Great book, but this art show's critique of Hollywood is more fun and less academic --lots of pissed off and wacky ironic art from a diverse group of artists - Ernesto Torres, Lisa Freedom, and Frank Sosa's 8yr old kid.

Drop by and pick up some lots of free anti-Hollywood stickers (original designs for the paintings in the show) and help in the local campaign to DESTROY HOLLYWOOD!! (or at least subvert it)

The film center supports independent filmmaking - they fix old movie cameras and projectors, provide low cost
filmmaking classed to local adults and FREE filmmaking classed to Echo Park local kids! They also show
underground films, many of which are activist - oriented. It's an amazing place and we all should support it - it's volunteer run and non profit and right next to 33 1/3 Books (great radical bookshop) and Labor Fruit ( all hand made one of a kind clothing and jewelry - former Luna Sol people).

How true! Hollywood is as important as cnn, fox news, mainsteam tv, etc in the propoganda brainwashing of amerika. If "celebrities" want to speak out, GREAT! Everyone should. But why aren't they out there with the people? Oh ya, hold a confrence in beverly hills, wear the pradas and the diamond earings and act like you care about the rest of the world. Oh, and don't forget to mention "god" a lot. Blah!

I think Bush Admirer is just jealous because celebs tend to be kinda liberal. The right wingers do have Bo Derek and Drew Carey in their camp, though. Whoopee.

I love it when right wingers criticize celebs for speaking out about liberal or progressive issues. The hypocrisy. Celebs have risen to the top of the pay scale in a fiercly cut throat and competetive biz. They are now millionaires - which right wingers worship. They got there competetively - another value touted by right wingers. But oh how they howl if the celeb actually retains some humanity and integrity. God forbid they should come out of the process actually caring about other people. Why don't you like the ground these celebs walk on like the corporate millionaires you worship, o right wing?
