Pasadena/west side protest of the state of the union

by Jim Ingalls (from listserve) Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003 at 7:54 AM

Friends, Critical events are unfolding quickly, as per today's headlines. The State of the Union address on Tuesday is an all-important watershed moment in our history as a nation and world... today's LA Times makes it clear that the possibility of a nuclear war being unleashed soon is very real.

We must do everything we can to show that this will not be allowed to happen.

Gatherings are being planned for Tuesday, January 28, 2003.

In the Pasadena area, ALL are called and urged to gather at:

All Saints Church

132 N. Euclid Ave

Pasadena

5:30 pm

There will be a viewing of the address, critique and meeting to plan

our next steps to stave off the war. Many communities, some not known

to each other or separated for years, are being called together on

this occasion. Please join us.

Keep your eyes on http://icujp.org/home.shtml for late announcements

on regional events that will be occurring around Southern California.

If you know of any actions planned, please send the info to:

Turn the President's State of the Union Address into local press

coverage of opposition to his policies.

Take action in your community to challenge the Bush administration's

policies of preemptive attacks and military hegemony.  Be a part of

the coordinated statewide actions that will get widespread media

coverage.  Join us as we call on our national leaders for a

fundamental change in foreign policy.

The press will be actively looking for the local response to the

President's speech in your community.  An organized action outside

the office of your member of Congress is virtually guaranteed press

coverage and is an excellent opportunity not only to  voice

opposition to Bush's policies, but also to articulate an alternative

that will promote genuine security.

Local Actions - There will be simultaneous actions at the district

offices of as many of California's members of Congress as possible.

These actions will applaud the local Representatives for opposing the

war resolution or critique the local Representative for his or her

support of the war resolution.  We will urge all Representatives to

challenge the President's foreign policy and to promote a

fundamentally different policy.

California Peace Action will provide free materials, such as placards

and literature, as well as any media or logistical support that you

may need.

Put the pressure on Congress - The day following the President's

address will be a Statewide Call-in Day.  Join thousands of

California Peace Action members and hundreds of organizations across

the state in sending Congress a simple message: we need a fundamental

change in foreign policy.  We will provide call-in slips
