Hello All,

a brief report on the actions that took place at Estancia High School (Costa Mesa) today... For the past week or so, students have been aware that today was a walk-out day. We've had many discussions during our Human Rights Club meetings about what we wanted to do to support this Stop-Everything day. We decided to have a demonstration and serve "Peace tea" during lunch.

Yesterday about 15 students made posters for today's demonstration. Last night one creative young lady, Brittany, painted teacups that read "War is not my cup of tea!"

Today, Brittany went into the front office and offered all the office workers a cup of tea. They were delighted and commended her on her "civilized" and creative idea! After our tea party, we took our signs and flags to the front entrance of the school. We started out with about 10 VERY timid students, but by the time lunch was over there were 43 students and 4 teachers out on the line!

Observing the event were our school newspaper photographer, security guards, police officer, principal, and the teacher's union lawyer.

We count these modest actions as a big success as our students tell us of the tremendous pressure they get at home and from their friends about their anti-war position. It took some courage for them to get out there!
