"MY COUNTRY RIGHT OR WRONG" - Artwork

by Mark Vallen - ART FOR A CHANGE Sunday, Apr. 06, 2003 at 11:01 PM

"My Country Right or Wrong." Cliff Joseph 1968 Oil on Canvas

"MY COUNTRY RIG...

African American Artist, Cliff Joseph, was the co-founder of the Black Emergency Cultural Coalition in New York, an Artist's group involved in creating socially conscious artworks.

Joseph's Painting was created at the height of America's war on Vietnam. A stunning indictment of the imperialist war, the artwork also derided the blind false patriotism that gave support to the war effort.

In Joseph's Painting, flag-blindfolded citizens wander through a desolate landscape of crushed skeletons. Gore stains the feet and ankles of the people traversing the endless fields of massacred people. In the background an upside down American flag, a cross, and a Star of David can be seen... a condemnation of all national chauvinisms and militarism.

Liberals

by Scottie Wednesday, Apr. 09, 2003 at 11:20 AM

Liberals with their blindfolds on wandering through the bodies of hte people sadam and other despots have killed but not realising that THEY have allowed it to happen.
They are (mostly) blondfolded by upside down american flags (hate for america) and they have erected a upside down american flag in the back ground.
they face all sorts of directions in their confusion.
The men who did it seems to have planted a jewish star of david and a cross in the bodies (its certainly not the jews or the christians as none of them are eager to clain the bodies, maybe he planted the upside down flag as well because of course all the peopel are blindfolded.) With the idea that the blindfolded people will eventuallly find the star or the cross and blame it on that religion.

Somthing for everyone....
