Dead off again

by Diogenes Saturday, Feb. 01, 2003 at 8:25 AM

Aw, c'mon BA get real - if Rush's advertisers start bailing out from the pressure all the dildoheads in America can huff and puff all they want. No advertisers = no money = new time slot . Perhaps 2 A.M? You don't think his program is aired as a charitable activity do you?

Quite the opposite

by Marc (still the real one?) Saturday, Feb. 01, 2003 at 12:30 PM

The right (Constitution - 1st Amendment) to protest is inherent to our democracy.
Telling someone to "love it or leave it" - what a cop out. If you leave it, you are un-patriotic.
If you stand up and say "I do not agree with what is going on, no one is polling ME for my opinions, the news is more concerned with striding the fence for a grand view of the dribblits of information they are being fed - all for their profits, not for accuracy or journalism. I stand up in protest, BECAUSE I LOVE MY COUNTRY!" - That is patriotic. Standing up for ideals, in the face of criticism, in the overbearing presence of riot-clad police. Decry the policies, not the country, as I say.

Polls are polls. Sometimes they're good, most times they're not. They are samples at best, and you could spend a dissertation on the inherent weaknesses of samples: their sizes, their representation, their make-up, the lack of control groups...

The only real poll in America is the election booth. And take heed, America, I'm not saying the Presidential election. Study your civics. Despite protestations about "popular" votes it is the electorate (our good old Congressmen) which determines the Presidential election. The most intrinsic politics start at home. Your "directly" elected officials. Your state Senators. Your representatives to the House. These are positions which you, the voter, directly choose. Choose wisely, as they often answer to many masters, and not (unfortunately) always to their electorate.

To say that massive protests are ineffective is ludicrous. You would sweep under the rug as vital a part of the American fabric as the civil rights movement. But that made no difference, right? (side note: that changed the tone of America, but ever since, most of America has been sleeping! This country still is not civil, many of our rights are being curtailed, and racism is FAR from being exorcised in our society>)

Sneer all you want. Protest is a vital part of America. The failure of those involved (past, and so far present) is to galvanize that protest into functional tools. You've got to espouse interests vital to humanity, but you need to bring it into the heartland and the suburbs. You need to show up at Timmy's baseball game, at Sally's PTA meetings, at anyplace public where you can advocate issues, while still being respectful of people. Let them leave if they want. Talk to all who will listen. Get them outside of the mindset of the 6 o'clock news. Let them know what the issues are. Let them know where their elected officials stand.

Change takes time. And time can drag inexorably slowly. America had changed, and continues to change. My Grandfather (a recently departed patriot) fought tooth and nail on the Western Front. He chased forces across North Africa. He returned to America to ticker tape parades and a hero's welcome. My father (a tried and true Republican) served in Vietnam. He saw the best pilots get shipped out-of-country (but not home: hello, Air America!). He kept returning with half a squadron. Why? Instead of targeting strategic sites, they were dictated attack angles. It doesn't take a herculean effort on the part of an anti-aircraft gunner to discern that all A-4's & F-4's are diving at 45 degrees. He saw a war of politics, not of ideals. He saw his fellow officers fall ill for decades after being exposed to infoliants our government promised were harmless. He, luckily, returned home. To being spit upon over a war he didn't choose or advocate. He quickly left military service. He instilled in me a fierce independence, a caustic wit, and a skepticism of things said by "wise people in power." Especially when their evidence rests upon the laurels of rhetoric.

So protest! Get out, and do something. Tell as many people as possible what your opinions are on the matter. Let people disagree. But stand up to rhetoric. Ask for substantiation. Don't allow "we thinks" and "we believe" to dictate our foreign policy. Demand "we know" and "here is our evidence." Don't allow the nay-sayers to label you as un-patriotic. You represent America!

Mr.

by Roland Wetzel Sunday, Feb. 02, 2003 at 5:32 PM
rwetzel6@charter.net 1918 Gallaher Ave.

Perpetual truth would be a better statement than your "perpetual war." Many years ago before I started listening to Rush regularly, I had heard that he "stretched the truth," even sometimes just "lied."
I started listening to him and checked out many of the things he was talking about -- especially those that seemed a bit preposterous. He was always right. In fact, I was stunned by some of the things I heard.
Today, I still look for the backup on material that he presents during his three hours here on KMOX -- and I find every bit! Sometimes, I find even more.
It is indeed sad that much of our broadcast and print media is incredibly biased to the left of center. As I write this, I have just spent some time viewing the Columbia disaster coverage on ABC-TV. They could hardly wait this evening to put ordinary citizens on the air making statements linking "still another disaster" to the "probable war in Iraq." One has nothing to do with the other -- but ABC obviously opposes the war, and wants to push viewers in that direction.
Look what Rather said after Bush's State of the Union. Despite a jump in his own network's polls for those who support the President, from about 43% to 67%, Rather still said that a "majority of Americans don't agree with the President."
The problem you folks are having is that you don't know how to deal with truth since you have had the press on your side for so long! Even the Washington Post is now agreeing with Rush on some things!
And your house organ, the NY Times continues to ignore the truth on so many subjects.
Frankly, my wife and I will make every effort to purchase those products and services advertised on his show -- and my guess is that his 20 million-plus listeners will do the same.
Why don't you put your own liberal/socialist on the air and sell time to Ben & Jerry, and other supporters?

98% "truth" 2% lies

by Diogenes Sunday, Feb. 02, 2003 at 10:20 PM

Dear Mr. Wetzel,
You aren't looking hard enough. A good disinfomation agent will tell a vast preponderance of truth in order to slip in that critical 2% of disinfomation. Rush is good with the facts - he distorts the shit out of them and is very good at it. He does not have to do it often. But if you look for it there are recurring items:
Bush is always right - if that position is unsustainable Rush will say something to the effect of - he means well but must be getting bad advice "on this one". The spin is there.

What he will not talk about is every bit as important as what he will. He will never talk about who owns the national debt, who owns the FED (or that it is a privately owned Central Bank). He will never talk about the documented heath effects of Depleted Uranium Munitions or the Hundreds of Thousands of Iraqi CHILDREN who have died as a result of it's use. He will not talk about the tens of thousands of U.S. Gulf War Veterans suffering from Uranium Poisoning. Try Visiting Gulfwarvets.com.

Try getting informed enough from other sources so that you can spot the spin when it comes. It takes a while. It took me about 5 years of listening (and liking Rush) before I accumulated enough knowledge to spot the spin.
Ever notice he will never talk substance on the environment much beyond name calling "Environmental Wackos" or erecting a straw man so he can tear it down. He is very good at it.
Ever notice an intelligent and articulate anti-war consevative get past his call screener? Ain't gonna happen.
I would like to hear him talk about his war record. Anal Cysts (I won't even venture to comment as to what they could have resulted from.)

Rush

by dave michael Monday, Feb. 03, 2003 at 3:15 AM
shag2272@yahoo.com

Why not bring back Mario Cumo - Hes was good for a laugh - Ha ha

Better yet, put on Alec Baldwin, Sean Penn or George Clooney (Our military experts) I'm sure they could generate competition for Rush.

Get a life and better yet get a real job!!!!!!!!!

Gee, that's a good one.

by Diogenes Monday, Feb. 03, 2003 at 8:08 AM

How about Norman Scwarzkopf:

"Chris Matthews' of MSNBC's Hardball hit a few homers, especially when interviewing retired Gen. (Stormin') Norman Schwarzkopf, star of Gulf War I: The Sins Of The Father. He told Matthews flatly that another invasion would be about oil and he "didn't believe for one minute'' that it was about anything else." - Antonia Zebrisias Toronto Star

OR
Ron Paul, (R) TX

Bringing up discredited liberal apparatchiks and actors does not make your case. All it amounts to is: "My Dad can beat up your dad".

I find it amusing that the supporters of death an destruction are so vacant arguments that all they are left with are schoolyard taunts and name calling.

You lose(r).

Get a Life

by Andrew Dagwell Monday, Feb. 03, 2003 at 1:21 PM

Have you ever considered just WHY Rush is so popular? It is because people are sick of the same tired liberal ranting and hysterics they get when they tune to any of the 3 major networks. His numbers speak for themselves. Now....be nice you hippie wannabes with no lives.

Reply to Andrew

by Bush Admirer Monday, Feb. 03, 2003 at 1:39 PM

Bingo Andrew!

That's also the reason for Fox News astounding rise in popularity. Bill O'Reilly is actually more popular than Rush now.

The liberal news media cooked their own goose. A program like Donahue on MSNBC is nothing but drivel from the DNC.org. The DNC also has a squad of propogandists who write newspaper columns. EJ Dionne comes to mind and so do some others including Helen Thomas, Maureen Dowd, Molly Ivins, Jim Hightower, etc. (pea-brains all).

But they pale in comparison to Pacifica Radio and especially Amy Goodman who misnames her show 'Democracy Now." It should be named "Appeasement Now." Here is a link if you'd like some laughs:
http://www.democracynow.org/

Even more pitiful is yet another Pacifica program, misnamed Free Speech Radio News (www.fsrn.org). These ultra left wing brain-dead radicals haven't given an honest news report in their entire history. Like Amy Goodman, they're strictly into leftist propaganda distribution. "Truth" isn't in their vocabulary.

By the way, this is the same group that has managed to give cop killer Wesley Cook air time (Mumia Abu Jamal as this depraved murderer now calls himself).

It's pretty sad, but it is encouraging to see Americans flocking to Fox News where they can get fair and balanced news.
