Riverside also has pro-war demonstrators who show up at demonstrations on Friday evenings(Central and Iowa) and Saturday afternoons(14th and Magnolia) simply to try to drown out anti-war demonstrators.

There are other pro-war demonstrations where they truly do support the troops in Iraq and have programs to help them over there.

However, there are so-called counter-demonstrators who simply appear at anti-war demonstrations to harass and even to physically attack anti-war demonstrators with the apparent blessing of the local police.

Hmmmmm.....glorious and courageous members of the RPD. Wow....I'm impressed - NOT!!!! Wonder when some class and culture will come to the Inland Armpit? Geeeeez: What a bunch of weenie cowboys. Well, the language gives them away every time and I am aware of how often they check sites like Indymedia out. Unfortunately, some of them make very sexist comments about women. I've heard them do it myself and banning that crap from the rollcall room simply bumped it further out into the field, be it the street or the places they hang out. Some of the supervisors engage in it too, which I believe was the problem which led to the video-cameras in the first place.

I know some good ones in there and I feel bad and embarassed for them that they have to work with those who need a serious attitude change. And as for cowboys, that's one of their cute little shooting gangs they have going in there that apparently still exists despite the consent decree.

The sad thing is that someone sent me an email from someone(connected with the RPD) saying that the anti-war activists should avoid groups that espouse hatred of people based on race and religion, when there is more of those loosely-knit groups within the department than in the anti-war movement. They should clean their own house first and then give advice on what others should do.

They do that, then I might believe there is some serious progress in terms of reform.

My favorite one of them who posts here calls him self, "Joe." He gave away too much information in one of his posts, however.

I'm sure it's a fairly good guess. I've been right before about it.

As for the relationship between the RPD and the skinhead population, I've known officers who've allowed female skinheads to go free after assaults against people of color because they are their girlfriends, including an incident at a gas station after 9/11. The RPD allowed a skinhead to escape after a stabbing at a protest on 3/21, while arresting the man who was attacked, also a person of color.

Both the federal and state investigations launched into the patterns and practices of the RPD found incidences of racism.

As for consent decrees, they come in two different types, state and federal.


The LAPD is under federal consent decree through the U.S. Attorneys Office and the DOJ Civil Rights Divisision.

The Riverside Police Department is the only department in California(and the first in the country to be under decree by state) to be currently under state consent decree after the city of Riverside signed a 5-year agreement to reform the department, in March 2001. The RPD still faces a potential consent decree under the federal agencies after the state decree expires if the issues btwn the feds and the city are not resolved.
