NLG has a law-suit

Dear Friends: I am a civil rights attorney and I work with the National Lawyers Guild. I am trying to contact individuals who were outside the Democratic National Convention at the protests on Monday, August 14, 2000. The police fired rubber bullets and hit people with batons after shutting down the Rage Against the Machine concert. A group of attorneys have a civl rights lawsuit against the Los Angeles Police Department for the way protesters were treated. We are looking for potential plaiintiffs for this litigation which wss filed for civil rights violations, First Amendment violations and excessive force. We are looking for individuals who were near the "protest pit" or public demonstration area on August 14, 2000. As you know, on August 14, 2000, many thousands of participants lawfully gathered in a public demonstration area (a parking lot bordered by Olympic Blvd. and Figueora Street and police barricades) adjacent to Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles. The plaintiffs and the class we seek to represent were peaceful participants, including peaceful protesters, members of the media, delegates, legal observers and others, who were injured or harmed by the police after the LAPD declared an unlawful assembly, then shot people with rubber bullets, projectiles, hit them with batons and otherwise used force against them. Please call me if you were there or know of others who were there that night that had contact with the police as the police moved into the crowd. My e-mail is cablaw@hotmail.com. My phone number is 213-381-3246. My address is Cynthia Anderson-Barker, 3435 Wilshire Blvd, Suite 2900, Los Angeles, Ca 90010
