A Chinese economic embargo can stop the war!!!

by Aman Friday, Mar. 21, 2003 at 6:28 PM

Why don't we organize a rally in front of the Chinese consulate on Shatto Street...if China even dreams an economic embargo, Bush will fall to his knees and bring our troops home!!!

WTO?

by Duff Friday, Mar. 21, 2003 at 10:45 PM
duff@ecomail.org

Is China a member of the WTO? If so, wouldn't an organized boycott of American goods would be deemed "illegal" under their rules and justice system. Just like how Americans can't use silly trade restrictions like child labor in our consumer choices.

interesting NYT article re war and WTO

by irpy Friday, Mar. 21, 2003 at 10:55 PM

Worth a read re: the logic of WTO.
Shows a rift between the the "world" (of the World Trade Organization) and the Bush Administration.

Do you think PRC wants this?

by WeiBing Saturday, Mar. 22, 2003 at 6:11 AM

Do you really think the Chinese are against this war? Over a hundred Chinese nationals were nabbed in Afganistan. Muslem terrorists have blown up buses in Beijing in the past few years and keep Western China in a state of slow simmering termoil. I think the PRC doesn't mind seeing the Saddamist protesters in the US and elsewhere embarass Americans - they probably encourage these actions - but think they would be very happy to see "islamism" on the defensive.
