The SHORTWAVE REPORT 11/22/02 ¡Listen Globally!

by Dan Roberts Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002 at 12:42 AM
outfarpress@saber.net 707 459-1760 PO Box 1162 Willits CA 95490

A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quick download (3.3MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. Netherlands, China, Germany, Spain, Russia, and Cuba.

Dear Radio Friend,

The latest Shortwave Report (November 22) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality 13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:05) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.

This program will be aired at 7pm PST this Friday evening at KZYX/Z Philo CA and you might be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org/

There are several other streams that work better- http://members.cruzio.com/~frsc/ Freak Radio Santa Cruz (96.3fm) streams this program on Friday at 5:35pm (PST) and on Monday at 9amPST.

Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.rinku.zaq.ne.jp/bkaec205/

And the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio

This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, China Radio International, Radio Deutsche Welle, Spanish National Radio, the Voice of Russia, and Radio Havana Cuba.

From Netherlands- The bomb blast that killed 180 in Bali may be linked to former President Suharto, rather than Al-Qaeda. In Peru, a paramilitary leader has been arrested for massacres, while working under former President Fujimori.

From China- Former Peruvian Pres Fujimori, who has been hiding in Japan, says he’d like to return and become President again. No. and So. Korea have agreed to conduct a joint survey to reconnect inter-Korean railways and roads. Palestinian leader Arafat is happy about Israel’s newly elected Labor Party leader, who wants to create peace with the Palestinians.

From Germany- Press reviews on the oil spill off Spain’s coast and the NATO summit in Prague.

From Spain- In Venezvuala, protests and fighting continued by those wanting to oust President Chavez. Argentina’s Presidential election is being delayed, while the economy stumbles under IMF imposed conditions.

From Russia- 30 US troops died Monday in Afghanistan, the highest one day death toll for the allied forces so far. Then a commentary on the evolution of the CIA, which is currently turning it’s focus on US citizens and domestic affairs.

From Cuba- UN Sec General Kofi Anan says that Iraq firing at US/ British warplanes is not a trigger for a US attack, and Chief Weapons Inspector Blix says hawks in Washington are conducting a smear campaign against him. The Canadian Paliament has called for the release of US political prisoner Leonard Peltier. A strange aspect of the US Homeland Security Act protects pharmaceutical companies from lawsuits over the side-effects of vaccines.

I just put up on the web a 59 minute long speech on the US Patriot Act given by Judith Volkart of the No California ACLU board. It is extremely informative and up to date. It is free to rebroadcast upon notification. CDs are available. Check it out at- http://www.radio4all.net/proginfo.php?id=5857

I was recently interviewed on a radio program called RISE- the topic was "The End Of The Age Of Oil," talking about living and producing radio off-the-electrical-grid. Kellia Ramares produces the show, which may be found at- http://www.radio4all.net/proginfo.php?id=5835

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
