Scott Ritter to Speak in L.A. Prior to Release of U.N. Iraq Weapons Inspection Report

Just one day before the release of the U.N. Weapons Inspection Report from Iraq, Scott Ritter, former Chief U.N. Weapons Inspector, will address an L.A. audience at a conference titled "Beyond the Battlefield: The Real Costs of War" on December 7, 2002 at 10:30 am.

Just one day before the release of the U.N. Weapons Inspection Report from Iraq, Scott Ritter, the former Chief U.N. Weapons Inspector who came to national attention recently for his outspoken comments opposing war with Iraq, will speak to attendees in Los Angeles at a conference organized by Southern California Americans for Democratic Action titled "Beyond the Battlefield: The Real Costs of War." The event will be held at the Westwood United Methodist Church, located at 10497 Wilshire Blvd. (at Warner) on December 7, 2002 at 10:30 am.

"The truth of the matter is that Iraq today is not a threat to its neighbours and is not acting in a manner which threatens anyone outside of its own borders," states Ritter. "When speaking of international law as set forth by the United Nations Charter it is impossible to come up with any scenario today that would justify military action against Iraq based upon its current behaviour. ..it's not too late to send a message that this is not a war that we will stand for."

Leading economist James Kenneth Galbraith, along with Speaker Emeritus of the CA Assembly; Antonio Villaraigosa; L.A. Councilmember Eric Garcetti; columnist Arianna Huffington; Author Bruce Jansen; former President of the Korean American Bar Association, Angela Oh; Actor and Human Rights Activist Mike Farrell and other community leaders will explore the impact that war on Iraq would have on our safety, the economy, civil liberties, social programs, and international relations.
