first meeting of anarchist radio collective - l.a. 1pm - 4pm sunday, november 24th '02 1405 Scott Ave., Echo Park.

from Sunset go north on Portia or Echo Park, turn right on Scott Ave. Last house on the left before Elysian Park. from Bus #2, #4, get off at Portia, walk up the hill turn right on Scott Ave. Last house on the left before Elysian Park.

want a whole series of weekly or even daily radio interviews with the USA's many political prisioners? want to advocate anti-authoritarian structures and processes for local radio stations? want to establish joint shows across radio station borders by collaborating with Killradio, KXLU's political show - Static, MaximumRocknRoll Radio, pirate radio, etc.? want to work with the National Pacifica Archives to produce programs on the history of the Black Block or Ricardo Flores Magon or Emma Goldman or Voltairine DeCleyre or Osugi Sakae or Lorenzo Komboa Ervin....? want a regular political radio show called "Cal Trans-gression" during those AM Cal Trans orange van ride hours, since they do listen to the radio EVERY MORNING? want to hear radio shows without "hosts" and "executive producers"? want to hear anarchopunk, drum circles, Wobbly chants, work songs, experimental sounds, ballads of Sacco and Vanzetti? want to run a radio station without a "general manager", without a "programming director"?

the goal of this meeting is to begin to form an organization of anarchists that will develop, advocate, and produce audio programming of importance to anarchists, for broadcast by various local radio stations (KPFK, KXLU, etc., pirate radio stations, killradio, etc....)

former KPFK (90.7 fm) interim general manager Steven Starr called for the formation of radio collectives early this year (2002). in response, radio collectives have been forming in various communities in hopes of participating more meaningfully in decision making at KPFK. some of these collectives have become well - known in the KPFK community: the Youth Collective, the West South Asian / North African Collective, the Latino/Latina Collective, the Asian Pacific Islander Collective, the African Collective, etc.

various voices around KPFK have been expressing the desire to hear more anarchist issues and perspectives on KPFK. at the same time, radio activists should pursue opportunities beyond any one radio station. my hope is that we can, over the course of a few regular meetings, form the general outlines of an organization, PART of which will be an 'official' KPFK 'collective'.

hopefully we will soon establish working relations with the anarchists already at work within the radio stations and with the other collectives. hopefully some of us can begin committing a half a day a week to go to the stations and work with us.

many people have expressed interest in participating. the more the merrier. please help spread the word to all anarchists: 1pm - 4pm sunday, november 24th '02 1405 Scott Ave., Echo Park.
