Mon., 14 Al-Muharram 1424 A.H., 17 March 2003
Verse of the Day: The Unbelievers spend their wealth to hinder (men) from the path of Allah, and so will they continue to spend; but in the end they will have (only) regrets and sighs; at length they will be overcome: and the Unbelievers will be gathered together to Hell.

US and UK defying UN by RCL 5:41pm Sun Mar 16 '03
Bush and Blair are about to defy the expressed will of the UN security council.

France, Russia, Germany and China have consistently backed the UN route of weapons inspections backed by the threat of military force. For the US and the UK to DEMAND that they now give up any right to decide if Iraq has complied or not is outrageous.
Bush Sr said he did not invade Iraq in the early nineties because he has no UN authorization to do so. In passing the 1441 resolution, it was made clear that the resolution was NOT a trigger for war. Blair has NO authorization from the UN security council to take any military action against Iraq on behalf of the UN. The majority of the UN security council has made it clear that they wish inspections to continue. If there is no second vote, that will be an admission that the UN will not back military action at this time.
Bush and Blair are about to defy the expressed will of the UN security council.

WAGING PEACE
http://www.wagingpeace.org/articles/01.11/011118royarundhati.htm

When he announced the air strikes, President George Bush said, "We're a peaceful nation." America's favourite ambassador, Tony Blair, (who also holds the portfolio of Prime Minister of the UK), echoed him: "We're a peaceful people."

So now we know. Pigs are horses. Girls are boys. War is Peace.

Speaking at the FBI headquarters a few days later, President Bush said: "This is our calling. This is the calling of the United States of America. The most free nation in the world. A nation built on fundamental values that reject hate, reject violence, rejects murderers and rejects evil. We will not tire."

The International Coalition Against Terror is largely a cabal of the richest countries in the world. Between them, they manufacture and sell almost all of the world's weapons, they possess the largest stockpile of weapons of mass destruction chemical, biological and nuclear. They account for most of the genocide, subjection, ethnic cleansing and human rights violations in modern history, and have sponsored, armed, and financed untold numbers of dictators and despots. Between them, they have worshipped, almost deified, the cult of violence and war. For all its appalling sins, the Taliban just isn't in the same league as the USA

Perspectives on Terrorist Attacks
http://www.guardian.co.uk/Archive/Article/0,4273,4266289,00.html

Once war begins, it will develop a momentum, a logic and a justification of its own, and we'll lose sight of why it's being fought in the first place. Box-cutters, penknives, and cold anger are the weapons with which the wars of the new century will be waged. Anger is the lock pick. It slips through customs unnoticed. Doesn't show up in baggage checks.

It's reasonable to wonder why the symbols of America's economic and military dominance - the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon - were chosen as the targets of the attacks. Why not the Statue of Liberty? Could it be that the stygian anger that led to the attacks has its taproot not in American freedom and democracy, but in the US government's record of commitment and support to exactly the opposite things - to USA military and economic terrorism

First Person: US brutality is a reality
by Daniesha L. 4:50am Mon Mar 17 '03
Keep an open mind; read more than just the horror stories about Saddam which the US media continually feeds us.

It is obligatory to say, we know Saddam Hussein is cruel tyrant who abuses his people.

But should it not be even more obligatory to say, as ML King did, that the US is the greatest purveyor of violence on the world stage?

I say yes.

The media will try, and try, to feed us story after story about Saddam Hussein's cruelty. But this is to distract us from the cruelty of our own government toward its own people and toward the rest of the world.

Two days ago I saw a story on the Canadian TV show, the National, which gave a detailed account of the US bombing of an air raid shelter in Baghdad, where hundreds were incinerated. This story was delivered in the first person, by one of the few survivors, who was a young man of 16 at the time.

Bodies went up in flames; this boy saw faces burning as he ran from the shelter, barely escaping with a few others. He was lucky, because he slept right next to the door.

This was a feature news story on Canadian TV. It is no wonder Americans support war, since our news outlets deliberately censor stories like this.

So while the stories of Saddam Hussein's atrocities are important, they are used as propaganda by the US media owners, to justify war.

US memories are short. And the memories do not contain all the information for an objective judgment. What happened and is happening in Afghanistan. All documentaries about US atrocities in Afghanistan are censored from US media outlets, while they are shown in Europe and other parts of the world. Civilian casuaties from bombing, prisoners locked in boxcars and suffocated, the massacre of Mazar al Sharif, continued atrocities by Northern alliance warlords, and many other stories are virtually ignored by US media.

It is a scandal.

THE NEXT COMMENT SHOWS HOW PEOPLE LIKE BUSH THINK AND FEEL: [Comment titled: “right” by Soldier 5:00am Mon Mar 17 '03
"Civilian casuaties from bombing"

“add up all the civilian casualties from bombings caused by the US since after the vietnam war and I gaurantee it'll be lower than the number of civilians deliberately killed by Sadams forces in 1991.

"prisoners locked in boxcars and suffocated, the massacre of Mazar al Sharif, continued atrocities by Northern alliance warlords, and many other stories are virtually ignored by US media." … none of that was done by the US. blame the new afghan forces if you want, leave america out of it. yes, the US did cause the current situation by launching a war to topple the Taliban. the only way these "atrocities" could have been avoided is by:
A) Not attacking and simply letting the Al Qaeda launch more attacks, or
B) Taking over Afghanistan entirely and putting it under US control untill the warlords could be disarmed and some kind of democracy instituted, which would probably take about a decade.
Option A might seem like a good idea to you. If it does, you're an idiot. Enough said. Option B would have been even less acceptable to the left than the current situation.

How about you stop pointing fingers and offer some workable solutions?
[Of course soldier doesn’t offer anything except USA imperial genocide!]

BUSH IS WARNED ABOUT ILLEGALITY OF UNILATERAL WAR.
by Rosalinda 9:00pm Sat Mar 15 '03

Articles have appeared during the past week --
including one on German television -- warning that an attack on
Iraq carried out without UN Security Council authorization would
be in violation of the UN Charter and international law, and that
President Bush and Defense Secretary Rumsfeld could eventually
find themselves charged with war crimes before the
newly-inaugurated International Criminal Court (ICC).

Announcement made (also 2/13/03) by the United
Nations' undersecretary-general for humanitarian affairs, Kenzo Oshima,
that as many as 10 million people might need food assistance during and
after an Iraq war, 50 percent of Iraq's population might be without
potable water, and that between 600,000 and 1.45 million people might
become refugees and asylum seekers.

Also unreported on ABC, CBS and NBC were the internal U.N. estimatesrevealed in leaked documents publicized by the Campaign Against Sanctionson Iraq and the Center for Economic and Social Rights. The U.N. predictedthat 30 percent of Iraq's children under five "would be at risk of deathfrom malnutrition" in the event of war (CASI press release, 2/17/03), and
that 500,000 people could "require medical treatment… as a result of
direct or indirect injuries," with potentially 100,000 Iraqi civilians
wounded "and another 400,000 hit by disease after the bombing of water and
sewage facilities and the disruption of food supplies" (London Guardian,
1/29/03).
