouting out "They hate us!"

No, it's not over yet...but it's closer than you would like to believe.

To those who consider this a Victory

by Thomas Learmont Thursday, Apr. 10, 2003 at 9:00 AM

"Those who do not study history are condemned to repeat it." - Winston Churchill

For those who claim they are about to 'abandon the peace movement', please keep the following in mind:

A democratic country enacts a 'Decree on the Protection of People and State' (a Patriot Act variant) to protect itself from terrorist attacks blamed on a people of Middle-Eastern descent after a brutal attack that destroys a national landmark. To ensure that liberty will be restored after the crisis has passed, they include a 'sunset act' which lets the act expire after four years.

This democratic country, after quieting internal dissent and quiting the International body at that time, pre-emptively strikes at another country in the name of peace. They win amazingly fast to the astonishment of all. Their leader's popularity swells. He begins to refer to his country as the "Homeland"

Then the 'sunset act' provisions are repealed. Another country, another 'danger to the public peace' is taken without incident.

Then Poland is taken and World War 2 begins.

We are walking down the same path.

This week, the Republicans plan on announcing a bill to repeal the 'sunset provisions' on our Patriot Act, making them permanent - making the powers of the Office of Homeland Security permanent!

Iraq is our "Austria", the first link in the chain of fascism.

Do not simply take my word for it.

Read the neo-conservative agenda.

Read your history.

It's not too late to stop this. Protest now. Change the future.

I live in America, the land of the free and the brave. Let's all band together to stop the unthinkable.

Is Indymedia really Independent?

by Fake Name Thursday, Apr. 10, 2003 at 11:37 AM

Do you really believe that you are on aan Independent Media web site? Take a look at the articles. Do you see a wide variety that would appeal to an Independent individual. Someone who votes independent. Sorry Hippies, but if your on this website constantly and never pay attention to the reliable corporate media then no wonder why you are out on the streets supporting terror. I guess it can't be your fault if you fail to keep yourselves informed. Here's an idea, go to a psychiatrist, get some Paraniod Schiznophrenic medication and become informed without your paranoid delusions. Do you think that this website is news. Hell, this is my comic relief. I had no idea that the world could have so many morons before I came here. Its funny, you don't report on anything besides peace protests and everything else comes right out of Al - Jazeera. To all those who are seriously reading this, all I ask is that you think about it. IF you have half a brain, you'll consider taking a look at Fox News.com . They have the most reliable information you could ask for. All of those who are hardcore liberal Democrats may not like this so just go to CNN. But what they all have in common is that they report the facts, and only the facts. They may have a lot of commentary, but it is all based on facts. Sure, you may be independent from money, no corporate sponsors, but you sure as fuck aren't politically independent. You are using the war as a political vehicle to further your lost cause. You couldn't give a fuck about the war. When Clinton bombed them without achieving any kind of objective, where were you? Clintons bombing was senseless, we never committed troops to the ground and never removed Saddam. Why do you waste your time? I'll be voting for Bush in the next election because I think he's the best guy for the job. He's done a great job with this war and when that flow of oil comes into our economy, I'm sure you jack asses won't be bitching about saving some gas money. Just try to shut up because all you are doing is making yourselves look stupid, OK?

To Fake Name

by IMS Thursday, Apr. 10, 2003 at 8:19 PM

I suggest you get informed. CNN delivers innacurate news to us. I watch CNN, I know. And I also watch news from Mexico (TV Azteca and Televisa), which are very informative. They are pretty unbiased, meaning they do not idolize Saddam or Bush. They concentrate on the real outcome of the war, show real scences, not those generic modified lies that are shown on CNN.

Think about this, if you were trying to gain support for a war that is opposed by the World, and you are able to control the media, would you misinform people(by lying or only showing one-side story)? Its common sense. If people saw what was really going on, they would not stand for it.

This war shows the irresponsibility of your so called "leaders." A 'leader' who does not know how to work diplomatically is not a true leader. They do not look out for your interest, but for their own. They do not care about the Iraqui people, if they did they would have lifted the sanctions long ago. They do not even care about Saddam. All they care about is themselves.

Do yourself a favor and educate yourself. If you don't, you have no right to critize someone else's level of intelligence or awareness because you dont know what is going on. And it is silly not to question certain things, like the media. Put yourself in the common Iraqui position. What would you do if someone invaded your county with false promises, your family and friends were killed, your culture was being destroyed by bombs, your children witnessed these horrific events...? Don't you think that such a country like the US should be responsible enough to find a safer alternative solution to problems like these?

And to all of you who think that those opposed to the colonization of Iraq are pro-Saddam Hussein...You are seriously ignorant...Educate yourselves...We stand for justice and Hussein is one of the most unjust persons in this world. Use common sense if you are too lazy and ignorant to pick up a book.
