A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.4MB) and quick download (3.3MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. Russia, China, Germany, Netherlands, and Cuba.

Dear Radio Friend,

The latest Shortwave Report (April 4) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality 13.4MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:28) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.

This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org

There are several other streams that work better- http://members.cruzio.com/~frsc/ Freak Radio Santa Cruz (96.3fm) streams this program on Friday at 5:35pm (PST) and on Monday at 9amPST.

Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.rinku.zaq.ne.jp/bkaec205/

streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.

And the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio

This week's show features stories from the Voice Of Russia, China Radio International, Radio Deutsche Welle, Radio Netherlands, and Radio Havana Cuba.

From Russia- In Italy, workers stopped for 8 hours on Wednesday to show opposition to the war on Iraq. In the West Bank, Israeli soldiers have rounded up 2000 men and boys, and are holding them without charges. US reporter Peter Arnet was fired by NBC for being on Iraqi TV and stating his view of how the US war on Iraq was developing- his history as a war reporter is described here, as he is being called a “traitor” by the American media and some politicians.

From China- First a review of world opposition to the war on Iraq. Then, tens of thousands of bombs have already been dropped in Iraq, where the disease and Leukemia rates are still massive as a result of the first war ten years ago. Then a media review on the long-term effects of the war.

From Germany- Human Rights Watch is extremely concerned about the US use of cluster bombs in the war and the problems that will carry over for years to come as a result of their use.

From Netherlands- The UN is asking US and Britain to stop handing out food packets to Iraqis that look the same as unexploded cluster bombs- this same problem occured in the war on Afghanistan. Then a reporter is asked about civilian casualties in the bombing of Iraq, and how civilians perceive their so-called “liberators.”

From Cuba- World opinion, including Britain and Australia, is demanding that the UN play the leading role in post-war Iraq, not the US. Then a story on the War Crimes court in Belgium, where charges of genocide against George Bush Sr and Colin Powell for the first Gulf War may become invalid.

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
