FEB 15th Breakaway Action

by Gary Rumor Wednesday, Feb. 05, 2003 at 12:01 AM

Announcement of meeting Feb 9 5pm at Luna Sol. To plan Anti War Action for Feb 15th Demonstration and beyond.

Meeting Sunday Feb. 9th 5 PM at Luna Sol to plan anti war action for Feb. 15th anti war demonstration.

Liberal speeches are boreing. We can do better than spend time listening to that. The San Francisco Breakaway action at the Jan. 18th Demonstration was succesful and invigorating (see SF Indy Media). Meet with participant, discuss posibilities for the Feb 15th action. Do we do something here in LA or join forces with the AntiWarAction in San Francisco? Local police reaction, since Democratic Convention Protests. New Mayor, new Police Chief. Recent crackdowns on @ activists in area cities. How to deal with them and realize our desires?

High School and University Anti war erruption. General Strike? Blockades if war starts?

Anti Globalism in relationship to the Anti War effort.

Try some real organizing work for a change...

First, you just announced your meeting publicly for a so-called "breakaway" march that if modeled on the San Francisco one will engage in property destruction (which is fine under the right conditions, and this isn't).

Don't you think that you might have some police infiltration? Smart move.

Second, the idea of a breakaway march is riddled with problems. Even if you target some evil corporate bastards for some window-breaking, what do you think the message will be? You are playing directly into the stereotypes of "anarchists as hooligans." Your breakaway march should properly be titled, Let-Me-Jerk-Myself-Off-To-Some-Machismo-Window-Breaking-Male-Twenty-Something-Probably-White-Middle-Class-I-Want-To-Stand-Out-In-The-Crowd-Fuck-What-Anyone-Else-Thinks-Fuck-Solidarity-Fuck-Real-Organizing-Work-And-Lets-Breakaway-And-Then-Leave-The-Poor-Locals-To-Deal-With-The-Cops-March....oh yes, and lets call everyone liberals who disagree with us, even if they claim they are anarchists.

Why don't you think about actually working with people who have different beliefs systems than yours? Why not demonstrate and argue for a vision of society with those you disagree with? Or, you can just go off and have your temper tantrun "breakaway" march and feel superior, and warm and fuzzy, and that you actually "did" something.

Yes, anti-war speeches are boring, but so is the tired response by the anarchist community to always resort to property destruction because, unfortunately, there are so few talented anarchist community and labor organizers out there.

try taking a look at the links up to sf's actions - sure, lots of common folks got upset, but lots from all over the world were thrilled and envigorated, asking why the INS building wasn't trashed long ago.

The Chronicle jumped on the bandwagon to condemn the 'violence' after having their building defaced. I wrote a letter in response and they actually printed it - everyone I know who had previously been turned off by the rock throwing complimented me on the letter, which reviewed our current dire situation and asked the Chron, what now?

We're moving beyond what waving our signs and shuffling down mainstreet can achieve.

Yes, we must make commercials, and Greenpeace protesters are entering tanks and locking the hatches behind them, and activists in Ireland are pouring blood on airport runways and hammering on planes with tools, and activsts are taking buses to Iraq, and people are sending rice to the White House, and nursing home residents are having anti-war demos, and senators are trying to introduce bills to re-vote, and presidents in Europe are defying the Bush Regime and risking being ever considered 'allies' again - - - and you're worried about anyone throwing a rock through an INS or a Starbucks window???? We all have our own way, and we must all follow what is meaningful to us.

Courage and strength to everyone!

Zero, Zero, Zero

by Bush Admirer Thursday, Feb. 06, 2003 at 1:22 AM

What a great and apt choice of a handle zero, zero, zero. I couldn't have picked a better handle for you.

And I do hope you're right when you say, "Activsts are taking busses to Iraq." Do you need more busses? Can we help with the busses? I sure hope no activist has to miss out on a trip to Iraq just when the bombs are about to fall. Have a great trip. Bon voyage!

But what's this business about Greenpeace and SF protesters? No one cares what they do. They're in same category with Michael Jackson.
