My recent article and photos,
"Thank
God for Fox News" - Fun at the San Francisco Pro-War Rally ignited
a small firestorm on a national level.
I had taken some rather compromising
photos of San Francisco police wearing
flag bandannas at a recent San Francisco pro-war rally, and had written
a biting commentary to go along with the photos.
Within
minutes of posting my story at sf.indymedia.org
I started to receive more traffic that I have ever received. Apparently,
I had struck a nerve.
Early the next morning someone
sent me this article: SFPD
Told to Take Off American Flag Headwear. Acting Chief Alex Fagan had
apparently seen received hundreds of compaints as well seen a picture
of "up to four officers" with the aforementioned flag bandannas
on their heads (I have confirmed through channels that wish to remain
anonymous that the picture Fagan had seen was the one posted at Indymedia
and on my web-site.)
Well, this was turning out
very well. I had been annoyed, to say the least, to see officers so brazenly
flouting their uniform standards to make a rather lame political statement
(They claimed they were not making a statement, but, well, they were.)This
wasn't the end of the story.
As I started my drive to work
I turned on the radio to listen to the usual corporate propaganda when
what did I hear? It was flag-bandanna-gate on the national news (ABC Radio
News.), Or as I like to call it do-rag-gate.
Well, there you have it. We
made a tiny little difference. Now we just need to do something like this
to stop the war.
