YOU COULD'NT HAVE BEEN MORE WRONG

by fresca Thursday, Apr. 10, 2003 at 5:30 AM

WHEN WILL YOU ALL MARCH IN APOLOGY

YOU COULD'NT HAVE BE...
statue.jpgeemnd9.jpg, image/jpeg, 280x210

As I write this, thepeople of Baghda, as I'm sure you know, are literally mobbing the street, waving US Flags, cheering our soldiers, and chanting "Bush number 1".
Civilian casualties have been almost negligable compared to the fiqures all of you glommed onto as you took the UN estimates as Gospel.
The war has gone INCREDIBLY smoothly and quickly.
ON EVERY LEVEL, you have all been wrong.
I can't wait for the apologies. That is if you have any balls.

Typical American attention span...

by Point Thursday, Apr. 10, 2003 at 5:58 AM

It's over? Hell, it's been going on for over 13 years just in the case of Iraq, and there is no end in sight. . . The Thief-in-Chief cannot stop now or the real issues facing the American people will return to center stage: the crisis in health care, the underfunding of practically all social functions of government, the continuing recession, etc.

The Patriot Acts, I and II, are serious afflictions on the American body politic, and will need to be seriously challenged or anyone who doesn't go along with further transfers of wealth to the already bloated wealthy will be deemed a "terrorist."

It isn't over by a long shot, as this "war" was simply a tactical diversion by the chickenhawks. Only those who don't think have been taken in by it.

We need to push even harder to communicate to people that the path the Bush Regime is on leads to a very steep cliff. The previous administrations were on the same path, but the Bush Regime is accelerating . . .Only a completely different take on the use of energy of all forms has any hope of preventing a complete collapse of human culture.

Here is a site to get you started in the right direction:

Way to go, Point!

by daveman Thursday, Apr. 10, 2003 at 6:06 AM

Way to hijack a thread!

Back on topic: BAGHDAD IS FREE.

The things the Baghdad citizens are doing today would have meant an instant death sentence 24 hours ago.

But all you can talk about is "Bush is bad!"

When will you admit that your problem with this war is the fact that it's being led by a Republican?

We haven't killed a half-million Iraqis. We've freed them.

You were wrong. Admit it, if you have any integrity.

If you don't, you can always go back to "Bush is bad!"

Where the fuck are the flag waivers in the pic you posted. All I see are some people standing and looking around at the statute that was knocked over by the juvenile act of the baby killers that Bushit sent over there. Gee, Asshole, because someone looks at something like this, you jump to the dumb-shit conclusion that they are cheering the baby killers.

I know you cannot THINK for yourself, but can you SEE for yourself....or you gotta checks with Fresca on that?

Man, talk about dishonesty. Your right wing Freeper creeps will stoop to anything to try and win a point. I guess dishonesty doesn't count, huh? Wonder where you got that it's OK to lie in the name of the U.S. [Hint: The answer to that one, has the initials of GEORGE BUSH.]

HERES ONE!

THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, WISHES TO APOLOGIZE TO THE IRAQI AND IRANIANS KILLED BY SADDAM HUSSEIN DURING THE TIME IN WHICH IT EXPRESSED MORAL, FINANCIAL, POLITICAL AND MILITARY SUPPORT FOR HIS ACTIONS.

IN LIEU OF OUR TREACHEROUS HISTORY OF SUPPORTING BRUTAL DICTATORSHIPS AND GENOCIDAL REGIMES THROUGHOUT THE WORLD WHENEVER AND WHEREVER IT SUITED OUR INTERESTS, IN LIEU OF THE TIMES WHERE WE SHOWED SHAMEFUL DISREGARD FOR HUMAN RIGHTS, IN LIEU OF THE TIME WHEN WE DECIDED THAT MORE MONEY IN OUR POCKETS WAS WORTH MORE THAN THE LIVES OF A "FOREIGN" INDIVIDUAL...

THE UNITED STATES SINCERELY APOLOGIZES

I have never asserted...

by Diogenes Thursday, Apr. 10, 2003 at 7:46 AM

...otherwise. However, this war was not about liberating the Iraqi People. That was SPIN set up as a PR justification for the war. It was about the fourth and final excuse cited by the Bush Junta for this War.

If the Iraqi People do end up benefitting well I am glad. However, that was not why this War was conducted. The Bush Junta could care less about the Iraqi People. My guess would be they are considered more of a nuisance than anything else.

This was a War for Geopolitical Influence and Power. It was not about human freedom and dignity.

Just ask yourself how much was the cause of human freedom forwarded by the "un-Patriot" Act or the creation of a new Gestapo called Der Bureau of Homeland Sekurity. Not one whit. You have to look at the entire picture to discern the entire theme. The Bush Junta's first priority is their own personal interests; first, foremost, and always.

A White Horse

by Point Thursday, Apr. 10, 2003 at 10:38 AM

There is an old story from the Chinese about a philosopher by the name of HuiTzu arguing about a "white horse." He goes on describing the color white in relation to a horse. . .Then someone points out to him that if he wants to describe a horse, he shouldn't talk about "white."

All of you who are uttering the word "free," whether in reference to yourselves or the Iraquis are very similar to HuiTzu. . .The fundamental ground has not changed an iota, and you are not any free-er than before. Because you are still only bagmen for the bosses. A horse is a horse...And it's been riding you all along.

I was wondering the same about the right wing. I was also wondering how truly gullible people like you are - never question the government.

If you have some photo program, I truly suggest that you enlarge some of these pictures and get to the pixel level. Even prior to enlarging to that great of a degree, it is obvious that most of the photos have been altered. Some of these are very good work. But by looking at the different gradations, it is clear that things have been changed.

Try doing a screen capture...

by Photographer Thursday, Apr. 10, 2003 at 12:32 PM

...and see what happens. Either you are blind...or these photos are altered. Run some color tests on some of the flags which appear in the photos. Even you, Fresca, are not so dumb and deluded to see that numbers do not lie. Tell me, how in the world would the red color on the America flag come out at the same hue and intensity over the entire flag. That just does not happen.

That photo is clearly doctored. It is a fairly good job, but it is doctored. If you do not believe me, get some software off the net and do the tests for yourself. I assume that you can do this. You seem to know everything about everything.

Try sometime, Fresca, when someone is giving you facts to take a second look at what is going on. I know that facts might get in the way of your agenda, but that does not change them.

By the way, Fresca, I support the War in Iraq but I am very concerned as to why these doctored photos are appearing all over the place.

Even without photographic software, take a close look at the man holding the "Chirac" photo. Do you have any explanation as to why he has 3 hands? This should have been clue #1 to you that there is something very wrong with this photo. Also look at the bottom of the poster. This is not a very good job in doctoring the photo, but others that I have found are quite good. It would appear that some professionals has done some of these. (But there are some things you just cannot fake.)

You make a very good point...

by To: KPC Thursday, Apr. 10, 2003 at 2:51 PM

....in essence, when in Rome, do as the Romans do. These are poor, oppressed people. They live in fear, I would imagine, most of the time. Here comes the US troops with guns and tanks. What the hell else would anyone expect them to do? If they loved Saddam, they sure as heck are not going to say it to a soldier holding a gun on them.

It was very curious to me that the pictures of the liberation showing "good feelings" towards the GIs were so few and showed so few people. I can remember pictures of WWII when the GIs came in to liberate countries and these certainly were of a different nature than what I have seen on the net today. I am seeing more celebration by Iraqis in the US and this is to be expected. They are not facing US tanks, rifles and soldiers.

We are simply replacing one dictatorship with another. This is just immoral. There is no reason for us being there other than the oil.

Look at the Arab Street now

by Bush Admirer Thursday, Apr. 10, 2003 at 4:08 PM

Well look at the Arab Street now:

http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/iraq/2003-04-09-arabs-reax_x.htm

Arabs clustered at TV sets in shop windows, coffee shops, kitchens and offices to watch the astounding pictures of U.S. troops overwhelming an Arab capital for the first time ever. Feeling betrayed and misled, some turned off their sets in disgust when jubilant crowds in Baghdad celebrated the arrival of U.S. troops.

The shock came after weeks of hearing Saddam's government pledge a "great victory" or fight to the death against "infidel invaders."

"We discovered that all what the (Iraqi) information minister was saying was all lies," said Ali Hassan, a government employee in Cairo. "Now no one believes Al-Jazeera anymore."
____

Geez, if you can't believe Al Sahaf and Al-Jazeera then who can you believe? Nessie? Sheepdog? Diogenes?

They all seem to go together don't they?

I agree with Fresca.

When are you pack of traitorous hounds and apologists for Fascism going to hold your march of shame?

I'm thinking along the lines of what the French did with collaborators at the end of the Second World War.

Yup

by Scottie Friday, Apr. 11, 2003 at 12:09 AM

Yup and the people at the anti war protests bring all their signs too.. yeah right! they get handed them at the desk at the start of the march.

The only difference is the soldiers dont have to threaten their lives to get them to wave flags. In fact these people are risking sniper fire to march/dance.
What matters is that they are waving and dancing and they KNOW what the flag means (so many western protestors can be asked about their sign and they go "I dunno" or "I dont really agree with it").

The fancy flags are most likely the same ones carried by the US military. The bay bay sadam and other stuff on paper are probably theirs.

When I lived in Oman, my housekeeper was Sri Lankan; she was from Kandy. Very good woman; we were sorry to have to leave. She and her husband were family to us.

All that aside, perhaps you can explain how Sri Lanka is a bastion of human rights compared to th U.S., when tens of thousands of people have died in the ethnic war between the Sinhalese and the Tamil Separatists and a half-million Tamils have fled the country.

The New X

by To Daveman Friday, Apr. 11, 2003 at 9:20 AM

I said I was born in Sri Lanka. I lived my whole life in the U.A.E. Therefore I don't feel any particular attachment to Sri Lanka. However, I am an ethnic Malay and I am very aware of the shameful actions undertaken by the Sinhalese government against not only the tamils, but other minorities in Sri Lanka as well. I am also aware of the despicable LTTE tactic of using suicide bombers to pressure the Sinhalese government to make concessions to the Tamils. I am aware of the LTTE's use of child soldiers in the civil war.

I would like you to kindly remind me when it was that I said Sri Lanka (or ANY country for that matter) was a bastion of human rights?

I aim to simply point out the hypocrisy of US foreign policy. I wish to highlight the fact that the US condoned Iraq's human rights abuse (the very abuse it is using now to justify its "liberation" of the Iraqi people). I wish to highlight the fact that the US supported the Shah of Iran in spite of his dismal human rights record. I wish to point out the fact that the US STILL supports the Saudi regime in spite of its dismal human rights record. I wish to point out that the US STILL supports the Israeli government in spite of its dismal human rights record. The list goes on.

I wish that the US would use its military and economic might to uphold human rights (as it did in Kosovo). If that is not possible (obviously it isn't), it would at least be symbolic if the US didn't actively support parties that opposed human rights.

Interestingly enough, (assuming you are American of course - I may well be wrong) I was quite bemused at how you referred to the Tamils as "separatists" and not "terrorists" in spite of the LTTE suicide bombings.

Allow me to make my opinions known. Although I am strongly against terrorist tactics (the wilful targetting of civilians for political gain), I cannot disregard the fact that suicide bombings are carried out in desperation, frustration and anger. In the case of both Sri Lanka and Israel, the lawful governments have engaged in a series of actions that have systematically degraded, humiliated, dehumanized and discriminated against a certain population. To those respective governments I ask: What else do you expect? How can you not expect an oppressed population to explode with rage?

I applaud your stand on terrorism, although we disagree about Israel. The Palestinians (through Arafat) have chosen their own oppression. They were offered 95% of what they wanted; they chose the intifata. Further, the Palestinian Charter states they will accept nothing less than the death of Judaism. I think you might forgive Israel for being a little upset over that.

Your criticism of US foreign policy implied you lived somewhere with a better grasp on it. I'm sorry I misunderstood.

Yes, the US has made what may appear to be errors (as well as some pretty boneheaded plays). But for how long must we be blamed for what happened in the past? Is there no statute of limitations? It would appear not. At the moment, we are in the middle of a wonderful opportunity to correct whatever mistake we made supporting Saddam (for the record, I don't think it was; at the time, Iran was crazier than Iraq).

As for supporting other human-rights abusing states, right on! If they won't make nice, let's either cut off the bucks or send in the troops. Most of the little tinpot dictators around the world bad-mouth the States while they have their hand out for fat wads of cash. Cut 'em off, I say.

Thanks for some civilized conversation.

-- the US condoned Iraq's human rights abuse

As dave man pointed out - It is a matter of who is worse at the time. For example The US has supported
iraq in an attempt to oppose Iran because it felt Iran was worse. The US has supported the saudi's because it thinks iraq is worse. the US has supported North Korea for example because it didnt want it to develop nukes and use them on us, and the US has supported israel as it happens to have a better human rights record than Palistine and any of its neighbours.

If the US had used some simplistic foreign policy where friends are ranked by human rights records then we would be subsidising finland and new zealand and have no influence at all in most of asia or africa. Ie no influence to improve human rights.

Internally, the choice is often between one evil leader and another evil leader in a single country. the US could say "i wont get involved" or it could be practical and say.. leader A is less evil than leader B so therefore we will support him. this gives fuel for the anti US people when they find out leader "A" is evil but they dont realise what the alternative might have been.

- it would at least be symbolic if the US didn't actively support parties that opposed human rights.

Pity no one else does their politics that way...

- To those respective governments I ask: What else do you expect? How can you not expect an oppressed population to explode with rage?

What you expect someone to do and what they are justified in doing are different things.
If I went to the the roughest street in the US and stood there all day - i would expect to get mugged at some stage.
That doesnt mean that they are allowed to do that - they would still be comitting a crime exactly as if I had been mugged doing somthing more normal like collecting my mail.
Similarly in war time an army could be expected to do "whatever it takes" to win. But some armies (such as the US army) rise above that and "fight fair". If the other armies never "fight fair" the US's will to do it themselves will start to run out.

obvious question

by anti-troll Friday, Apr. 11, 2003 at 6:16 PM

troll or no troll, sometimes I think people forget to ask obvious questions, like for instance, how the fuck did Iraqis suddenly get American flags in volume? It's not like they've got a culture of hording American flags, and it's not like they're sold at the local market.... So-damn-insane, evil dictator that he was, of course, wouldn't put up with that shit, now would he?

So, where the hell do all these flags come from?

think about it........

All I am saying is that you guys point of "why don't they act like this" is not valid as in practice it is not possible to opperate with a simplistic policy.

That's why we use Depleted Uranium Weapons that litter the Battlefield for generations with Toxic Dust which causes Birth Defects, Cancers, and Uranium Poinsoning. Right?

That's why the U.S. Bombed Water Works, Sewage Systems and Civilian Homes. Right?

No our Government puts out great PR but they do not "Walk the Walk".

Trotting out the DU crap again, eh, old man?

Didn't our heroic Coalition forces just roll through Northern Kuwait and Southern Iraq? I thought that these places would be toxic wastelands! My god, man. Do you know what this means? Every one of our soldiers are going to die from exposure to the mountains of radioactive dust swirling around. Whatever shall we do, chicken little?

Again, no satisfactory answer has been given to the question why no Kuwaitis seem to suffer from DU yet the Iraqis do. Is DU a clever anti-Iraqi compound created by Bush's Nazi dad in an underground lab in Schweinfurt during the closing days of WWII?

And your assertion about our bombing of water works, etc.. kindly substantiate. My guess is that you will find that during the first Gulf War we targeted power plants - which included hydroelectric dams. But I'm sure you know better, so put up or shut up.

Diogenes

by daveman Saturday, Apr. 12, 2003 at 6:21 AM

Most of the DU used in GW1 was used in Kuwait.

So why is Iraq the only place where there are "Birth Defects, Cancers, and Uranium Poinsoning"? No increase in Kuwait, or in eastern Europe where DU was used. Hmmmm...

(BTW, using a lot of Capital Letters Does Not Make You Right)

"Is DU a clever anti-Iraqi compound created by Bush's Nazi dad in an underground lab in Schweinfurt during the closing days of WWII?" Hee hee!

As for the GW1 vets, I expect the problem will be found to be low-level exposure to chem weapons...but NOTHING has been proven yet...including any involvement with DU.

And I don't think we targeted hydroelectric dams in GW1. If anyone has any (credible) evidence we did, I'd like to see it.
