R.A.C.U.N Community Defense Program
Revolutionary . Active . Communities . Uprising . in . Numbers (Long Beach / Los Angeles Chapter)

The purpose of the RACUN Community Defense Program is to establish a revolutionary form of self-defense within the community. By establishing various operations throughout the community, we can develop a sense of community control with the discplinary independence, and self-suffiecancy of direct action aimed towards community empowerment. We hope the fullest measure of community defense can prevail so our communities can eventually declair themseleves independent as autonomous as "liberated zones" from the state.

GOALS for RACUN Community Defense Program (Long Beach / Los Angeles chapter):

Establishing a program with the capacity to deploy multiple Cop Watch and Zone Defense units within every division of the city, particulary but not limited to the North, East, South and West divisions of Long Beach, 7 days a week.

Have multiple Cop Watch and Zone Defense units in the streets simultaneously to cover more ground.

Raise enough funds to obtain equipment such as video cameras, radio scanners, walky-talkies, and disposable cameras for each unit.

Establish self-defense workshops, and educational forums to educate and train others in a diverse array of self-defense tactics and strategies.

Initiate the following operations throughout the community:

Cop Watch:

Cop Watch is a program where people patrol the streets with video cameras ready to document police activity whenever it occurs. The purpose for this is to document police every time they make a stop. If police begin to harass or brutalize civilians, it is caught on film. Cop Watch also sees to notify civilians of their rights to educate them on the brutality and injustice of this system, and how to deal with such situations in the future.

Zone Defense:

Zone Defense Units are an advancement of Cop Watch. Instead of waiting after police violate an individuals rights to take action, zone defense sees to prevent this before it happens. Defense Units are mostly deployed in specific neighborhoods experiancing heavy police repression. These units often remain idle within these areas on "tactical alert", acting as a defensive gaurd within the designated zones in the community. Every time police breech designated defense zones, they are immediately documented and followed. Any type of police activity is immediately confronted and documented from an observable distance. Zone Defense Units are usually deployed, but not limited to, specific, centralized areas where police repression is at it's worst. Zone Defense units also have local contact numbers for their area for people to call if/when they see or experiance police activity.

Tactical Defense Training:

We hope to provide information about self defense to the community which is not otherwise readily available. Our effort is focused towards a diverse array of self defense tactics, such as armed and unarmed self defense. Our efforts also focus on becoming familiar with, learning and studying self defense strategies and tactics on all other levels.

POLICE TERROR, CRIMINALIZATION, AND REPRESSION OF OUR COMMUNITIES MUST STOP NOW!
We've tried marching, protesting, lobbying, talking to the ministers, city councils, and congress until we were blue in the face. Police terror has not gone away. The only way we can effectively stand up to the continuous brutality, racism, murder and repression of our lives by this system is to establish a revolutionary form of self defense within the community. We must train, and become active in the strategy of self defense as we cannot rely on today's current system to protect us from it's own brutality, murder and corruption. Our so-called "leaders" and "representatives" keep talking about fighting the war on "terrorism", when our communities, particularly those of color, are countless victims of police terror every single day.

The R.A.C.U.N Community Defense Program seeks to organize self-defense units (such as Cop Watch and Zone Defense Units) within our neighborhoods to put an end to the ongoing brutality, harassment, criminalization, murder, and repression of our communities. As the anti-war movement continues to grow in opposition to war on Iraq, we must not forget to address the war that is being waged right here on our very streets by this unjust system. Police terror has been inflicted on our communities too long. These are our communities, and we are going to take them back!
