Feb. 15th, 2003 Call For Los Angeles Black Bloc

A Proposal for an Anti-Authoritarian, Anti-Capitalist Black Bloc.

As the rising tide of fascism and capitalist domination continues to

gain momentum and strength, the time for direct action against the

oppressive state and capitalist structure becomes all the more urgent.

As anti-authoritarian anti-capitalists of all stripes, we send solidarity

to the sisters, brothers, mothers, fathers, and friends who are out in

the streets protesting against the coming slaughter of innocent civillians

in Iraq.

For this reason, and to open up new avenues of resistance and add vitality

and strength to an already growing movement of conscious individuals across

the Los Angeles area, we are calling for the mobilization of

all militant anti-authoritarian anti-capitalists, anarchists, and like minded individuals

to converge during the Feb. 15th March in Los Angeles, CA. We have been silent far too

long, and will join in the demonstration in solidarity with the oppressed of the world

and against the illegal, fascist regime of King GW Bush.



BASIS OF UNITY

We do not accept power games being played at the expense of

working class people, humanity in general, and all life on earth.

We do not endorse any individual, institution, or state of mind that seeks to

dominate and place itself above the people.

We recognize the right of all people to engage in resistance at different

levels that are suitable for them, but we also recognize that no one

particular tactic should come to dominate an entire movement of resistance.

We recognize that the fundamental diseases that afflict humanity are hierarchical

forms of society based on domination and exploitation. From this follows, but is

not limited to: racism, sexism, hate, murder, fascism, etc.

We recognize the urgency to set forth an initiative in a city reknowned for its

violent police, that this convergence will be a demonstration of resistance and

the beginning of an ongoing presence within Los Angeles without being afraid of

standing up for what we believe in.

We recognize that warfare is a systemic problem, and that the only way to rid the

earth of this problem is to remove the structures of capitalism and authority.

The Black Bloc is called autonomously, and comprised of groups of autonomous

affinity groups, but who will be marching concurrently with the "mainstream"

demonstration called for by the Coalition for World Peace, Not in Our Name, and

Interfaith Communities United for Justice and Peace. For more info on

Neither their war nor their peace

Black Bloc... why not organize and hold your OWN demonstration? Why jeapordize a mass march organized by others and attended by people who will not agree with your tactics?

Will you provide the Police with the "excuse" to shut down the mass legal march. Will your tactics lead to the Police wading into a crowd of peaceful protestors... gassing and clubbing them?

Black Bloc... your leech-like existance places the antiwar movement in peril. What good will your "break away" march do? Better that you organize yourselves to go store to store in the Hollywood area and talk to the business owners, politely asking them to place antiwar statements in their shop windows!

I'm not a member of any organization... I don't know the organizers of the Feb. 15th protest... but your intentions of holding a "break away Black Bloc action" are counter productive and WRONG.

Im real glad we are doing this. I think there is a very strong need for a bloc at these liberal cheesy permited protests. It's about time, round them up everyone. This IS what democracy looks like

Be aware people this is how COINTELPRO works to divide the opposition and discredit it. I would be willing to bet a hefty sum that underlying this "breakaway" is a government stoolpigeon instigating the whole thing. It is counterproductive and that is why they would push it.

First, you just announced your meeting publicly for a so-called "breakaway" march that if modeled on the San Francisco one will engage in property destruction (which is fine under the right conditions, and this isn't).

Don't you think that you might have some police infiltration? Smart move.

Second, the idea of a breakaway march is riddled with problems. Even if you target some evil corporate bastards for some window-breaking, what do you think the message will be? You are playing directly into the stereotypes of "anarchists as hooligans." Your breakaway march should properly be titled, Let-Me-Jerk-Myself-Off-To-Some-Machismo-Window-Breaking-Male-Twenty-Something-Probably-White-Middle-Class-I-Want-To-Stand-Out-In-The-Crowd-Fuck-What-Anyone-Else-Thinks-Fuck-Solidarity-Fuck-Real-Organizing-Work-And-Lets-Breakaway-And-Then-Leave-The-Poor-Locals-To-Deal-With-The-Cops-March....oh yes, and lets call everyone liberals who disagree with us, even if they claim they are anarchists.

Why don't you think about actually working with people who have different beliefs systems than yours? Why not demonstrate and argue for a vision of society with those you disagree with? Or, you can just go off and have your temper tantrun "breakaway" march and feel superior, and warm and fuzzy, and that you actually "did" something.

Yes, anti-war speeches are boring, but so is the tired response by the anarchist community to always resort to property destruction because, unfortunately, there are so few talented anarchist community and labor organizers out there.
